Poor Tenor had to hit a Soprano note (Eb5). It prolly would have made more sense to have to Split the Sopranos into 1st and 2nds and have the Tenors do a C5 and the Altos do the Eb5 instead of that G#5...too high for Alto.

@highnote32 Basically, those altos are sopranos, and very good ones too! Many sopranos can't hit G#5 even! Maybe some of the altos (the true altos lol) sang with the tenors or kept quiet, and some of the sopranos sang alto, and some of the tenors sang silently (through a smile)... oh well... some choirs are blessed with people with very high ranges

@okebaram Cool, what is your range? I am a Tenor and I am NOT sure about my exact vocal range. I sing gospel and church music in a small town which I hate so much. Once I move to a larger city in a couple years or so I plan on getting training to help me expand better. I sing between the range of C3 to C5 and have and ahve a complicated falsetto range.

@highnote32 my range sucks big time, there needs to be a new name for my voice type e.g. 2nd baritone! After practicing a lot to expand my range, I can sing F4s and sometimes G4s but it takes a lot of effort. My reliable singing range is Eb3 to Eb4. I can go as low as C2 before it becomes fry, but not comfortably and not with my best tone, but I'll sing bass if necessary. And I can actually belt higher than C5, due to LOTS of practice. @okebaram It seem odd for a man to be told that he sings better in his falsetto voice than his natural chest voice. Not particularily for high notes but overall. With my natural chest voice, I am having trouble finding a placement.

@highnote32 Eb5 is very impressive (I can actually belt that high too!). Many music teachers are orthodox and have rules that are sometimes small-minded or tailored more to an orthodox/classical style. You must have a low "voice-ceiling": around E4/E5 (it repeats). A high "ceiling" will be around C5/C6 (or higher), and that's an advantage. People with low "ceilings" will find it harder to sing low but there are other factors that affect ability to sing low. I too have a low voice ceiling...

When you cross your "ceiling", which you do have enough range to do, your placement/tone shifts. All you need is some practice in order to remove that edgy tone & improve your range! Your passaggio voice is that region when you tone changes @ E4. As a male, u also have another "cap" at G4. Improving your mix = learning to spread-out, soften, brighten, focus or alter your tone up there in such a way that your crossover to upper range is smoother & your edginess is gone + you are more flexible...

This will also expand your range & control. All singers already mix, it's just a matter of improving. Theres 2 other types of mix voice. 1 is a saturated, strong head voice that pops into a deep voice, but I'm only talking about ur full aka chest voice. To find the placement faster: in private practice going from from low to high to low...& so on without getting louder to go high or reducing your volume to hit the lows.

My whistle is complicated and it took years of practicing to have one. I think I can for sure do a sustained C6 in whistle. But on good whistle days, I can go much higher, sometimes even into a few notes in the 7th octave! I know for sure though that you can expand your range. In fact, I want to be a voice coach

@okebaram Cool, My lowest note roughly is a B2 and sometimes Bb2. Low notes have always been a struggle 4 me. My highest belted note is Eb5. Right now, I am trying to figure out my mixed/passagio voice....I'm NOT sure where it is supposed to start. I sing Tenor in all 3 choruses I sing in. Music teachers say I get edgy when I get to E4 and upwards so they ask me to sing it in a weak, detached and boring falsetto which I, personally, want to get away from.

I'm a lousy baritone, but God knows that when I have my own singing group, I would take my sopranos into C6s and above, my altos into 1st soprano and my tenors into soprano!
