  • i'm 70kg and i can do 15.

  • To compare (what's the point ;) ), you need to know how much person weights. I weight 100 kg and I can do 7 pullups. So for a person who weights e.g. 60 kg, to be as strong as me (in pullups) he/she would need to add 40 kg extra weights...

  • but they also lose out on the extra muscle you get by weighing more, that's not accurate.

    I have a lot of trouble with pull ups. I find that it requires a lot of bicep/back strength. The irony is that I have no trouble with rowing & sitting pull down exercises (both working the back/biceps) lifitng as much as I weigh! I don't understand why, if I can exercise my biceps/back like this, I should have so much trouble doing regular pull ups. I can barely do 5. some help?

  • the only way to be able to do more pull ups is just to do'em.

    pull ups are the overall best exercise for lats , nothing beat them you can lift your weight in pull downs, but still isn't the same as pull ups,

    try varying grips both with pullups and pulldowns,

    if you have good muscle mass, it means that you don't have strength, try going for less weight and more reps.

    if you train to gain muscle mass, then one week do exercises with low rep - high weight , and the other high rep - low weight.

  • Part of pullups is grip strength. You have very slender forarms compared to your upper arm. I bet if you work your grip with some grippers, it will help you do more pullups. Try chinups next time.

  • Keep in mind she is doing them 100% correctly by letting herself go completely down from the bar and pulling herself up from a dead hang. Lotta people I've talked to always say "I can do like 15!" then I watch and they are going about a foot below the bar...Proper pull up entails a pull up from a dead hanging position.

  • Iam more impressed at her for being able to do 8 perfect deadhang,no momentum pull ups than many smartasses out there that claim to do 20 or more and they halph reping-using momentum etc etc,The fact that she is a girl makes it even more impressive.

  • She is a girl and still she is able to do 8 perfect deadhang no momentum pull ups.This is far more impressive than some fools that claim to do 20 or more with bad form halph reps using momentum and not pausing at the end.Actually only in this and in some other youtube video that i dont remember i have seen perfectly executed chins.Great job.

    Is it ok to do pull ups everyday (not full ROM)?

    Isn't full ROM pull/chin ups is dangerous for the shoulders/rotator cuffs ?

  • Do them everyother day and not every day. Full ROM is not dangerous, but of course you should warm up properly. The only "dangerous" pull-ups are behind the back which is very straining for the shoulders but you can do them without problems by applying a proper warm up and being careful throughout the motion.

  • I love it when a woman keeps her body in great condition, especialy since I'm a fitness freak myself.

    I hope that people realize she may actually be able to do more pull ups, but she's being filmed, and when people are filming they sometimes cut down the amount they do of something for the sake of the vid and time. Regardless if she does 8 or 28 she is strong and doing it the hard way with her hands holding the bar that way. I see some people put their hands the other way and do less.

  • The number of pull-ups one can do is more indicative of muscular endurance than strength. I can do sets of 5 with 70lbs of weight attached, but only 22-23 BW wide grip.

    I can do about 14 pullups for the most. But I have a lot of muscles and I am a guy took me years to be able to do those 14.

    Even when I was fit and lost weight I still could not do more than 6 and even then I was lifting weights. lol

  • I agree with carlotapuig. In alot of your excercises you seem to restrict your breathing, as in hold it for a while then exhale forcefully. I think you should try totally relaxed breathing, no holding, just in slowly and out slowly throughout the whole motion. P.S I think you can do more than eight you are just pretending you can't do anymore.

  • Zuzana, very good form going all the way up and down, however I'm not sure if you are breathing properly. I think you should breath out DURING the pulling up. Alone through proper breathing I guess you would manage 2 more reps. Maybe I'm wrong but my experience is that it's just easier when you breath that way

  • Doing it faster though lowers the intensity your muscles receive. At the top/end of your motion, for a lot of exercises the target muscle gets assisted by other muscles.

    Ex. in a bicep curl when you get almost to the top, the weight is carried by your frame. Whereas half-way up its held up by your biceps so the strain on your bicept is maxed. If you go faster, you spend more time at the top/bottom where there is no strain.

  • Pullups are tough. I have trouble with one or two and I am a man. Oh well, guess i got some work to do, that's all there is to it !

  • If you want to build up to do more pull ups do them in Pyramids. 10 is a respectable # that would look like this:

    1>2>3>4>5>6>7>8>9>10

    9>10>9>8>7>6>5>4>3>2>1

    Zuzana would probably have to only go to 5 if her max is currently 8 but I'd be willing to bet that if she did this for 4-6 weeks her max would go to at least 12.

    Back in the day I could do 18 like she did...now I'd be lucky to do 3...LOL
