Or you can do it the military way.....throw the curtain in the washer w/hot water and some Gain. So people may think that is gross too. But it works great, even on some nasty curtains.

@bayoubay21 Anything done the military way is going to be better. Especially if you can work duct tape in there and sharp implements.
