  • Did Blaire die in the explosion?

  • 2:11 A visual that has been stuck in my head for 28 years: stretched face being drug across the floor! IS THIS THE GREATEST HORROR FLICK EVER MADE???

  • look this is the ending: look at childs ears when he is drinking: you see that there is something wrong with his head: childs is...the thing...

    creepy ending..makes me depressive :(

  • lol best end of horror movie ever

  • thanx There are some things in the movie I have never seen (i live in the UK I was 16 when I saw this) lots of footage was missing.

  • @Tarenaccount where did you find this out :S

  • noooooooooo the black guy wondered off by himself stupid fool! :(

  • good movie and first movie ive seen where the black guy doesnt die

  • @32Roy32 Wouldn't really say he doesn't die. They're going to freeze either way.

  • Does anyone else feel a need for a sequel???

  • @MrChamp51 theyre making a prequel about the norweigan camp comes out nxt year ish

  • they dont even show Nauls die

  • @kjs91 I agree with mew2you the dead space movie is actually quite good :)

  • So does anyone know what is really happening at the end? Does MacReady laugh a bit because he poisons Childs (who is the thing), or does he plan to get the thing dunk by passing the bottle back and forth since MacReady can handle more booze being an adict and all, then kill Childs (the thing) when he is intoxicated? It sounds like Childs is the thing because he is making obviously stupid statements about temperature and questions their survival when it is clear the whole point was no one lives

  • @MrStillmans

Drinking from the same bottle as the thing would get you assimilated.

  • @insidious Maybe the thing was going by 1982 rules and the alcohol killed it. You know pre-AIDS rules. Like back in I think part 8 when Windows wipes the scalpel onto his pants leg between him and another guy. As a matter of fact... THEY ALL GOT CUT WITH THAT DIRTY SCALPEL!!!!! That's when almost everybody got assimilated, or at least they should have.

  • @partysince96

Well, to be fair I was thinking exactly the same thing during that part.

I always manage to find a way to take the fun out of these things. :o

  • @kjs91 That would be Dead Space the animated version

  • Thank you so much for uploading. This was my first time watching this, and it already jumps up to one of my favourite horror movies. Cheers.

  • 1st time seeing this film its certified raw!!!

  • If it wandered off too far it wouldn't be found by the rescue team.

  • I hope they make the new film "The Thing" not the fan made trailer well simular to the game becuase the game on any consol was "The Thing II" it sets the story line straight. I just hope a in the Carpenter family or friends could make a another film version of the game the thing that would be cool.

  • Jesus there's that fat guy's head, arm and the chest still emerged to the thing also looks like the guy's head made another mouth with big teeth and 2 extra alien arms.

    KILL IT MC CREED!

  • Looking forward to the prequel, it'll tell the story from the Norweigens side..on how they found the ship and its consequences...should be a good one..2011

  • i wonder what ever happened to nauls

  • It's what the Norwegian's did to their research outpost they burn it down!

  • decent movie but lite too wierd for me :/ still not too shabby :)

  • Part 2

During the power out in Fucas's lab, Palmer went up to Macredy's shack and burned his cloths to frame him, tried to kill Fucas but he burned himself to stop it, then infected Norris. And we all know the rest, Norris had a heart attack and bit off Copper's hands, Palmer got found out and tried to escape, and Blair cut the power and was killed by Mac.

What do you think of my theory? Please reply.

  • @ScarPredator040365 makes sense but I always thought that McReady was the thing and that, there were more than one of them, actually. At the end I thought that both Mcready and Childs were infected.

  • @noirgangrel I said there was more then one, Palmer, Norris, and Blair. But no, McReady was never infected, if he was infected why would he kill his own kind? Childs, no one knows, me, I think he wasn't. But that's up to the viewer.

  • @ScarPredator040365

Childs was a thing. Go play the game, it's pretty much a direct sequel to this. You never find MacReady, cause he died, but you find Childs torn up clothes. You also find that tape that MacReady made earlier on in the movie. The game is just as scary.

