@CoolHacks4Free It's not about wether or not the dog can survive a half hour outside attached to a pole. Leaving your dog outside is dumb because somebody can easily come along untie the thing and then take off... which certainly can be a traumatic thing for the dog but for the stupid owner too.

Here's what I do... Get a bright colored harness and bring the dog in with you as a service dog.

I've only once seen this. I was at work and a woman came in after tying her puppy up. I gave her a dirty look, left her at the register, untied the dog, and brought him into the building. I held his leash, told him to sit, then took the woman's order. After she finished ordering, she said "So can I have my dog back now?" I said "Yes; but from now on, leave him home." She gave me a dirty look and asked to see a manager. I smiled, pointed at my name tag, and said "You're speaking to her."

ACTUALLY, I know a lot about dogs... I have three of my own. It is not safe to tie a dog to a pole/post next to a busy road especially. If you are going to have to go places where you cannot bring your dog inside, then it is safer for the dog to stay at home. Someone could steal the dog, someone could accidentally hit the dog while parking, other people could approach your dog and scare him or her. If you are walking your dog, then you should bring a drink with you from home.
