  • I saw the entire original band in the 1980's when they all were "Alive" and got back together. There were awesome then. One of my three fav bands when I was in High School (Class of '73) and they're still doing all their songs in the original keys and that's NOT easy singing that they do. I read about all the legal battles with the band vs. Chuck. Too bad it had to come to that, it was like a bad divorce. They STILL Rock though

  • No Chuck, Joe or Floyd.....just Dog Night now (c'mon......Danny Hutton on lead vocals??? ) I pride myself on being a huge fan of the old band and this don't even come close.

  • WOW! I was in jr high when they were popular! I won't say anymore!

  • After all these years still pretty good.

  • They still got it. I loved Three Dog Night way back when.

  • I will never tire of this incredible tune an awesome band with incredible voices and magnetism LOVE YOU

  • I want this song to play when the New York Giants offense takes the field for Eli Manning. So damn catchy.

  • Phenomenal performance. What a great concert this must have been. Band sounds as great as they ever did. Sorry to say I don't miss Chuck one bit.

  • My favorite 3DN song, and my favorite version of it.

  • Did you know that the phrase 3 dog night, refers to how cold it is. The US army soldiers in Germany would say 1 dog next to you was kinda chilli, but 3 dogs meant it was really freakin cold.

  • Yep, they need to change the name to Two Dog Night. Nowhere near as good as they were when Chuck was singing with them.

  • Great Song , But (And I Mean a Very Big "BUT" ) , It's not the same without Chuck Negron .

  • This is my favorite TDN song and although it's not exactly the same without Chuck, after 40+ years together these two guy still bring it.... WOW!!

  • Great song!

  • Great performance!!!! I wanted to dance and shout!

  • Without Chuck Negron, it's only Two Dog Night, still very talented but not the same without Chuck, just sayin!!

  • Just saw these guys in Ft. Wayne last weekend, absolutely fantastic!!!!

  • Now thats what you call pure Talent!

  • no ..not about anything..but one thing...this moment was a spiritual thing, especially at the end..forget comparisons, does not come in the equation..this was a moment that just was...sometimes church is not at church....this was church...

  • Awesome! Having vocals of this quality(yes even without Chuck Negron) is priceless. These guys still rock. Thumbs up to the bass player who pulled off those vocals extremely well. One of the best versions I've ever heard.

  • @1956chip I'm with you, man. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

I am flat ass impressed....does this old man good to see them still out there doin this...WOW

  • The man still has his pipes!

  • this is the best version out EVER.

  • my name is eli fail

  • @MicaDOG hahaha me too

  • All admiration to these guys for carrying on.But guys...you SUCK without Chuck Negron.Bury the hatchet before it's too late.

  • @kingtyr1958 You are 100% right my friend.

  • Awesome!! I still have goose bumps and will be at Humphrey's Sept. 16 in San Diego!

  • stillllllllllll GOT IT! Excellent!

  • Damn, I have watched this dozens of times and all I can say is, Damn.

  • I personally think this song in this rendision is the best song I've ever heard and thru my 68 years I've heard a lot and sang a lot. But this one is at the top of my list suplanting Elvis, Frankie Laine, Lee Greenwood and all the others who have sung great songs. This just lifts me up and transports me to another plain. Damned good. Way to go Cory, Denny. Wish Chuck were with you, but that guitar man can sing too.

  • These guys are classic!!!!!!!!!! Eli's coming! I'm gonna go hide my heart now.

  • When was this recorded?

  • Still listening to this one about every day.

  • Like a fine wine, only better with age.

  • ez is rettentően jó:)

  • My wife told me if I just keep on sitting here listening to this song again and again, she'll go away ...I'm gonna miss her....

  • Use a good set of head phones.

  • bilkex, I respect your opinion but give it another listen.

  • Sure it isn't the same, get over it. Things change. Why do people resist change. The Ford Mustang got better with change in the late 60's. I'm sure a lot better than I was in the 70's,( You'll just have to take my word for it.) THIS VERSION ROCKS.

  • Without Chuck....it's not the same.

    Like Satisfaction without Mick Jagger.

  • Damn!!! I have watched this every day for the past two weeks since I found it. Finally HAD to comment. I agree with as435943, I never really liked this song but this version ROCKS. It has been stuck in my head for days, and Cory is at his best, just keeps getting better and better. I'll be checking out there tour schedule. Would love to see them live.

  • Eli's Coming...

  • WOW!!! Is all I can say....oh...and 7 people won't know Eli's Coming until it's too late!

