  • benny greb is one of a kind

  • what kind of hihat stand is it - it looks special

  • This guys like a drum samurai!

  • @carder6821 Sorry man. I dont know the link. I got it from my friend

  • In a world where almost every well known drummer is a slave to this technique "arms race". Here comes Benny and shows us that ..................man..........musicality is king

  • Wow that groove was so fat at 0:35

  • i like his crash it's so dry!!

  • this is how i would imagine Jesus playing drums.

  • Huge sounding kit, and impeccable playing, as always from Benny.

  • Obvious trolls are obvious

  • travis barker is better

  • @Wowurgaylol If you want to be an annoying asshole and troll, couldn't you at least find something a little less cliche than Travis Barker?

  • @Wowurgaylol I didn't even realize it was you. Do you have a life? Faggot.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX ur mom does

  • @Wowurgaylol Ok so now you are basically complimenting me? You seriously need to reconsider your entire life.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX oh yeah? well ur fat

  • @Wowurgaylol XD you've got the be the worst troll I've ever seen. You act like I haven't been called fat before.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX oh yeah? well idk

  • This guy is a hippie n00b.

  • este wey parece profesor de yoga XD

  • he is so genius :)

  • best drummer of germany! best drummer of europe! best drummer of the world!

  • AT 1:45 what type of hi hat is that?

  • @rpga00 My guess is it's two crashes (like what Thomas Pridgen does). No idea what kind of crashes though.

  • @number1drummerman lol, thanks, had no idea :D

  • i could listen to 0:36 - 0:50 all day

  • does any one know what kind of hi hats hes using at the end

  • @studiousstoner they are 18'' crash cymbals that he put together as hi hats

  • @bonisboy don't think it's for beginners :P

  • JESUS!! I knew you'd come back!!

  • that was a fucking hippie dvd, but very good!!

  • how big is that fucking hi hat at the end eh?!

  • @aero105 20"

  • I first saw this dvd from my friend. he downloaded it through torrent site. After a while i stop the player and go to a music store near our house, I realize that this DVD is worth buying, it is a treasure, i'm not a drummer, i'm a guitarist, but Benny Greb's advices are amazing. One thing I can say, He is the man..

  • @jakelights can you send me the link plz.....>?

  • I think he needs bigger hi-hats :|

  • I think the hats are 18" crashes.

  • i'm going for that kind of crash-hat ;)

  • Those are some monster hi-hats... O-o

  • For me, this is THE BEST DRUM DVD EVER, EEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!

    Benny is my hero!

  • The London Drum Show will be great with Benny Greb there... I can't wait.

  • looks just like the guy from whitest kids you know

  • Man, listen to all of his vids... his drum sound is phenomenal.

AND, it can't all be Sonor... what touch. Terrific.

  • BUY THE DVD! I've seen a lot of drum videos. This one stands out for it's balance of information, practicality, and entertainment value!

  • besides "Steve Jordan - The Groove Is Here" I never think I've seen anything like this! Amazing video, completely brilliant system, and relating EVERY part of it to language?! HOLY MOLEY, THAT'S JUST WOW!!!

  • @Doooba123 relating rhythms to language is one of the oldest methods of leaning to play a percussion instrument and is how tabla players in india learn to play.

  • @dudemon321 it's just that I was never taught this method, and I see that I've learned a huge repetoire of "Can you show me the way to the trainstation?"-grooves/licks/fills and so on... Therefore I found this very helpful ;)

  • i'd love to see him and thomas lang duke it out

  • It's terrific!

  • What kinda hihat is that at 1:43 byz Meinl what size, dry or something hats?

  • @kentsmedblom 16 inch hats there. dry byzance hats. Pretty much two 16 inch crashes stacked as a hat.

  • @Jaythedrummerman

I'm jealous, they have such a gorgeous sound.

  • охуэнно!

  • Dear god, can anyone tell me what snare he's playing at 3:38?

That's exactly the sound I'm looking for.

  • @JuIsTheLaw haha, the video only goes for 2:20

  • @igeebs hahaha woops my bad, I meant 0:38. Anyway, I found it myself, it's a Sonor SQ2 Vintage Beech snare. Shame I can't find any sold separately, I can only find them as part of the entire SQ2 kit...

  • You can make other snares sound very similar. Just tune them low and flat, but don't expect them to sound just like that without the microphone and signal processing. Good luck!

  • Does he mention tuning or anything in the dvd? Cheers

  • ..can you learn from this dvd? I strongly dislike the dvd's that you pay $40 for and they just show-off the whole time.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC

The answer is yes. I watched about 20 min. of this DVD at Guitar Center and it is very easy to follow. A couple of the drummers at my church have it and I plan on buying it for my students.

  • Great! Thank you bud.

