@sc1ffyp Greetings back at you! The diesels which you are referring to are the Class 43 HST (High Speed Train). They are 35 years old and run from Inverness/Aberdeen/Edinburgh - London and also from London to Cardiff/Penzance. In this video, they are operated by East Coast. Anything else about them you want to know, just ask! :)
@sc1ffyp I dont know but it would have to of been a straight enough section of track cus they cannot tilt like the super voyagers and pendolinos but that HST speed record was set a while ago the new one in the UK is set by The class 373 Eurostar which reached 208mph on a test run and there about 18 cars long International trains that link France and Belgium to the UK via the channel tunnel and run on the high speed one line in the UK
@suncoolclose I am asking that merely because there's a huge difference between such a test being run with the locomotive alone and the same locomotive with a couple of carriages. So I suspect that the diesel unit was tested alone, because of the tilting problem you already mentioned. Anyway, that would be the wisest way to do it, since then the loco can be easily compared to it's 'competitors'.
Wow! I was born in stevenage, lived in knebworth now living in peterborugh! Thank you, best video so far!! :)

Greetings from Baltic states! These British trains are truly great! I especially liked diesels (those with a loco at each end).

@CeTrains thanks! Yes, I got a few questions:
1) power of a diesel unit (in kW or hp)
2) constructional speed
3) what is the speed limit at this station
4) what is the length of a carriage here? I wanna calculate the speed :)
sc1ffyp 11 months ago
@sc1ffyp
1. 1680 kw
2. Constructional Speed = 125mph
3. 125mph
4. 23 meters
Happy calculating :)

@sc1ffyp The class 43 HSTs has also reached 148mph on a test run fastest diesel powered train in the world
suncoolclose 11 months ago
@suncoolclose how many carriages and of what total mass the locomotive was pulling, when the record of 148mph was set?

@sc1ffyp I'm sure it had some coaches with it, but not entirely sure how many. Will see if I can find out.
