Let's estimate he has 250,000 fans worldwide who would like his autograph. He is an old man who has deserved some rest at least, and he cannot respond to maybe more than 50 letters a day, when he has no other work to do. Do some a-hole people think any other megastar could do any better? Like Paul said, Ringo's only fault is his honesty.
About some fans I would like to know, are they evil or are they just stupid?
This is kind of a disappointment. I was planning on writing to Mr. Starr; Igoogled his address, and found this. I was under the impression that he still dutifully replied to all of his mail. I can't blame him for stopping, but it's still sad.

I find it sad to read all the disparaging comments made about Ringo's announcement. He says 'peace and love' to let us know he is telling us this with a good heart. It is very likely he ~does~ have a lot of fan mail - he has had a loyal following for decades. Also, these 'announcements' of his are what he posts on his own website to keep in touch with his fans - of all the ex-Beatles he is probably the one who has stayed closest to us. He ~is~ 68 after all - let the guy retire from signing!
I don't need an autograph from you to prove to me that you will always be the coolest Beatle. I don't know if you'll read this, but just wanted to attempt to make a connection that transcends anything you could sell on Ebay. Thank you for all the great moments that I treasure that my parents didn't even appreciate. XOX
