@Ecw4Lyfe there is no probably about it. IT will knock you off your feet. I know first hand. Launched me 8ft I would guess. Into wild rose bushes. Had it hit 10ft over my head. Knocked me unconscious for a little bit. I had pinhole sized burn marks in my t-shirt from the bark of the tree. The storm was still quite aways away too. Sun was just starting to be blocked by it.

Yikes! Good thing that tree didn't go off like a bomb, as it's been known to happen (search Google Images for tree lighting exploded , and you'll see some truly frighting pictures of what can happen to trees that are hit by lightning)

This must have been another stroke from the main channel that hit your house. The thunder before it was probably from other branches of the bolt farther away before this one came down and fried all your circuitry.

The strike happened around 5:15 p.m. (even though it looks really dark outside). The camera i used is 100% manual everything, so when I took off the lens cap, I didn't notice the f-stop was set to f16. I had almost no time to make corrections using a flash meter, as it happened so fast!

I had over $4,500 worth of damage, so it definitely hit the house. It blew out a color TV, a Mac G4 computer, a stove, washing machine, a pro-quality 16-channel audio mixing board, a DVD recorder, and more. It also fried the entire cable TV wiring all through the house. The reason you don't actually see it hitting the house is because I was shooting at 24 frames rather than 60 frames.

Our sweet Border Collie mix, Abby, was out in the porch with me. The concussion was so powerful, we were both knocked backwards on our butts. I'd say it took two or three minutes to really register what had happened. There was no warning, so it was almost as if someone tossed a small nuclear device at us.