  • @xTheForgottenOnexx macready never dies because at the end of the game when you have to kill the big monster in the helicopter macready is driving the helicopter

  • This is my theory of all the Thing's actions. Part 1

First, the dog-Thing infected Palmer and Blair got infected because of all those autopsies he did. Benings got eaten by the Thing from the Norwegian station and tried to mimic him. During this scene, Windows dropped the keys which gave Blaire the chance to get to the blood in the freezer. Blair then took the parts from the chopper and went crazy to get isolated from the group so he could build the ship from the parts from the chopper.

  • The brother survives to the end? This is a classic movie.

  • @itsmister2u No, the "brother" is THE THING. Where the hell was Childs, lost in the white out? Such BS

  • @MikeDiamond69 blame the writers of the movie

  • Child's is the thing my ass! These were just the last two guys left and they went out freezing to death. What a fucking great movie.

  • Childs is the Thing and Macready is getting ready to kill him. Childs is concerned about it being warm and his jacket is changed from last time (the Thing rips through clothes).

But remember in the beginning when Macready "killed" the computer by pouring booze into it, "frying" it? Well that was FORESHADOWING, and at the end, he is pouring booze into "Childs", which signifies that he is also ready to "fry" The Thing (prob with a flame thrower under his jacket or dynamite).

  • @JesusManson323 If Childs is "The Thing" what can he really do about it? He is done, there is nowhere for him to go.

  • @MrTheSwampthing it can freeze until the rescue team comes and then regenerate like it did earlier in the film

  • @Tarenaccount

really i have never heard of this one, i'am going to guess it is locked up along with the happy ending where Macready also survives and takes a blood test and turns out to be human after all. i wish they would release them! Just curious though how did you find out about this ending?

  • Childs is the Thing someone previously brought up the fact Childs changes jackets from part 9 and 10 when he meets Macready again. Remember the Thing rips through clothing. So it was in fact Childs who was the Thing and Mac knew it when he wasn't afraid of taking a sip from his bottle.

  • John Carpenters greatest movie. One of my all time favorites!

  • I think Childs is infected in the game MaCready appears.

  • What the hell was Nauls thinking anyway. Shittiest ending out the main cast. Walk aimlessly in the direction of what he probably thinks is the Thing, never see him again. Probably assimilated.

  • @Keloon334 his assimiation was supposed to be grusome, at least that what the storyboard looked like. Too bad they didn't put it in the movie

  • Never seen this movie before, so perhaps something slipped my attention, however I bet Childs is infected.

  • brownie likes dick in his ass and likes to eat mens assholes he keeps asking to eat mine

  • 1:45

    DIABEETUS

  • @ChoujiMan "Here let me check your sugar diabetus" lol

  • @dealmaker007 He just wanted Gary to sign up for Liberty Medical, but Gary didn't listen.

  • As a huge horror aficionado, i can't believe i waited so long to watch this. That was incredibly well done.

  • @baserocklove Shame on you! Have you see Shinning and Alien the 8th Passenger? :D

  • @Soviet20

I assume you mean "The Shining" which is one of the best if not the best scary movies. As for alien the 8th passenger, never heard of it, i'll take a look.

  • @baserocklove You've never see the fist Alien movie?! then you gotta see the whole saga of Alien it's four of them:

    Alien the 8th Passenger

    Aliens (The Rescue)

    Alien 3

    Alien Resurrection

Don't watch the Alien vs Predator or AvsP Requiem ones...those are just plain crap! :C

    Predator

    Predator 2

These other 2 Are more action based

  • It is said that a prequel will be made; that may solve some of the plot issues here.

  • check dis out tho...u saw how mcready smirked wen he gave him that lil bottle 2 drink at the end? hahaha yeeeaaaaaa....he's the thing...jus contaminated childs...o yea u like dat huh...thats either how it iz or neither of them iz the thing bcuz if childs wuz the thing he had the dam- flame thrower in his hand, he wulda eitha cookd dat boi or bit him

  • Not sure if it has already been brought up, but I noticed on another board somebody was talking about Chlds and the fact that he wasn't breathing at the end. You can clearly tell that Mac is breathing because of how cold it is and nothing is coming from Childs mouth. That could be one clue, but earlier in the film when Blair was performing the autopsy he mentions that they have the same anatomy as we do. Lungs, kidneys, heart.... So if they had lungs wouldn't they breathe just like us.

