@DANGTHATSUCKS hahaha nice i want a 2jz 240 so bad but i also want an fd rx7 so well see what happens, i love bikes but ill get killed on one i dont trust myself lol
@sofargone561 Haha true. They are dangerous. Fd's are real nice but everyone I talk to that has one they always complain about how they end up smoking real bad???
@DANGTHATSUCKS ya i bike is something i love and respect but dear a little to much to buy maybe if i live in the moutains somewhere but not in Florida ya i hear a lot of negatives i just love the look but i cant have both it will either be 2jz 240 or rx7 and as far as this economy goes the 2jz is better for so many different reason and 240sx is a dime a dozen in south fla so thats another plus but hey a 2jz 240sx is still something special hahaha
Does anyone know where the 240's were built? were they actually made in Japan or were they built in one of the US plants? I've looked all over the internet and nothing really has a straight answer.
The 240SX (200SX and 180SX in Japan), were assembled in Japan. It wouldn't surprise me if the KA24E engine used in those cars was cast in Mexico though.
I've heard that they were assembled in Kyushu, Japan. I doubt that Nissan had a manufacturing plant in Mexico during that period, but I could be wrong.
I am pretty sure that the Tida is currently assembled in Mexico.
It is 'ultra uber super reliable' at 600hp; provided you use the right conrods, studs, bearings and pistons. SR20DET is one of the strongest 4 cyl blocks out there.
At 1200 HP it is only logical to imagine that the engine would be torn down and inspected after every run. At 600 HP it would be a different story; Pretty much first time, every time (provided it is built right). Lets not forget that a big V8 can take 600HP, yet it has an almost identical big end to a 4 cyl motor..
BTW, The SR20 has oil jets, a crank girdle and many other features that make it one of the toughest 4 cyl engines.
I beg to differ. Hills Motorsport have built an S15 that has been running 575 RWHP for ever. It is a daily driver too.
Yes, a high displacement V8 is less stressed than a conventional 4 cyl motor - but that is because there is a larger space between bores - so the journals can be made stronger. With an SR, the crank is held in with a girdle which adds considerable reinforcement.
The CA18 is a terrible engine compared to an SR20. Just look at the specs for each.
na, bet they change all the gaskets on it weekly etc Also it will be running a big turbo which is where ALL the power is coming from.
Essentially V8s are 2x inline-4s, and are bigger thats why they make more power it's not the space between the bores.
CA has an iron block, SR is aluminium. CA also has a direct action valve train and SR doesn't. CA is basically an RB engine with 2 cylinders chopped off, they stopped making it as it cost too much.
Concerning the SR20, the whole engine is aluminium - therefore thermal expansion between components remains relative. This means that an SR is unlikely to blow a head gasket. In contrast, the CA has an iron block with an aluminium head. Headgasket failures are common.
By the way, the SR has a better valve-train, IMO - The hydraulic followers found on the CA get very noisy after a while.
BTW, dont get me wrong, the CA isn't a bad engine.
Iron is stronger but anyway I like both, however because I have a ca18det at the moment it's my favourite! You have to change the oil regularly though, maybe the big ends...
I also think the CA suits the little S13 better, fast reving, old skool boosting and for the price of a bag of peanuts you can hit 60 in under 6 seconds and nudge 150mph! You don't really need more for the road.
I don't think the 1.8 CA would work in an S14/S15 though, they're heavier, newer and Id hope better designed.
I like the CA because it is revvy, but the SR is the way to go if you want to make huge power. Infact, I cant find one single justification for using the CA. If you want to have a cast iron block, just use an FJ20...
BTW, the mods found on a 700HP CA would get an SR up to at least 1000 HP. I've found that all CA owners try and talk down SR's; but CA owners are just full of shit. Hahaha.
@Energonorama it all depends on how the engine is built. if it has a forged rotating assembly, metal headgasket, lower compression ratio, higher flow oil pump and water pump, cams, valves, valve springs, stage 3 or higher clutch, beefy tranny, then you got a recipe for high horsepower in any engine.
240's are just a good drift platform, goods specs on the chassis and fairly cheap to build, There ARE cars that are better for drifting, but in order to build a that car up you need to give a arm and a leg, and maybe your left nut too...lol
its more then just a drift platform anything thats rwd pretty much is good the reason i say its more then a drift platform is cuase u got guys droping in rb25 and rb26 engines and v8s so really u can do anything with that car
Whats with the KA and Sr and RB fight? Forget all of them and drop the 2J in that sucker

Do you know if that's true of the hatch and coup or just the hatch?

yeah the 200 and 180sx's were all japaneese made. but the u.s. 240 was mexican made. i did a deep research before i bought my s13 :)

love to see someone stop at 400bhp and make it ultra uber super reliable so you could safely abuse it

scrfce123 2 years ago
I dunno... that's a 200% increase in power!
Energonorama 2 years ago
There are SR20 blocks out there that can handle a 500% increase in power. We're talking 1200 HP here!
scrfce123 2 years ago
yeah but when you say "handle" do you really mean 'will work a few times and then blow up'?
Energonorama 2 years ago
At 1200 HP it is only logical to imagine that the engine would be torn down and inspected after every run. I doubt 600bhp sr20dets last more than a year with moderate use. That's 300bhp per litre, virtually the same as an F1 engine!
600bhp V8s have double the cylinders and probably triple the displacement (~6litres) they've got to be less stressed than an SR.
I like the ca18det better anyway!

isnt it a rb25 /26 ??? a sr20 at 600 hp it whould be kinda dumb to spend 15 k on sr when you can put 5k on a rb's to get the same amount of hp !
Tommy8627 3 years ago
no its an sr20
nissanisledgend 3 years ago
yea man he's right it is a sr20 but you probaly would be spending 15k for an rb26 with engine + labor + parts to make it 600hp
estar334 3 years ago
Yeah but what happens when you break something parts arent cheap for rb26 and it will take awhile for new parts to get to the us...
nitrousboy0311 3 years ago
Also another key point to consider between the engine differences is that the sr is a much lighter engine than the rb..
