What a marvelous lesson. And, what an effective teaching style! Sure hope to see more lessons on oils; it was so helpful to me - as a beginner, nearing retirement myself! Thank you for the excellent video. Kathy
I tried to leave a comment on another page like this but couldn't. This landscape Painting by David is a great episode. I like Davids enthusiasm of painting and teaching about past artists. His speaking is easy to comprehend and amusing to watch at times with his reactions ( good humor) with his students. He really knows how to make his paintings and others come alive. Hope to see more productions. Thanks.
You inspire me..former painter 30-35 yrs ago... looking to retire and will once again have wet brushes. I enjoy your lessons on Create TV and happy you are in CT and now I find you on utube. You just might see me at one of your classes, I love your enthusiasm, free spirit, and all that knowledge. Wonderful - thank you!
Thanks for your comment. I try to impress on everyone that historically from Turner to Inness the instructing artist worked on their student's paintings. The work becomes collaborative, essentially. This appeared to be the most effective way of demonstrating and absorbing painting lessons. If we can knock the contemporary sense of precious ownership out of the way the path can be cleared for fast learning. I also always asked permission of the student first, which Turner and Inness did not.
I watch David Dunlop on T.V when I get a chance or I catch his schedule. I really like his painting talent and character in teaching. Amusing at times. When I saw him take over one of his students subjects, I thought what is he doing that for, it was coming out well, and then I saw his additions and David made it more dynamic. He added a lot of depth as well in areas. I enjoy his painting and enthusiasm, plus history.
Hi, I am painting on L84C artfix linen, a quadruple handprimed Belgian linen ( hand primed in France) available through Jerry's Artarama . I buy it on rolls that are 85 "tall and 6 yards long. It's an extremely smooth ( the smoothest available on the planet) linen....reminds me of the polished panels of Dutch 17th Century Landscape painters. Best, David
love his passion

What are you painting on? Linen? Canvas? Paper? This looks like cloth of some sort, but thinner.
