One suggestion. The base of machine is made of plywood and all marbles make extra sound by hitting it. It generates an ambient noise that weakens the effect of the sounds boards (like xylophone that has similar sound pattern). I suggest the base should be made of something softer and less acoustic. Other then that it's amazing!
At 0:40 I understood what you meant about the peice of wood keeping the marbles in place from falling out of the holes in the gear, but over time, wouldn't the marble holding side (the one that we can't see) slowly get worn away from friction?
Or is there an indent for the marble to prevent jams?
Part of the reason I invented the elevating wheels was to avoid jams. The input to the marble pump sometimes jams, but the wheels, cranked the right speed, are very jam free. Only problem is if cranked too fast, marbles may not get out of the holes fast enough at the top.
What makes the xylophone boards...xylophoney? They are just wood right. In other words what causes them to make the plink sound--loosely screwed? You may have answered this in another vid.
Once I get my shop setup again, I think I need to buy these plans and give it a shot. Looks like alot of fun to build, and alot of fun for everyone, especially my kids to play with.
How much would it cost for the plans and could you make one for me if I pay you because I am only 13. Thanks

@Matthiaswandel Would you be willing to make one for me if so how much?
TechInSight11 2 months ago
Too much. Sorry. Takes too much time to make, so costs too much to buy.

After a few thousand hours of continuous cranking, yes. But the rest of the machine would be worn out well before that.

@Matthiaswandel Good point. It's a good thing you made these videos if you will ever need to make a replacement in the near future. ;]

That's amazing. I could barely see any jams, misfeeds or feeding faliures.

Have you ever thought of building a full xylophone or marimba?

That sounds very chaotic, like a hail storm. Very cool to watch and listen work.

Hi, I'm curious to how difficult it is to crank? i.e. would a small child be able to work the machine easily?

Do you get any jams, e.g. with the lifting wheels?

M you are one of my few hero's. Brilliant!

Why is this so interesting to me? Maybe it's a hold over from the marble games I loved as a child. Remember the game Avalanche? or Mousetrap?

Great job as usual thanks.

Just the wood itself. Most pieces of wood about that shape, if loosely held, will make a plink sound when struck.

A wood-burned logo or your name would be a nice touch.
A chip carver could really decorate it well.
