  • very wonderfully played, but still needs much work dynamically.

  • Lindíssimo. Obrigado

  • ...DULCEMENTE ...MARAVILLOSA...

  • Great music! I did not know that "All by myself" is the interpretation of Rachmaninov piano concerto!

  • LOVELY . CHARMING . BRILLIANT .

  • What delicate touch! She gently evokes the melancholic, female character of the melody.

  • I love her simple dress and make up , if any. She is pure , like a limpid spring of music .

  • Excelent i brillant!!! Gran pianista i gran compositor rus, música iirrepetible i inagualable..

  • EXCELENTE !!!!!!!SOMBRAS Y ANGUSTIA EN EL PRIMER MOVIMIENTO,!!!!!!!

  • I guess they're plucking their strings in this interpretation as well.. In the Graffman/bernstein, you mainly hear the plucking, not the clarinet

  • I just realized what it is. The CD I have (favorite performance of piano concerto 2) of Graffman/Bernstein/NY Philharmonic, instead of the clarinet at 2:25-3:00, they have the violins plucking their strings. I highly recommend this cd which has the Paganini rhapsody as well

  • like the clarinet at 2:25-3:00

  • Thanks. I'm just saying I've heard this piano concerto from many different orchestras/pianists, and the woodwinds on this seem too loud and drown out the piano almost.

  • it's beautiful...

  • Ah.. such a sensuous passionate player.

  • Danke für die wunderbare Musik. Dank auch an ARTE

  • Is it just me or does it seem like the woodwinds are stealing the show, so to speak, instead of complementing the piano. I keep hearing that loud clarinet when I'm trying to focus on the piano.

  • @adimperial It is meant to be like that. The role of the piano is not merely the role of a soloist, but it switches from playing the melodical line to accompaniment of the orchestra. That is Rachmaninoff's incredible quality as a composer. The interaction between the piano and the orchestra makes his concertos very interesting.

  • Such a gifted pianist ~

  • in my opinion, this is the most beautiful music the human race has ever produced...

    but that's just my opinion.

Merci d'avance !

  • This is my breakfast this morning.

  • ESCUCHANDO A HELEN GRIMAUD ESTOY EN EL PARAISO.

  • is this from a movie? it sounds awfully familiar

  • @SKchonji The popular song "All By Myself" composed and made famous by Eric Carmen in the 70s was based loosely on this movement. The song was recorded and again made famous recently by Celine Dion.

  • @SKchonji the truman show, towards the end

  • @SKchonji I don't think so... this masterpiece was written in 1899...

  • @Karingi19 so? it could still be from a movie. Beethoven's 5th and 9th are written much later and yet they're still in movies :P what's your point?

  • @SKchonji It's used in the movie Center Stage, it's the ballet at the end.

  • @Karingi19 sorry, not much later, but you get my point,

  • Beyond words ...

This is perfect in every aspect.

    Speechless.

  • this music alleviates mankind upon his misery and pain to a level of pure blessedness

  • it simply rapes my spirit

  • Yea, tears! Just too wonderful!!

  • This is a remarkably beautiful movement but intensely longing and sorrowful. It is almost painful to listen to.

  • What orchestra is it? What is the name of the clarinet player? Anybody know?

  • there are no adequate words to describe how beautiful this piece played out. The strings and the piano absolutely blend together flawlessly. I agree with ahonda55. Right around 10:00, the music peaked with such an avalanche of emotion yet Grimaud performed with just the perfect restraint. unlike so many other artists displaying with over the top showmanship, she simply ties her hair back, no flashy outfit, definitely refreshing to see Grimaud with such pristine and angelic talent.

  • @diamondnanjing

I wish i can tell her

"don't you know what did you do to me?"

  • My heart aches with joy.

  • Is she Chiara Tonelli at 8:15?? if anyone know

  • i love this girl, she is is allways playing from inside.

    Priceless.

  • Helene, wuold you like to marry me?

  • My tear hangs there all the time

    but falls at 10:06

  • such a beautiful transition from 8:20

  • @bahn3369

hahahaha, dear i was just watching this part again and again and again,

from 08:17 to 08:30 and repeat it

  • Haha...anyone noticed the startrek badge on the clarinet player at 5:12? Nice detail:)

  • How fast her fingers move 7:30 such a beautiful performance overall!

  • Shivers, tears and chills up the spine... divine!

  • This Rach 2 has a talismanic fascination for me: it manages to be more than the sum of its parts. And I feel Abbado works a special magic with his exceptionally well-tutored and rehearsed Lucerne Festival Orchestra to give truly delicate and sensitive interpretation of the orchestral score and La Grimaud giving an equally imaginative and expressive reading of this landmark work from a difficult period in the composer's life.

  • EH! RACHMANINOV STOLE CELINE DION

  • She is breathing music

  • This is just the best love story i´ve ever heard.

  • all by myself...

  • @Superdrale

YES i know what you feel

  • What a truly magnificent work. I greatly love the incredible Russian composers -

especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. Their piano concertos are just so romantic! But oh so difficult to perform. Rach 2 is a great favourite but I also like very much 1 and 3. as well! Helene Grimaud played with much sympathy and empathy for the concerto. A great performance!

  • Both her playing and the astonishingly sensitive and respinsive Lucerne Festival orchestra are sublime. It might well not be how Rachmaninov would have played it - but I'd like to think he'd agree it is superlative. Almost better, in its own way.

Scherziamo??

Poi De gustibus..

  • è meravigliosa questa interpretazioni! complimenti a tutti!! :)

  • MAESTOSO!!

  • MAESTOSO!! W RACH.....

  • All by myself, brief encounter.. I had this played at the service of my dear partner ... miss you babe xxxx

  • I love the tempo in the opening for the piano.real nice and slow.

  • Magnifico!

  • charming

  • BRAVO !!!!

  • Bring a tear to my eye every time I hear this piece.

  • @finnboy67

Me too, i have been like you for many years

  • @finnboy67 Several tears in mine ;)