  • @cbstve11 yea they would breath just like us, and more specifically, they DO breath like us. Childs breath can be seen if you look hard, its just the lighting that makes it so hard to make out. Carpenter himself stated that this was true, and that the "breath thing" means absolutely nothing. It can also be noted that in a earlier scene, when Bennings is transforming outside, surrounded by the group, you can see his breath, thus proving the thing breathes like us

  • @jrodc123 Thanks, I also realized that they would just copy every organ in our body in order to live just like us. Just a great movie so many plausible arguments, but so few answers. I hope they don't butcher the movies idea in the prequel.

  • FAAAAACKYUUUUUUUUUUU!

    "Yeah fuck you too."

  • im wacthing the thing the last episode show me more movies

  • *The Thing appears and (again) scream like a noob*

"Yeah, fuck you too!"*Throws the bomb*

*The Thing dies like a noob

    :D 4:00 - 4:45

  • Yeah! Fuck you too!!!

  • This isn't that complicated guys, neither Childs or Mac are the Thing. The whole point of that scene is to express that while they don't trust each other at all, they realize that it is ultimately futile to try and do anything about it.

They either try to kill eac other and freeze to death, or just wait it out and freeze to death.

  • @JamesChurn you may be right but you may also not be right. the ending is ambiguous. thats the REAL point of the ending. There is no exact answer for who was or wasnt the thing, nor is there any clue to what will happen to mac and childs (unless you play the video game, which i dont really count). the first time i saw it years ago, i was kind of on the same page with you, but after watching it again and again, i like to think that the ending could be looked at in many different ways.

  • @JamesChurn Well your answer isn't wrong but it isn't right either. Just like jrodc123 pointed out (and like i did in my previous two posts), you can look at the ending at many different ways. You think Childs and Mac aren't infected ? Totally fine by me. That's your ending to the movie

  • Creeps me out every fucking time.

  • Childs is The Thing. Notice his coat, it was blue in the last scene we seen him in and now it's brown. Remember the ideal that The Thing rips through people's clothes when it attacks? And MacReady's laugh at the end? Revealing isn't it?

  • @JackRimbaud Some things dont add up in your arguments. In the last scene, everything has the same colour because of the lighting from the fire. Your second argument about ripping through clothes holds up to a certain degree. We see that Garry gets killed by the Blair-thing by putting a hand on his and killing him. So he could infect people without ripping through clothes. The laughing doesnt point out anything.

  • @Xtinct666 If you notice, MacReady in the last scene is still wearing his leather jacket, it's underneath the blanket that's around him. Everything is not the same color in the last scene and Childs coat went from blue to brown. Giving Childs the J&B at the end recalls when we first see MacReady playing chess and drinking J&B at the very beginning.

A check mate perhaps but who is the winner?

The cynical laugh at the end, to me, tells me that MacReady knows the score.

  • @JackRimbaud I still see the same jacket on Childs. Plus if he did get caught by Blair, then why didn't Blair kill him the way he killed Garry ? Where would Childs imitation get a new jacket from if he got killed/assimilated like Bennings ? The imitation would have had to travel in the pitch dark and half-naked through the blizzard. Though i must say that the J&B scene might give a hint. But like i said before, it's all open for speculation and everybody can make their own ending if they wish.

  • @JackRimbaud Though it is very possible that Childs is infected. Same counts for MacReady, although there is little "evidence" for MacReady being infected. In the end we'll never know for sure. They left the ending open so people could make out for themselves who is infected. PS: in my last comment: "Hand on his" should be "Hand on his face"

  • There's one thing left unanswered though. Doc and Palmer were both clean. if neither of them were the thing, who got the blood from the case? The test had to have been flawed, but the Thing killed Palmer AND Doc. So here's my idea; what If the Thing had a plan that involved one of the two LOOKING dead (Probably Palmer) and then sneaking off? Maybe Chiles was running from them and got infected.

