Anis saved my life in more ways then I could ever explain.. I found him 2 years ago after some pretty bad stuffs had happened and he made me believe again.
I randomly clicked on this link one night and sat for the next hour, re-watching and re-watching this with tears streaming down my face. And the pain started leaving my body like never before. Thank you, sir, for everything.
i cant remember last time a poet REALLY moved me, but i have been watching this guy all day, and i just want to share it, i want everyone i know and like too see this, i want them all to feel like i do right now. I feel like a better person for watching this.
he is a good poet, i liek his stuff but i just dont get his delivery sometimes, the writing is amazing just not sold on his performance, amazing work though.
also ur heart beats ALOT more than 900 times a day
Don't get me wrong, I love Anis' poetry immensely. BUT, I wince every time he says that the human heart beats 900 times a day. I'm no cardiologist, but I'm pretty sure its closer to 100,000 beats a day.
@EWKrinkel He realises this, in other readings he says 100,000 times. His message is that the heart beats so many times a day. By saying 900 you think - 'wait, my heart beats even more than that. My heart - it beats thousands upon thousands'. For if his poem meant what it meant, it would not be intriguing.
man who is this person is he really a person every time i listen to him a thrill just run down my whole body giving me a shiver, making me feel ,making me think, making me listen to wht is not said ,making me to do wht i havn't done !!!!!!
this poem, among others, has inspired me to write stuff myself for the first time. /watch?v=NRRqJZMPs8Q
I did this in front of like six-hundred people, which I never could have done before the inspiration I got from this video. Thank you Anis for your gift to me.
Anis personifies God... Why can't we learn poetry like this in school? I just started getting into this stuff, anyone have recommendations of poets half as good as this guy?
He has a new book called the Feather Room coming out in a few months. You can look up stuff on his label - Write Bloody. You might want to start with the two people he tours with on the revival; Derrick Brown and Buddy Wakefield.
I love his poetry, his delivering of his poems raises the hair on the back of my neck.
But for christ sake, I wish the crowd would shut.the.fuck.up. I don't utter a word until this video has finished, they're not taking it in, what are they there for?
@boynameddavid They are interacting with him - an added pleasure or attending a competition like this, which I assume also influences the judges decisions. The beatniks used to shout out a lot and snap their fingers for applause during readings/performance and it's still popular.
@kingericio Yes, exactly. Right on! I downloaded any/all of the videos I have found of him and listen to them on my ipod as if they were music. It's beyond his poetry. He IS poetry. His voice itself is so poetic. I have been so inspired by him.
3:26. "We once went to bed like between the bedsheets there was a giant valley of dinosaurs still breathing, and how we capture these triceratops es and brontosauruses, but even they were opened up with the smoke that rose out of the homes and the corners that we once climbed through, the streets and the footballs which we once threw, the school desks upon which we once drew, the windows that sat open through which we once flew..." 3:52.
3:13. "We wanted to be 13 and alive and, meet a girl that was 13 and alive and, walk with her past the grandstands to sit and hold hands with, the sit and kiss with, to sit and sip with, like it was something that you would miss, but that never was." 3:25.
Not to contradict you, but of all the people who watched this video, it's not just 35 of them who need to shake the dust. Just because you hear Anis' words, know that they're true and want to take them to heart doesn't mean that you can. Actually breaking free is no easy feat.

"a direct order to rock the fuck out?" where is the fucking rock n roll? All i see is a hipster who thinks he's got soul. make music! this is just a conversation with yourself in front of an audience. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
@raymarkhamyarsongs Are you trying to say he doesn't have soul? you think to have soul you need to be wailing on a guitar like Slash and Jimmy? Fuck off buddy. grow up.
I like how all the negative comments about his poetry are marked invisible or marked as spam. I honestly do not understand this guy's appeal. I find it kinda pretentious. But everyone can have their own opinion. This kinda stuff is really subjective.
@bltrnnicole first of all...your constant insults towards my opinions are unnecessary. secondy... i said nothing about him rocking out. i'm a fan of literature, i can comprehend what his intent is. i'm just not a big fan of new poetry i guess. i think music is a higher more expressive form of art, and i'm entitled to my opinion. it's obvious we don't agree. leave it at that and leave the insults towards me, someone you don't know, out of it. cheers.
