  • haha hey mom and dad fire school is alot harder than i thought but look they gave me these nice stickers!

    haha

  • what happens if you leave the nozzle on the ground?

  • I think they're trying to train them not do drop the nozzle. FDNY uses mostly smooth bore nozzles. When you drop one it can distort the shape of the tip (should be round.) When that happens it can poorly affect the fire stream, which can make it less effective. Not to mention the nozzle then needs to be replaced.

  • @nicyjones

the reason we're taught not to drop the nozzle is because another company will not hesitate to pick it up. then you're shit out of luck.

  • i jst graduated from a fireacademy in MI n i was thinkin of goin to chicago FD but they said they give out their test once every 8 to 10 years but i really want to be a FDNY FF

  • my cousin is a Chicago FD firefighter.I want to be a NYPD cop.

  • right now im in the middle of taking my essentials and other classes... I would love to go to fdny for the academy... how do you apply?

  • The next open competitive firefighter exam is Jan 2011. You can file for this exam at the end of 2010. Once you pass, they put you on an eligible list. You'll be waiting like two or three years before appointment. For questions, call here before 4pm EST: (718) 999-FDNY. Good luck!

  • so i will b able to take this part of the test at 17 right then go in to the fdny academy right?

  • you can take the test at 17 but you cannot go into the academy until you are 21

  • you have to be 21 to join the academy i took the test at 19. Just make sure you'll be 21 when your number gets called and you are good to go

  • how old do u have to be to join the fdny?

  • 18... they bring in a huge class every 4 years however due to the economy right now their in a hiring freeze.... I'm 99% certain that they put small classes through every year to

  • ok thankyou cause once im like 18 i wanna join the fdny

  • wrong. You have to be 21 to apply. 20.5 to take the test

  • WRONG you only need to be 17.5 to apply and take the test... thanks for playing

  • haha may have been the funniest thing ive read all day

  • WRONG. You must be 17.5676 to apply and have to be 17.568 to take the test.

  • 17.5 to take the test 21 to be hired (to get into probie school)

  • my bad 3:12

  • 3:30 "But look they gave me these nice stickers" lol

  • hey, i'm from quebec Canada and i'm graduate from the fire academy here,my dream is to be member of the fdny, is it difficult to get the green card and apply for the fdny academy? and is it possible? Thanks a lot for your answer and great work with this video;)

  • Wouldn't know about the green card situation, I think you'd definitely have to be a naturalized citizen which I think takes years, then take the test. I did pretty good and waited 4 yrs, they were putting in small classes until late '06 when hiring sped up a bit.

  • wow, nice job. FF in WI

  • if your a firefighter. you are professional.

  • Greatest video on youtube!!! I watch this all the time hopefully one day I will be there at The Rock training with the greatest fireman in the world!! FDNY you rock the rock!

  • proud to be a firefighter whether it be professional or volunteer

  • **Career or volunteer. Were all professionals baby! ;)

  • THis video rocks!!! Im applying for FDNY in 2011. I been working for two different departments in Kentucky and been on the job for three years now. I love every second of it. I have more certs then I know what to do with. Does anyone from FDNY know whats covered in probie school??? Im just wondering to see if its anything like what we go through, lol. I hate having the knowledge of the job and not being able to use it!!!! I have lost so many skills since I am not using them. Its sad!!! Stay safe

  • I'm being quite honest with you, once you get into the academy, you can kiss those cert's goodbye they don't care whether or not you're FF1 / 2 certified etc. When you get into the academy they go over EVERYTHING from engine company operations to truck company operations.

  • even though you get to go home every night from the academy do you have take you turn out gear with you? and after you pass the written is there anything else or you go streight to the academy?

  • After you take the written, if you score high enough and your list number is high enough you'll be called in eventually to take the physical once they hit your list number, then after you take your physical exam (C-PAT) you will then go through your psych etc, and eventually to the rock. I wouldn't get your hopes up too much they're closing 10 - 15 companies down or they're trying to.

  • I have a question for the FDNY guys. Is the training any diff for the ladder/truck co. ff's vs the engine co. ff's or is it the same? And what determines your assignment to a truck vs an engine? Don't mean to ask dumb questions but I work at a small dept with only 4 companies, 3 engine and 1 ladder, and we interchange from shift to shift. Our training was the basics of both functions. FDNY firefighters are awesome. Watching vids about FDNY make me proud to be a firefighter even if we are small.

  • When you go into the academy you learn EVERYTHING both engine company operations as well as truck company operations. Afterwards when you're done with probie school you are assigned to a company. It varies on how you did in the classes etc.

  • Oh ok. Thanks for answering my questions.

  • its probie training. training doesn't end at grad. your company will drill the shit out of you once youre assigned to a house.

  • awsome video,

right! im a uk guy,and have been interested in firefighting for fuck knows how long and know quite abit, can anyone tell me how hard itd be for me to get in?

    thanks!!

  • Can someone tell me what the hours are like at probie school What time you get to go home at night and what time you have to be there in the moring?