  • @tikifreakazoid what are you talking about? Palmer wasn't clean. The blood test, which wasn't flawed, clearly showed that. As for who got the blood from the case, it was either Palmer or Norris (not enough evidence to conclude which of them). I think you might be mixing up Palmer and Clark, who tried to attack Mac because he thought Mac was the thing, and was then killed by Mac, not the thing. Its clear that Clark was never the thing, so your idea doesnt really work

  • If Mac was infected and had drunk out of the bottle before Childs, wouldn't Childs become infected as well, due to him maybe putting his lips on a bottle and drinking something an infected had used earlier? That way, both are infected, both would freeze there and await a rescue group to com e find them, thaw them, and release both of them out into civilization. and since both are infected, the infection will spread faster. I don't know, just something I came up with lol

  • @jrodc123 The bottle is the reason I think Childs is the Thing. If Childs was human, he wouldn't be willing to drink after Mac b/c he would be afraid that Mac was the Thing. I think Mac realizes this too, which is why he chuckles.

  • i know everyone has been debating about the unanswered questions in this movie, and just recently after watching this (for probably the 5th or 6th time), i came up with my own theory on the ending. I think Mac had somehow been infected by the thing, and Childs was still human. I couldn't help but notice that after Childs took a drink out of that liquor bottle Mac had, Mac kinda grinned and chuckled, not to mention that the creepy music starts playing the second the bottle touches Childs lips.

  • 1:44 is how the diabeetus gets you

  • Who do you guys think was infected? I'm kinda thinking Chiles but man I don't know. I thought Copper was infected but he wasn't.

  • Don't forget guys, there's the game sequel to this...has a nice ending... :)

  • Holy crap that was great

  • This and Alien are the most disturbing movies ever.

  • that music freaks me out

  • blair to garry at 1:50 "hold still dammit, you just have something in your teeth!"

  • Now this was a good ending... A creepy ending and it leaves a question mark as to what will happen and what is what. THANK YOU FOR POSTING!! This is one of the greatest horror movies of all time and Survival horror movies of all time.

  • Im glad i finally got around to watching this, great movie. Thanks for the upload.

  • Great film..glad most of them died cause they were stupid...but great film

    Thanks for the upload.

  • i miss these kinds of endings where its left in the open WITHOUT the need for a sequel

  • "Thanks again for the post!"

  • I wonder If the thing could assimilate plant cells

  • if only that Norwegian had better aim way back in the beginning and had been able to shoot the dog. good job. lol

  • @gingabredman4416 Oh yeah, blame it all on the Norwegians. lol

  • An excellent movie and the short story they mention that it is based on isn't bad either. Its very much worth trying to find.

  • why is he telling them to split up thats the worst thing you could do because it can just pick you off 1 by 1.

  • my favorite movie of all time , bless you, thank you , may they never re-make it , the videogame SUCKED. (go figure) ty again

  • One thing I don't get is: If they want to keep the thing from freezing, what would blowing up their station accomplish other than giving them nowhere to stay warm? The thing COULD'VE decided to wander off while they're blowing everything up and find a nice frosty sleeping spot.

  • @burnedbonemeal I think they knew he d try to wonder off and planned to roast it when it tryed escaping the burning station and ya gotta think with that snow storm heading their way they didnt have a lot of time to think of a way to kill it either

  • @burnedbonemeal No! The thing is turned on on its prey, it cant just leave the men! Gonna have some action, would you walk away from sex?

  • @burnedbonemeal I thought the same too

  • @burnedbonemeal But if the thing doesn't stay at the base, he's not guaranteed to be found by the rescue team. Then he might have to wait another 100,000 years.

