Ah I think I get it. Ed gave up his arm and leg again and his place in his original world so that Al could have his body and life back. Both know that the other is missing (al doesn't know about the gate), there for are seeking each other again. However Alchemy does not exist in the opposite universe (Basically our world), so Ed will have to find a way with Technology or Al with Alchemy. Obviously the movie will explain the rest. But I think that's what the ending plot is. I dunno, wild guess.

Well, I know I say this too much, but for ppl who don't know. This episode was a plot set up for the movie to end the series. "Conquer of Shamballa" is the name of the movie. Al with is full body is going to be in it. Mustang with is eye patch is going to be in it, Wrath,Gluttony, and Envy are in the movie too. Hitler is going to be in it,(no joke). Needless to say, the movie raps up everything after this episode, then Brotherhood is a reboot series.

@XxSimsRulexX I saw Brotherhood,I wasn't really into it. I see that it is a reboot. But this isn't even the ending. I'm pretty sure the movie after this ends the series. That's why there are homunculus that are still alive. In the movie, Envy was in that dragon form and Wrath had automail. And Ed was in Germany with nazis and stuff. I watched the movie mid way through the series, but I shouldn't have because it was confusing, but now that I watched this episode I can understand.

But yeah, the first time I watched this series, after I finished this episode (and was in soft hysterics) I immediately watched Conqueror of Shamballa. I liked the end of that, but still like brotherhood better. Although, in the movie, it pissed me off that the alternate Hughes was a nazi :3

It would just be a fairy tale ending if it was the manga/brotherhood (not that I didn't like it) but, first they screw up, and things would just go down from there, but not THAT bad, they still have good moments. It's what keeps the original series REAL.

Also, I want to add that I did see the movie and as an EdWin fan I HATE that one's bittersweet ending. Despite the fact the Kids OAV implies Ed and Amestris' Winry SOMEHOW got back together and she built him a new automail in our world. In fact I think the EdWin ending maybe the reason some fans hate this version of FMA so much.

Despite the Fruity's insisting that Brotherhood is better, I love both animes just the same and for completely different reasons. This 1 had better characterization because it covered early parts of the manga better so you got to really know the characters. Music is better too. I also feel I probably wouldn't have appreciated the manga/Brotherhood's ending had I not seen this version first. Still of the 2 Edward Elrics, this is the one I want to hug and tell him "It will be OK". Ya I'm a girl.

Artistically, this show kicks the living hell out of Brotherhood. FMA1 did such an amazing job crafting an emotional and believable quest. It was much, MUCH subtler in its handling of the excellent themes raised in Arakawa's manga, and brought its disparate threads to a close in a way that left me feeling both fulfilled and saddened.

To me, FMA1 will always be a much truer representation of equivalent exchange. Brotherhood was too flippant with its Deus Ex Machina happy ending.