  • very long hours, 11 hours. When you get home your tired, then you gotta study.I don't think it's for you, if you gotta ask about the time.7ish-6pm.poeple come 90mins before there tour starts

  • Now I'm curious. Anyone yet decipher the chant at 2:00?

  • I think thy said B13 rocks the rock

  • Thats whats so awesome about Firefighters all over the World. The Bravest people I ever met were Firefighters. Can't wait to get out of the Army and join you. 2013.

  • I'm on my way to medical school but then realized I was really doing it for the money and don't really want to put another 4 years of heavy studying. Anyways I hear the next exam is on 2010 and I graduate june of 2011 with my bachelors. Now I want to really know how long it would take to get the job thinking optimistically if I did superb on the test and am eligible. Thanks a lot any help appreciated greatly.

  • Does the FDNY use fog nozzles at all? All I have ever seen them use is smoothbore.

  • No not really fogs dont have that great of an affect in highrise buildings they turn into giant ovens so useing a fog the water turns to steam right out of the nob

  • So I'm guessing they don't use foam very much either. Yea I can see the steam part of it though. Our instructor steamed us good the other day in a burn.

  • Yeah we have a fog nozzle in the front of the engine,we use it on Rubbish and car fires,we use the solid stream more often, the fog nozzle has a hollow stream, and there have been a few cases where FF's got hurt or they couldn't advance the line because they didn't have enought water

  • You jump on that opertunity to work overtime joey you need 14 collage credits and live in one of the 5 boros of nyc son go to collage you need 4yrs to move up to LT. move to nyc and study for the test and get good grades now while your on the list join fdny ems.

  • they changed it you need 15 collage credits or a full time job for 6 months you could live in 1 of the 5 boros. or Nassau county, Orange county, Putnam county, Rockland county, Suffolk county or Westchester County you still need a collage degree to move to Lt. by passing the test

  • I work in the FDNY we work 10 hour day shifts 14 night you work for 4 days on three off three on four off once a month however we work 24hrs so other duty crews can go to training that day. some companys are short on crews mostly truck companys and they will go out of service for the night of day. generly when you work in

  • Does FDNY work 16 hour shifts cause in houston we work 24

  • what do they say at 1:57-2:01?

i am 16 any tips to start getting ready for the fdny

  • Woo, what a great video! It helps me to review my job and think about the issues beyond the money. (Fireman in Hong Kong) Thanks again.

  • Very Good !

  • amazing video two thumbs up

  • Joseph, in answer to your question, its a long process to get the job. The test is typically only given every 3-5 years, and then roughly 30,000 candidates take it. Only the top 5000 scorers will typically have a chance at the job, if they complete a battery of tests including a background investigation, psych test, physical test, and an exhaustive medical exam. Typically candidates will wait AT LEAST a year and a half for the job, even if they are the very top scorers on the written exam.

  • Hey man, thanks for the video. Been waiting over 2 years for my spot in the academy, and im finally gonna get it come January. Been training my butt off, and when i come home at night, i watch this video to remind me why.

    Thanks a lot.

  • So you passed and everything? man congrats. good luck.

  • why have u been wating so long?

  • congrats man

  • thanks man! but all ive gotten myself to is the starting line! :) cant wait till im on the job.

  • thats got to be the greatest training facility i've ever seen

  • nice 1 man,im hopefully goin in about 2 years,and good luck!

  • where can i find a weighted vest to simulate the 50lb scba?

  • im in class 02 of 2008...yeah its harder than i thought. hangin in there. 6 months of academy aint easy!!! we all gonna make it! nothing like the FDNY!

  • What would be my best chances at the FDNY, because I'm planning on majoring Fire Science and then becoming a paramedic would that be a good chance on getting on the job?

  • that might be helpful once your already on the job but all you need is 15 college credits (or 1 year prior work experience). They will teach you Certified First Responder while in the academy. There is no need to go above that certification unless for side work.

  • But you also need to get a 100 on the written and 100 on the physical, its not an "Application process"

  • NO your chances are 1 out of the other 14000 that take the test

  • More like 30,000 now.

  • I layed the nozzel on the ground at my academy to. but they made me carry it above my head for 2 hours hahaha. keep up the good work congrat and becoming firefighters

  • Yeah didn't figure it would matter much. Everything is different in New York

  • Would you get a higher score if you were already a certified firefighter cause I was thinking about going back and finishing my training.

  • you might get a better score, but they don't care what past experience you have.

  • How many weeks is the academy at the rock?

  • 23 weeks

  • What a great video. I serve with a fire dept in manatoba canada. went to an academy in vermillion alberta. F.D.N.Y is my dream job. total respect for all of your members past and present. the academy looks so intence its no wonder you guys are the best. keep the vid's coming ah.

  • There will always be people ahead of you, but if you study for this entrance exam like any profession you have to score well to get in. If you score really well you will be called first its that simple.

  • what r do u have to do to get in?

  • be able to speak and type fluent English...at least one year college, resident of NYC or surrounding suburb +1 year.

  • So let me get this straight. You take the entrance and exam and it may or may not take them up to 4 years to call you depending on your score, then you go through probie school and if you get through it with high enough scores then you might get ass