  • Comment removed

  • COME ON, .....OBVIOUSLY GREATLY INFLUENCED BY BLACK BAPTIST/PENTACOSTAL CHURCH MUSIC..... WELL DONE!!!!!! ;I LUV THIS GROUP!!! WOW!!

  • @BROOKLYNBRENDA Now here I would say you're right....certainly some influence from Black Baptist/Petacostal....this arrangement is awesome....and it certainly has that energy!

  • wow! even better than the original. Always thought they were "ahead of their time" lol

  • Great version here. Love 3DN. Cudo's to Laura Nyro for writing it. May she RIP.

  • thnk God 4 black people and their music,we do love you, give us a chance :)

  • djack41... thanks for the heads up on the DVD!

  • I was at this concert and it was fantastic. Performed near Nashville at the Renaissance Center. The entire DVD of the concert is excellent. Great post production.

  • I've always been a huge TDN fan but never enjoyed Eli's Coming... until viewing this video. Wow! And I mean WOW! I found myself jumping out of my seat. Funny thing is near the end of the video I noticed that the audience was still in their seats. Go figure?

  • What a great Song! My First Concert Ever in 1973! Cape Cod Collesium in South Yarmouth Ma, Ole Cape Cod. The place was a sweat factory but the show Rocked!

  • Great version. Falsetto part is a little weak but the strong energy overall places this one on my favorites list.

  • @PonjitoCachondito

CHUCK NEGRON is the best even Aug. 2110....his voice is better than ever......he tour alson with his son-in-law in the band, and 2 daughters, about, 4 and 12

    sing this song with him..

Corey and Danny....tour as Three Dog Night.....but htey're only 2 Dog Night

    Just the facts

  • Negron is forever a Three Dog Night imo, but this was still a good video.

  • Check out Paul Kingery singing Chuck's part. Mesmerizing. He's damn cute, too!

  • @lesliewinger Sorry, his voice isn't even CLOSE to being as good as Chuck Negron-----and Chuck's even BETTER now! BTW, Corey hasn't aged well, Danny only a little better!

  • LOVE THIS. Cory and Danny are great as always but whoa check out Paul Kingery singing Chuck's part. Mesmerizing. This guy is hypnotic. Pretty damn cute too. Definitely got my attention.

  • I love the original w/ Chuck. But this video kicks ass. I saw a video from the same time from Chick N., not even close to the talent of this.

  • Even though Negron went on a 25 year drugscapade as you put it.....Chuck still looks & sounds better than Cory or Danny! Chuck will away be the face & the voice of THREE DOG NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cory~,Smile! I love your slime and was a good dancer!

  • They're like an aged fine wine....better all the time! :) Thank you for sharing this, made my night, brought back many memories. Peace~~

  • Wow, what a magnificient performance! He's so right, I LOVE the symphony music background and rock together. Thank you for sharing, brought back many memories, this time around they were EVEN better! Peace~~

  • This is one of the most amazing and energetic performances I have ever seen. These guys nail this song to your chest and head and it sticks with you for days, one of those "must watch daily" performances. I appreciate all versions of this song but this one resonates an emotion of triumph. I hope they have many performing years left in them because if I have but one regret, it is not seeing them live and in person.

  • ELI, HEAVEN REJOICES AT YOUR COMING! WE LOVE YOU! TRUDY

  • That sounded great!

  • This was a truly fantastic concert at the Renaissance Center in Dickson Tennessee, near Nashville. The entire concert is on DVD which can be ordered by calling 615 740-5506. The production of the DVD is exceptional.

  • i like thjis a little

  • Wow...always loved Three dog night....Awesome

  • awesome song, just them in Tucson, az 8/6/10 rocked the house

  • Love it when Cory shows he can still bust a move near the end.

  • Cooool!!!

  • And that my friends is singing.

  • Does anyone know what DVD this is from? I'd love to buy it.

    Thanks

  • @bclester this ran on PBS during a donation request week, maybe check there, this is amazing!!!!

  • Brought me right back to where I was the happiest. This Group was and still is a "Class Act" .

  • yes, this is why music means so much to me.... to channel the sounds in my head, the universe, the inner-verse, .. To see these guys again just blows me away. This is a place for comments, yet the place I want to comment about is the place where words fall away and there is no need for comment, idle chatter boxes are silent and things just "are" * oceans of love from Mississippi

  • They have, and always will....KICK ASS. Awesome performance.

