no 7/8 timing? WTF.. that is what makes the song interesting... what they think people will not 'get it'? Feels more natural in 7/8 amazingly enough... cant say that for a lot of pop songs.
I'm wondering if this is the way he originally composed the song and then changed it to 7/8 to make it sound cooler and flow better. Otherwise I don't get, how a person can come up with stuff like this or 5+4 9/8 in I Hung My Head (well, I do, but it does take an awful lot of talent). Sting's the best!
Ok. Enough with the "An error has occurred, please try again." Enough with this non-negotiable wide-screen bullshit so I can't seen any information while watching the vid. New "technology" always seems to evolve into less choice. Fuck Utube. I won't be visiting again anytime soon. And watching a vid on my own channel means I now have to watch an advertisement at the same time. I'm done with this shit. Fuck "UFO" (Meaning "U Fuck Off!) Because that's exactly what they are telling us.
one of my favorite sting song together with let your soul be your pilot and why should i cry for you.sting has this very unique style of blending rock, jazz and other stuff in his music.
Kids these days are all following one persons thoughts of what music they like, i'm 14 and i think kids should listen to music with true brilliant lyrics. Sting is one of the best writers in my opinion. im glad are world is lucky enough to have something so amazing.
lol yea true, although ive akways thought sting has an amazing ability to write songs in weird time signatures in such a way that its almost unnoticable
Sting said in an old interview that he hated this version. I think he was asked by the label to do it (See also the rock mix b-side version of "When We Dance.") You can practically see "contractual obligation" written on his face here.
The most romantic night of my life was on this tour in 1996 at the Pnc bank arts center.Sting pouring rain and the woman I loved.Cowboys junkies opened for him and were decent, but we were there for Sting and was magical that nite.
Same here. I just like the 7/8 arrangement a heck of a lot better. At 1:53 Sting drops an eighth singing "Its course across the sky" just a little early. :D
Then there's the missing a capella intro that sets the mood for the song. Alas, it is missing...
sounds odd. love the 7/8 version much much much better!

...I walked out this morning
It was like a veil had been removed from before my eyes
For the first time I saw the work of heaven
In the line where the hills had been married to the sky
And all around me
Every blade of singing grass
Was calling out your name
And that our love would always last...
Hard to pick just one beautiful section ~ LOVE this song

how do you tell the time of a song. like i know 4/4 is tandard, but how do you tell which it is?
TheUsed291 3 years ago
just find where the phrase repeats, count the eighth notes, 123456789...Really just takes experience, but the 7/8 version is better!
NovaNeolith 3 years ago
Yup, This is so slow and just not right!!
bignose140 3 years ago
for sure, but this 4/4 version has the advantage of different feels with the double time/half time changes around 3:30 onwards.
Ideally, the song should be 7/8, with perhaps a 4/4 chorus thrown in at the end, just for variety.
bentantilles 2 years ago
marvellous!
vinay1mfh 3 years ago
whywhywhy in 4/4? i dont see a single reason...
that rhythm in 7 was the main strong point of the song for me
Cannonbo 3 years ago 2
sounds boring in 4/4 7/8 sounds best in this song
david001002 3 years ago 2
how do you tell the time signature of a song. i mean , i know its beats per measure, but i dont understand the counting of it

the timing on this version makes the song feel restrained...
emilyj1987 4 years ago
It been arranged in 4/4 so the chord phrasere an extra beat longer (8) so it feels a bit stretched if you've heard the original, which is in 7/4
GhostGuitars 4 years ago
yes, i like the original 7/4 version better
andycirish 3 years ago 4
Without the 7/4 vibe the song looses all its charm.

Por dios, que horrible version. Muy maquinosa fea. Esto demuestra que una buena canción puede ser una mierda si no se la produce y arregla bien.

Yes, this is not the original version.
The rhythim metric (I´don know if this is the right term in english) is diferent, in the cd is in 7/8, and in this video is in 8/8.... strange.