  • @burnedbonemeal but then there would be no cool explosion scene :(

  • @burnedbonemeal Problem is if the thing left the facility there would be less chances it could be found by the rescue party so it would want to stay and kill the three survivors it would be easier. As for the other three they already know they cant surive so they try to kill it to save mankind

  • @Diabolosbean That's what I said, that the Thing would've been found if it left.

  • @burnedbonemeal after they blew it all up. the thing still sleeps and they freeze to death. new guys come and it all starts over.

  • @burnedbonemeal Well if the Thing left the station then the rescue team probably wouldn't have found it and it would've been frozen forever. But that's just me.

  • @burnedbonemeal It if wandered off and frozen somewhere else no one would ever find it. It wanted to be found.

  • @burnedbonemeal if they wanter off they can still find them

  • @burnedbonemeal Maybe, but if it wandered off, it could have stayed hidden for another 10000 years maybe.

The thing knew, that people would eventually come to the station to look for survivors.

  • lol. 'Yeah fuck you too'

  • @vexxez That was probably the best one-liner ever.

  • @vexxez ahah

  • The Thing and Leviathan best movies ever!

  • gotta love that alien blair!!!

  • you should makeit a little more clear, i clicked on the part 10 credits thinking that was it

  • Classic sci-fi horror movie. Really nice story and script with some fine old-school special effects.

  • i woz see this 10 years ago and i watch this now is 5/5

  • That was fuckin awesome! I've watched three movies today: mad max, the shining and the thing, and the thing is by far the best one i've seen today. In fact i'd say that this may be the best horror movie i've ever seen! Brilliant! Thanks 4 uploadin it

  • Thanks for uploading this. :)

  • i just watched the whole movie, Thanks for the upload mate definately subscribing.

  • - it is Americans who discover the space ship and the thing, they accidentally ignite and destroy the space ship with thermite charges (the ships hull had magnesium alloy)

    - in the book the things are mostly killed by an electrocuting device (but some by blowtorches too) and men spend time electrocuting or pouring acid on every piece and stain of blood that things leave behind

    - 37 men, 4 cows, 1 bull, and dogs at the outpost and 15 men and all animals become infected

  • - the main heroes are McReady, Norris and Barclay

    - among the characters seen in the film at least McReady, Norris and Dr Copper dont become infected and survive in the book

    - but Gary, Clark and the cook (called Kinner, not Nauls in the book) become infected

    - there is a strong suggestion that Blair was infected very early and wanted to be isolated from everyone to build the technology to escape the outpost

  • - the Blair thing creates a small atomic power generator emitting strong heat and an anti-gravitation harness during one week (if humans survive in the end, they gain this technology)

    - spring is approaching and the men are most afraid that the Thing will escape by finding and imitating a bird (sua gull or albatross)

    - the ending seems to be optimistic (apparently all things were killed, no buildings were blown up, the spring has nearly arrived, 12 out of 37 men have survived)

  • Some puzzling situations in the book.

    1. One man-thing kills another man-thing with a knife.

    2. Dr Copper makes a blood test using his own and Garys blood. Then Copper realises that either he or Gary is a thing. Both question their own humanity.

    3. McReady performs a test on one man and the man turns into the thing. Commander Gary is very amazed and says that he would have never believed that the man was a thing. Thirty seconds later McReady tests Gary and Gary turns into a thing.

  • In John Carpenters The Thing there is 100% certaincy that the monster survived because men never disposed of little pieces of the monsters. On the contrary, McReady throws a dynamite stick at the burning Palmer thing, sending pieces of the thing all over the place. Morever, at least in the book The Thing is capable of creating a small energy generator which functions on water isotopes and emits a lot of heat (keeping a shack very warm).

  • @Yanocchi100 Cool Story, bro.

  • @Yanocchi100 plz tell me what are u smoking :D

  • I just saw my mommy kissing Yog-Sothoth. =(

  • I don't get one thing: If someone was infected by "the thing", was he aware of that? If so, i don't believe that he had the same character now, and all his memories from the past.. So wouldn't it be much easier to just ask some "control questions" about the past or someting like that, instead of this creepy blood test?