  • Wow! My mortality is right in front of my eyes, but I'll die a happy person with this music. These guys are a few years older than me, but they've made so many happy memories for me and I pray the Lord will let me take these happy songs with me to wherever I'm meant to go. I love you guys so much! Love and Peace right back at you from the 1970s!

  • After all these years, they still got it.

  • Although this is a great remake of the song. Sad but true it is lacking the vocals of Chuck Negron. They are still my BOYS and I love them all. But the golden days were the best.

  • Wenylranger: I saw them in concert last summer at a casino. Allsup was not there, no meet and greet, no autos & not much interaction with the audience whatsoever. I have been a huge fan since 1969 & was so disappointed. Chuck did not leave the group as stated below, he was ousted due to his sickness & heroin addiction. If you ever have an opportunity to see Chuck Negron & the Negron Band do so, he does not disappoint. He sang lead on half of their hits & still sounds amazing & a super nice guy!

  • Sorry but Kingery trying to sing Chuck's part is a joke. Take a listen to Eli's coming recorded live off of their TDN Greatest Hits Live CD and it will knock your socks off. No comparison. and there is no comparison.

  • I want to get this DVD! They still sound so good!

  • im going tosee them in july at a casino, does anyone know if they have a meet and greet session or at least autograph signing ?

  • Three Dog Night came from a time when tallent meant something.

  • the bassist has some serious pipes

  • This guys still got the pipes.

  • Daaaaaaaaaamn, now I know where all my talent went.

  • Great song! Especially for a band whose median age is around 62.

  • Wow.., with this performance you can hear why these guys where the best! Still got it!

  • not bad for guys near 70

  • is it...one dog missing???

  • @02javis Chuck Negron got REALLY messed up in drugs. (he's the one who had a mustache). He "left" the band and Corey and Danny went on without him.

  • I guess 2/3 is better than none......and they are still pretty good !!!!!! But without Chuck it's just not the same..........

  • great great great first bavd i saw when 16 years old got inspired i play piano and organ now with no regrets

  • So much effort and noise about almost nothing...

  • Three Dog Night did right by Laura Nyro's tune...in the late 60's and again as they performed this concert

  • That was just incredible! Wow. What the f---k..

! I grew up listening to this group in the late 60's and this is amazing! Where's Chuck?

  • Awesome performance!! These guys still put on an incredible show after all these years!

  • This makes american idoLL look like peanut BRITTLE................

  • soul

  • I can play that lead guitar with my eyes shut

  • saw them when he was kicking heroin

  • excellent observation ruphia

  • I like it

  • What's this manheim steam roller intro about? That's appalling.

Well, whatever. A bands sound is gonna change as they age.

  • I love you Cory.

  • perhaps his eyes are shut because his vision of the song he sings and the emotion he brings are that much deeper ...i think..no..i know his voice has such a great passion that it is beyond the previous version of anything heard..thank you cory..i mean it..thank you so much

  • Comment removed

  • I was wondering what was up with Cory keeping his eyes shut too...I don't remember him keeping them closed so much in the 70's...

  • Too much Manheim Steam Roller in the intro. Such genious of choosing a Laura Nyro tune and turning it into a hit.

  • just about the best live band i've ever heard.

  • WHEN was this recorded? TDN sounds excellent here. I am thinking Old Westbury Music Fair on Long Island or Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT.

  • Hope to see you guys in Nevada, love you Cory.

  • This just goes to prove that you dont have to be past your prime just because you are older!!! Nice job guys!!!! I would have gone to your concerts when I was younger but "Mama told me not to come"! LOL

  • This song would make it big during any era!!!

  • I didn't like the way he cut in on Danny also.

  • Comment removed

  • if I didn't know any better and wasn't looking at the video, I would swear it was Styx playing an intro to a song of theirs...they sound great! Big 3DN fan!

  • @kenstewart007 I thought it sounded like Styx also. I guess they are doin the best they can with what they got. rock on!

  • I loved Chuck but after seeing lately he hasn't been able to hit the high notes like he used, unlike Cory and Danny who I think have gotten better with age. As far as Cory, I always liked his bluesy voice the best. Never has been underrated.

  • Fantastic... and Unique! I was fortune to see them live in Merced, California 2004.

Three Dog Nights= Very, Very, Very Cool Night, From Alaska Said. Most sleep with three dogs; to keep you worm.

  • Watched this again.

Cory's voice in rock was and still is I might add under rated.

