My Little Plot is to find a way to make allthe first four books of the New Testament into a series about the life of Christ. Four consequtive films in the different visions of Jesus life. Any Ideas.
The Catholic church tried to explain Jesus to me in Sunday school. Boring. Then I saw this movie, the scene where Jesus turns away the angry mob by saying let he who is without sin...etc. that clinched it for me.
i think this is just the rest of the story about jeseus after he was born until i saw mary and joseph get married then i new this is just about how jeseus was born and ya but i love this movie
Caution... this is NOT the original opening from the miniseries. There's an added stretch of strings in the middle of this opening here (1:24 to 1:53) that literally kills it. Cuts the dramatic power in half. Notice the drums coming in at 1:53... they are supposed to come in 30 seconds earlier! Trust me, it matters!

@MYDRAGGIN84 I have read the Bible. The Gospels were written well after Jesus died by people who never met him or even lived in the area. No-one before them ever mentioned the place. There are no existing non-biblical references to Nazareth until around 200 AD - even though we have hundreds or Roman and Jewish documents from the time. No archaeological remains from Nazareth can be dated back before 200AD either, despite extensive excavation. Read "Myth of Nazareth: The Invented Town of Jesus".
@EqualAndFree In fairness, Nazareth did exist, but it was not a major settlement. It's generally thought by archaeologists that the reason it is not mentioned in contemporaneous accounts is because it was considered to be of little importance to the society of the area.

Yes, it's possible that it was such a small place that nothing survives either in the ground or in the written records (inc the Old Testament, Talmud, writings of St Paul and contemporary geographers and local administrators). Archaeologists are generally uncertain and many are fairly doubtful. The book "The Myth of Nazareth" covers a lot of this.

In order to cooperate with one another we must abide by certain standards i.e. not killing each other, not stealing from each other, and so on. We can be good people without religion. Hey I was born in Nazareth! After moving to the United States when I was five, the Christians asked where were I was from and I told them Nazareth. They all were shocked but yet fascinated.
Who was born on December 25th from a virgin and used whine and bread as symbols for his blood and body & was resurrected after three days? (don't be deceived; this question isn't that easy; research it and tell me who it is). In other words, Christianity is unoriginal.

The Bible does not say the actual date He was born. and having bread and wine representing life and blood.....that's the main thing they ate back then. wine and bread were the two most common foods for feasting. that is why Jesus used those two examples. Bread was important for everyday living and wine was chosen because the only other drink was water. do your research........

He's just an actor, but he did such an amazing job on this movie that it would be a bummer to know that he's an atheist. But you know, it could very well be true. Let us remember that Easter is the name of a pagan fertility goddess. Let us remember the true meaning of Easter.. which IS about dying eggs in sacrificed 3 month old babies as a fertility rite. It was released in 1977. Franco Zerrirelli, the director, did an amazing job. The casting is superb, the acting magnificent. I believe this is the best film ever produced about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Even the attention to detail is superb. John the Baptist was about the same age as Jesus, yet most films portray him as much older. Michael York is magnificent as John.
I have the DVD. What gets me about this adaptation on the life of Jesus Christ is how riveting the music is. So commanding & haunting that it brings a chill to your spine. It's majestic in its scope.

I wish Hollywood would make more Biblical epics, as they did, say in the 1950s. But that ain't gonna happen: Too many unbelievers there now.

TO all the atheist: God exists. Simply observe the universe and what do you see? You see order and genius. It's much like a clock where every part has a particular purpose and nothing is placed in random. If you say the universe was created by a series of random events, then you are statistically illogical for nothing out of random can produce a system of seemingly infinite complex systems. Morality comes from the understanding that humans are sociable creatures. In order to cooperate with one another we must abide by certain standards i.e. not killing each other, not stealing from each other, and so on. We can be good people without religion. Religion actually has done more harm than providing benefits i.e. the crusades, Spanish inquisition, the holocaust, and 911 to name a few religious atrocities.

The Bible does not say the actual date He was born. and having bread and wine representing life and blood.....that's the main thing they ate back then. wine and bread were the two most common foods for feasting. that is why Jesus used those two examples. Bread was important for everyday living and wine was chosen because the only other drink was water. do your research........

That is the makings of a cult. Sinners are saved when they understand they have sinned before God, and Jesus has paid for their sin on the Cross. @moguy200979 Well, this was/is my all time favorite movie about the life of Jesus, and I don't know....it would be a disappointment to me if that were to be true about Powell. He's just an actor, but he did such an amazing job on this movie that it would be a bummer to know that he's an atheist. But you know, it could very well be true. The woman that portrayed the Virgin Mary on Passion of the Christ is Jew, so you never know. It happens. We just get so enthusiastic about the movies/characters

They omitted the odd verse here and there in the new testament that undermined the teaching of Jesus and his life.

It was released in 1977. Franco Zerrirelli, the director, did an amazing job. The casting is superb, the acting magnificent. I believe this is the best film ever produced about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Even the attention to detail is superb. John the Baptist was about the same age as Jesus, yet most films portray him as much older. Michael York is magnificent as John.

I have the DVD. What gets me about this adaptation on the life of Jesus Christ is how riveting the music is. So commanding & haunting that it brings a chill to your spine. It's majestic in its scope.

hey i live in illinois n i jus wanted to say has ne one seen this movie on tv cuz i member them playin it in the big networks then they took em off and the church network used to play it but now it seems i cnat fiind it anywhere n this iz one fo the movies my family has watched over the years as a tradition..
