hey How are the Peep sight systems for your SKS? i was thinking about getting one for mine, but i want the one that mounts on the side of the recever, hows yours work out for you? ive heard mixed feelings.
@JDK1981 The peep scope? It's alright. It isn't a particularly complex thing. The mount is a complete aftermarket rear cover with a hollow mount so you can use the irons by looking under the scope. However given the nature of the SKS rear cover it does not hold a zero at all, so it really is only good for a peep scope and not much for accuracy. It's a handy thing though, I use it for checking round placement when firing outside a range that I could otherwise easily see target impact.
@LeopardGeckoExpert By whom, the media? An SKS is not an assault rifle. If it was, then it would be select fire, that's what defines a true assault rifle. The SKS is just a semi automatic carbine with a ten round, stripper clip fed, fixed magazine. Not even the State of California considers it to be an assault rifle.
@LeopardGeckoExpert I don't know what to tell you. Google the definition of "assault rifle," if you don't want to take my word for it. Look it up on wikipedia, and check the articles' sources out for yourself if you don't believe what we tell you.
What would I consider it? It's a semi-auto carbine firing an intermediate-strength rifle round. Putting it in the same catagory as the Kalashnikov or M16 (true assault rifles) misses the important differences between the SKS and those rifles.
robertdihno, I don't get it. What's so off about an SKS with a scope? There are many different types of scope mods for the SKS. There was even a model of SKS that came factory with a scope with intent of being used as a sniper rifle. And that model did serve. I believe it was either China or Russia that used it.
I understand, in that case that is an excellent video! I love any vid that has to do with an SKS! So how do you like the Tiger ammo? I've never had the chance to try any. I've been using Brown Bear and I think its great for the money but I see Tiger can be had a bit cheaper.
are you shooting surplus russian ammo like wolf brand. or steel case instead of brass. thats your problem. a good clean with hopps solvent will take care of cosmoline. either your feed ramp is shit or you got a worn out sks.
Did you get all the cosmo off before you shot it? That will definetaly not help you in the jamming department. The gas valves work fine so long as they are kept clean and free of obstruction.
Dude SKS's in Maryland are going up in price like crazy. Are they in your state? I bought a nice Yugo in like Feb this year for like $275. Ive been in search of a Romanian one and it was like fully intact with the cleaning rod and all but it was $499. They said their in such high demand and with all thats going on becoming rare. is there any truth to that? It killed me to buy it but I did! LOL I want one! Love them!
dude u gotta go to texas for guns man u can buy a new SKS for about 200$ with bayonet cleaning rod. but mines a russain. and i got a ak-101 i think for about 250$ at a pawn shop and 8mm mauser for 100$ and mosin nagant for 80$
Hell I may move to Texas. But by the time I drive there, pay for gas and hotel and food it might still come out to the $499. LOL I put it on layaway but after I pick it up in 2 weeks Ill have my Yugo, A romanian, my mossberg, my little bersa 9mm, and my toy my Gsg 5! LOL! Its become an obsession for me.
my stock was broekn on my SKS so i ended up using a carbon fiber one its good but i wish the original stock was never broekn but things happen yes i could have just got one off EBAY but i figure at the time i would do a update
As stated in the comments on the side there, the scope is rear mounted and used for spotting purposes only. The mounts are tall rings with hollow bases to allow me to use the iron sights properly. It doesn't need to keep a zero, because it isn't used to aim the rifle.
@crazyace90 Because the SKS isnt a long range rifle. You "COULD" use it but after a couple rounds the barrel heats up and affects accuracy. This is mainly an infantry rifle, nothing more. It was made for mid to long range combat. If you want to shoot extreme distances, your better off getting a bolt action that can do the job right!
Not at all, actually. Because the rear cover floats and moves you can't keep a good zero on the scope. I use it mostly for spotting purposes and aim with the iron sights by looking through the (hollow) scope mount.
Thanks man. It is all matching stamps and serial numbers, and I plan to keep it that way. A good, clean Yugo SKS is getting tough to find these days and I'm all about the proper preservation of rifles like this. =)
I have a Yugo SKS, but couldn't tell you how old it is, its in really good shape, it has the grenade launcher adapter barrell and sights, a nice bayonet and shoots great!!!
Great no nonsense video...i too have always enjoyed watching the action on the SKS. That massive chunk of stainless slamming back and forth is beautiful. BTW- if you have a yugo, and you want 20rd mags, the tapco 20rd can be installed on a yugo without any modification. I'll post a link above.
The SKS in this video is a Yugo model, so yes I have one. XD
I appreciate the link and stuff but I think I'll leave mine unmodified. There's just something nice about an all original 50+ year old operational rifle.
No it's not the chinese version of an AK-47. The SKS and AK-47 are two totally different rifles. The only simalarity is that they shoot the 7.62x39 round, whereas the Mosin Nagant shoots the 7.62x54R Round. The (R) meaning "rimmed cartridge"
I've found it hasn't been terribly precise outside 100 yards. Though I haven't had a scope worth zeroing on it yet either. I bet with some work and a stable scope mount I could go a bit further with it.
It is loaded from the top, with the bolt open. You have to feed the ammunition in by hand. The caliber is 7.62x49mm. If you look just behind my left hand you can see a dark colored metal triangle. It is also visible toward the end of the video. That is where the cartridges are contained, after loading. That piece can be flipped open for speedy unloading to clear a jam, but I've never had to do it because the rifle never jams. :D
also u can remove that and get magazines for them too. we just picked up 2 sks rifles yesterday and went back to the gun show and got some mags for em. they work well if you know how to install them haha
Yes, you can modify them to accept magazines as well. I choose not to, as the Yugo rifles are getting harder to find and I'd rather keep mine unmodified. Personal preference.
If you look closely at it, the forward end of the scope sits probably 1/2 an inch rearward of the end of the bolt in the open position. It is well clear, and you get used to loading with it on.
as soon as i saw the significant amount of dislikes, I searched up another video...