  • cheers for the post awesome movie

  • Oh... man... That just freaked me the hell out... XD And that's kinda what I get for watching it when it's dark outside and about to go to bed... I actually couldn't help but look at my cat who was sitting in my lap and ask her if she was an alien like that. XDD Laughing always makes me feel better when things scare me.

Anywho, when it comes to "scary" it's not really horror movie scary to me. It's more sci-fi and for me that seems to be the most scary... But I loved it none the less!! :D

  • Wow the final transformation had everything it absorbed....buuut it didn't work for shit.

  • there probably is some freaky shit lurking down at antarctica...man, quite unexplored, that place.

  • im watching this at 2 a.m. and playing the game at the same time. should have some interesting dreams.

  • @vampgnr69.. is the game any good to play

  • Not that scary but still an awesome movie.

  • first time watching this movie and i got to say i am creeped the hell out. on youtube. dam i feel like a kid again, i think i might ask my brother if i can sleep at his house tonight hahahahaha good movie but dam hoorror movies now days have never freaked me out like the old stuff such as this movie. dam it's going to be a long night tonight dam it im freaked

  • meh not that scary ... now to go to sleep at 1am after watching this movie by myself in a dark room. ok im a little scared =p

  • I almost made it through this whole movie without jumping, but 1:43 got me.

  • true mollyixxx that leads us to belive that "the black guy" may be the infected one. =)

  • You can see the breath of Macready in the final scene but not with the black guy. John Carpenter left that for only the savvy viewer to pick up on. :-)

  • He didn't, it was just due to the set lighting, Carpenter mentions that in the DVD commentary.

  • so, boys & girls!: let this be a lesson to you: if your ever, ever in norway, [or any country, where there is nothing but snow, coldness & ice] & you should by chance find a [100,000 year old] alien spacecraft, buried in 200 feet of ice & dirt: leave the fucking thing alone!!!!!!!!... or else... [word]

  • i couldnt like this comment any more mate you're SO right!!

  • that just poped out of no where and killed that guy by puting his hand over his mouth what the fuck.......lol

  • @syndicate1 wow couldnt have said it any better myself

  • Blair meant that if a lifeform had been assimilated into the thing, and you "killed" that lifeform, you needed to incinerate the entire remains, otherwise, the individual pieces (i.e., unburned internal organs) would still be "Things".

Blair was right, as Norris "spider" demonstrated.

  • If The Thing can affect dead tissue, why not infect the Norwegian who slit his throats and wrists?

Why not infect the Norwegian Garry shot or the dead Clark and Dr. Copper?

  • MacReady & Childs are the only survivors.

  • The noose does indicate he was infected in the shed.

  • He might have destroyded transport and communication to prevent anyone from leaving and prevent word from getting to civilizzation.

We don't know when Blair was infected.

  • It might have dug it's way thru the ground.

  • The Casting Director deserves an Oscar for this

-12 characters/12 distinct, memorable performances, and only one modestly (at the time) big name

    -Kurt Russell.

Most films today have not a single character I can remember

-but I know each of these guy's names, their jobs, and how they get killed.

No pretty boys in the bunch.

  • oh yeah and to be dead honest i think Mcready is actually one of The Things.

  • Then why doesn't he just kill Childs?

  • hmmm, i guess actually none of them are the Thing, still my idea is a strong possibility

  • in the game childs appears burned when the player goes to the location showed at the end of the movie... you can see Mc Ready helping the player at the end of the game

  • oh shit.... just so many unansweared questions........ and thats why this movie is one of the best

  • Great movie but it had too much suspense so they didn't have enough room for enough action and horror.

  • Not enough action and horror?

This is not an "action" film

-go wacth one of those stupid "Die Hard" movies for action.

    Not enough horror?

When it was released, it was so gory, critics howled at what was up on the screen.

  • No, I mean there was too much time spent on suspense that they only had enough time for a few minutes of gore and horror.

  • What's the prequal going to be called?

  • @Beachboy2138 The thing returns, I'm sure of it lol.