I never really like this song. But this version was just powerful. It went on my favorite's list:)

I'll say it again a prefect 10. Simply kick *ss.

  • @as435943 you don't have a clue. Wells was on tap to vocal this before Negron anyway, and then of course Chuck-baby goes into a twenty-year drug-slide. Us boomers don't like that shit, much less his holier-than-thou return.

  • @3Rubee Obviously, you haven't read Chuck's book, "Three Dog Nightmare" (I just finished it a couple of hours ago), or you wouldn't say that he has a "holier than thou" attitude now! He accepts full responsibility for his actions, and realizes that he is lucky to be alive, thanks to the grace of God, who was DEFINITELY looking out for him, and has blessed him with the return of his beautiful voice and his beautiful soul! If ANYONE is "holier than thou", it's CORY, who is a real prick!

  • @as435943 Cory Wells and Danny Hutton are SUPERB, in top shape...too bad NEgron went on a 25 year drugscapade...

  • Where's the 20 stars button when yo need one...great great post!!!!

  • Still got that GREAT voice.

    A prefect 10 live version.

Don't get any better. All the so called rockers of today should have to watch it and see just how to top your own song:)

    Wow this was good.

  • still crazy after all these years!

  • Just FANTASTIC...better with age guys!

  • This is just absolutely ass kicking amazing music comin out of this smokin group. Cory, don't smile, it adds an edge, a sharp one. This literally blew my doors completly off and I passed it on to all I knew. It made me a fan. Great talent in the vocals of this silent one.

  • Cory is awesome. So is Danny. I wish Cory would smile like he always did in his earlier days. His voice is awesome. I love you Cory.

  • Amazing! Even better than the original!

  • You're so right! I is a wonderful rendition.

    Totally amazing

  • Aren't there others in the band that are also survivors? Isn't it also likely that other people find other singers in the band to be the one with a tone and range that others didn't have?

  • Three Dog Night was a group to be reckoned with in the late 60's and

70's.Did Chuck do wrong going down that road...yes he did. But he wasn't the only one. Many artist died. If God forgives we should. Chuck is a survivor. To think that one singer made the group is wrong but Chuck was awesome with a tone and range the others didn't have, as good as they were. It was the efforts of all 3 that made it happen. It is wrong that this group is not in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Reunite.

  • What is the line of lyrics before "every where I go"?

  • I walk to apollo by the bay. Iwonderd that for years.

  • google apollo bay ..it's beaut....

  • Also I feel all three members made up TDN and their accomplishments. They were great in the past and are still a driving force with stand out vocals. Long live TDN and their following.

  • Three Dog Night was a consistent hit-maker in 1969 and the early '70's along with two other bands: Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Guess Who.

  • Long live ThreeDog Night! They are coming to Tyler, TX , wish Chuck was with them but they sound great without him. They sound great live today as they did back 40 years ago.

  • Chuck or no Chuck....whatever. Listen to these guys....40 years they've been singing this and it sounds GREAT. Fans will never know the whole story behind their relationship and problems with Chuck. Regardless.....these guys deserve props for carrying on 40+ years and still sounding fantastic. How many artists have sustained that long? I'm impressed.

  • I actually e-mailed Chuck and he told me some of the past with TDN. He told me that he was offered to perform with these two for the tour in 1999. He said that he had his best years with TDN and wanted to basically leave it atb that. He said that he is happy with the way his life is now. He can perform TDN songs and not get any crap from these two. He had a rough time with drugs and they are now in his past and is content .

  • Interesting tjerwin1.....thanks for the info. As usual, the fans blow up the real facts. I had a feeling their relationship wasn't as bad as the fans made it out to be.

  • I just did a Google search and articles came up about Chuck Negron suing Three Dog Night in 1998 for the rights to the name. Nothing about touring together.

  • I only know what he told me dude.

  • I appears that all of the information in the public comes directly from Chuck Negron, outside of Jimmy Greenspoon's book that predates Chuck's book.

It's like only listening to the ex wife's version of a relationship. There are usually two side to every story. In this case, maybe 3.

  • To those of you who think Chuck's recent rendition of Eli is not as good, do you realize that as he was going thru recovery he had to learn how to talk basically and how to sing again. He had to hire a singing coach to get his voice back. It's amazing he can even sing at all. He has permanent lung damage from long ago untreated pneumonia, plus he has emphezema. I think he does very well considering what all he has had to overcome.

  • Interesting rendition, but WAY too orchestrated. That's not what TDN was all about. They were good, simple, fun R&R.

