Great to see this - it was indeed the 1982 Cambridge Folk Festival and I was there. Have some photos in the attic I think. This is from the BBC footage
I saw this band many times. Now they were very happy times. Melanie Harrald - wonderful singer and a delightful person. Check the great Manly Footware (a.k.a. B.J. Cole) on pedal steel.
I recall Melanie's appearances in our Folk-Club (Rhyl / Bee) when she played with Ollie B on bass. I had the pleasure of joinging her and Ollie for their final song at more than one concert. Melanie's an utterly fabulous singer and her control and passion is legendary. Keep on keeping on, Melanie.... love always, Alun
I must say, I am a huge fan of Linda Ronstadt and while I believe she is one of the greatest singers ever, I have to admit that this singer and version of this song is GREAT. It goes to show that someone who is not as well known can outshine the more famous among us.
Used to be married to a lovely guy and lived in London in the 1980's. We used to go every week to see this group - brought back some happy memories - still think about you Rod, as you know xx
We used to go Hanking it to the Half Moon in Putney. Brilliant nights. The band we saw was Hank and Irma, Brad Breath, Manley Footwear, dammit can't remember the drummers name. Thanks for the memory. Any chance of some more and perhaps a Glimpse of Gloom from Hank?
No. Radio W.A.N.G was presented as an Opry type live radio show, with Bobby smoking nervously before the On-Air light went on. It came complete with dancers and guests. It came after CHAPS.
I went once to the Hackney Empire to see the Wangfords but that was billed as the 'Grand Ole Opry' night. Radio WANG was the show they toured round the country - I even saw it in the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
Incidentally Kylie, Los Pistoleros are the heirs to the old Wangford band (apart from the Lost Cowboys of course). Search for Pistoleros Sweet Temptation (vidoed yesterday!). Btw, whatever happened to Hank's fan club?
He always had the finest sidemen too, didn't he? Melanie was brilliant! Saw them a few times at the Mean Fiddler in its early days ..... .... oh my! Nearly 25 years ago now. The clip of Hank with Reg Meuross at Rudry Village Hall is saddening when you think of some of the killer line-ups he used to front. But this clip is great!!! Thanks for the memory ....
Hello mtvsselles, I appreciate your point but to be fair to Hank at the village hall it was a packed out gig, and a brilliant low key evening, it is different to the band gigs, but everyone left the hall very happy, and the great sound didn't come over on my small digital camera. I wish I'd seen them in the Mean Fiddler too though.
fab singing i saw hank back in the mid 80s in paddington and they were superb.mot heard melanie b4 but she has a top voice ..best wishes steve

If she's selling one of those puppys, I'll have the one with the brown nose.

Did you see Irma at the Half Moon last night 05/10/07)? Long awaited and all too brief reunion with Hank. Tearjerking.

Truly truly wonderful. A copy of the setlist has appeared on Hank's wikipedia page...

I was a regular at the Pegasus, Green Lanes in the 80's, Hank's Hall of Pain. Fantastic memories.

So hard to find info/pics of the old Pegasus. Just seems to have disappeared.

Note that their Half Moon gig on the 5th of October appears to be a one-off return for Irma as Reg is away again.

This brought back happy memories of the "Hanky goes to Holyrood" tour back in the early 1980s. Whatever happened to Cissy Footwear?

You're not thinking of CHAPS at the Theatre Royal Stratford, are you?
