I play that variation myself and gives white sufficient compensation for the pawn. It is also surprising for the opponent because many are not usually prepared for it. A possible variation is ..cxd4, cxd4 Knxd4, Knxd4 Qxd4, Knf3 Qb6, Qa4 and if Be7 Qg4 and black cannot castle because Bh6 follows winning the exchange

@IBOUGHTYAMOM in the french and in any line you want to control the center. It is completely accomplished in that variation. White has many tricks, black has lack of development, very bad light square bishop (compare white and black light square bishop) which compensate the loss of the pawn . If you don't know much about chess you can try learning lines in which you don't have to weigh material imbalances. They are hard to understand(thats what happened to me when I learned how to play chess)