I agree that, although Chuck really stepped on it back in the day, they should probably make nice today.

  • these guys are serious artists, this is an interesting rendition. As far as Chuck Negron, I am sure it's a very personal matter to all involved. To understand what's going on is difficult at best to those that are just fans. Rock on!

  • i am new to the 3 dog night scene, but i love their music, what is going on with people and chuck Negron?

  • Chuck Negron sang lead vocals for Three Dog Night's biggest hits, such as One, Joy to the World, and Easy to be Hard was dismissed by the above two singers, due to drug problems The above singers market themselves as Three Dog Night, and despite Chuck's efforts to rejoing them, have rebuffed him. Chuck has recovered and has written a biography Three Dog Nightmare,--it's horrifying, yet inspiring. . Definitely listen to TDN's earlier music--no orchestra then--just really good rock.

  • You claim that 4 of the members of the original band "market" themselves as Three Dog Night? This a lot of original members for a 40 year old band. 4 out of 7, Chuck Negron has not been in Three Dog Night for over 20 years according to his own book.

  • It sounds like a lot of people here never really got the lyrics of "Easy to be Hard", judging by all the Chuck bashers. Remember, "How can people be so cruel?" I guess I listened to the lyrics. I'm sorry so many people choose to get some sort of perverse pleasure from bashing him after he gave us all such wonderful music. Does it make you feel better to bash him? Yes, he screwed up, but all that seems to overshadow his great contribution to rock. I feel sorry for you guys.

  • OK, i just watched the original and this one...honestly I think they hold up pretty damn fine. Really a great song and a great group. I'm still looking for their version of "get ready'".

I would have liked a little less orchestra and a little more raw..but just mho.

  • Mousiemouth.

I am serious. Any opinion expressed is subjective by nature. I have seen these guys live back in the early 70s. To me Chuck had the weakest voice (on that night). A pretty voice to be sure.

Danny and Cory have not lost a bit of what they had back then. I don't know if you have seen any of Chuck's recent work, to me he has lost whatever he had. I'm not a doctor but I expect that is probably from so many years of substance abuse. It was sad for me to watch.

    Just one guy's opinion.

  • who is this lead singer!

  • Are you kidding? Not meant as a diss but you really don't know? Cory Wells is his name, other guy is Danny Hutton from the original band. Missing is Chuck Negron

  • I think they are better without Chuck.

  • You cannot be serious!!!

  • Want the truth about it? In 1982, I named my first son after this song beause of the power of it. He died when he was seven. I think he was too powerdful for this world. His charisma was incredible. He would have been the man of the title. Now you are welcome to slam me as I know will happen.

  • why would anyone slam you for that? I'm sorry for your loss.

  • Your post and those like it provide a frame for the music. Music without listeners and without effect on them is no better than silence. No, it is worse. Silence allows thought and prayer..

    NEVER hesitate to reach out.

NEVER build a wall around your heart. You'll never feel the love your brothers and sisters have for you if you protect yourself too much.

Christ's commandment in the Sermon on the Mount is "Love one another." We're trying. Please let us.

    Tom in Utica NY

  • Anyone head the "Affinity's" version of this song? Much more hearted, in my honest opinion, although this one is not bad at all.

  • Oh come on now , give credit where its due-these are voices of angels.......

and on the subject listen to the one who wrote this song -who is laura Nyro!!

  • Agreed. But the song is meant to be sung by a Woman, please!

  • how about they are warning a girl,

    ever think about that.......

  • Age has not been kind to Cory, has it? What happened to the guy who used to smile every time he sang? He's not as animated as he used to be :(

However, age has made Danny look for the better.. :)

  • It's funny. I just saw them last night and thought the opposite. Danny never smiled and showed no personality while Cory was the more animated one.

  • Maybe they switch off nights :)

"Who's turn is it to stand like a solider?"

    "Umm.. I think it's yours.."

    "You sure?"

    "Check the calendar.. "

    *Danny checks*

    "Nope, it's your turn.. "

"OK.. Let me inject some Botox so I don't smile.. "

    LOL!

  • Gee, I thought just the opposite. Cory is in his 60's and he rocked. Vocally he was strong, he moved well and hit all those high notes. I've seen much younger do a whole lot worse.....

  • Minxii - I wanted to say that I think Cory isn't as animated as before because he looks like he really has to focus (with eyes closed) in order to hit his notes. I find the singers do a lot of vocal histrionics in order to cover up the fact that they can