  • cough cough Shed sessionz lol

  • This is definitely one of the more practical packages I've picked up. He spends a lot of time showing really simple and easy exercises that can be as hard as you want them to be also. He also shows some new ways (for me) to look at soloing and using drum tones to compliment what you play. For the 40+ drum DVD's on my shelf, this one got the most plays for sure.

    Cheers,

    -S

  • wierd HH @ 1:50, not a bad sound, very washy

  • @rcacad ... look at the size of those beasts ... as far as the sound ... i think it is awesome ... I am getting tired of the hi pitched " chick " sound from normal hi hats ... those dark , huge meinl`s he uses are gorgeous

  • @sweetfly66 definantly fitting for his grooves. Not a bad sound at all. Gets points for originallity.

  • Two 18" crash cymbals. Sweet.

  • hey someone who knows the soundtrack that plays between 0:08 - 0:36 ??? :P

  • @stefanakias Hey it's off his CD, Grebfruit. drums 'n' voice

  • I believe its a track he has called GrebFruit. Benny did all the vocal on it not sure bout the guitar solo.

  • Yes it's the last song on his myspace ;)

  • 0:50 - UGH (in a good way)!

  • i have this dvd and its good, but the one all drummers should buy is the jojo mayer dvd, he strips everything down and its all there to learn if you have the time and patience with yourself, the best tuition dvd ever.

  • i keep hearing that.

  • which DVD? he has a few

  • I love the Rosanna Shuffle at 0:36

  • @drummakid101 Is that really a Rosanna Shuffle? It just sounds like hes playing 3 note grouping on his bass drum over a regular drum groove. And do you know whats the difference between the Purdie Shuffle and the Rosanna Shuffle?

  • @JoseVillaDrums

Actually when Jeff Porcaro created the "Rosanna Shuffle" with Toto he thought of two simple grooves. He thought of Bernard Purdie's Shuffle on a Steely Dan cut and John Bonham's shuffle in the song "Fool in the Rain". Then he just put the two together.

If you actually listen to the Rosanna Shuffle you can hear Jeff put a Bodiddly figure, which is like a quarter-note triplet, and makes the groove sit more on the backbeat. That little bodiddly figure is missing in Bernard's.

  • @drummakid101 Oh I understand now, Thanks for the Info Man.

  • Can anyone tell me if the DVD is good? I love him as a player and find him very innovative but I got a John Blackwell DVD and thought it was shit

  • @DumsPlease this is a really good dvd if you like bennys style then definetly get it you will be amazed at what the guy can do im totally in awe of his talent and technique and think you will be aswell if you buy it

  • Cheers brah

  • no this is like benny greb how to play drums from begginer

  • I own it, actually found it very very good, has a good method for counting , maybe for beginners, but found it very useful. Very good exercises and tips, great extras, I think it is the best drumming method I found, you know along with Gavin's DVDs :P . I do recommend it. Cheers

  • its a fantastic dvd that explains perfectly the mastermind that benny is. it is certainly for beginners because it illustrates and demonstrates the most practical way to approach drumming with an complete freedom. so for me, a 10 year drummer now, i have to start over from the beginning to learn a new way of drumming. sooo good man, sooo good.

  • that beat at 0:36 rules

  • What "crash hats" are those? 18" Meinl Byzance dark crashes?

  • @madmax875 It is called "Thrash-Hat" and they are his signature X-Hats from Meinl.

  • @MasterMcFranzChuch the hi hats at 1:42? those are 18" Extra Dry Thin Crashes (Top hat for sure)

  • well, the top is a Meinl Byzance extra dry 18" thin crash for sure. The bottom...I'm guessing is an 18" Byzance Jazz Extra Thin Crash (because that's the other 18" crash in his setup)

  • You are right, in one chapter he tells about different sounds you can get with your drum set, and making this kind of tricks he gets it.

  • anyone know the song at the beginning? sounds real funny.

  • lol watch his face at 0:39 when he hits the snare

  • It's the groove's effect, mane.

  • the toms and bass drum are beech vintage thin shells

  • the snare is 13 x 6 sq2 birch wood thin vintage shells

  • man, 0:31 and 1:31 . very nice grooves

  • does any one know what snare is he using on this very video?

  • maybe sonor SQ2

  • Thanks buddy

  • looks on his website it tells you everything he uses including the sizes

  • Benny Greb is doing a clinic at our store in Portland Oregon November 17, 2009. Free passes to anyone on our email list. Hope to see you there. Benny Rocks! -Rhythm Traders.

  • looks like the guy from wkuk

  • Looks like a good DVD.............

  • If there's one guy who can make drums sound good, it has got to be Mr. Benny Greb. One of my favorites.

  • This guy is Amazing

  • Your Moment of Zen...

  • What Is The Size Of The Big hi-hat or they are 2 crashes? Awesome , I Love Big Hi Hats..........

  • Buy this DVD. It's incredible.

  • @asethapart it is AWESOME huh

  • @asethapart ... incredible because it was entertaining or incredible because of the results you`ve seen in your own playing ?

  • @asethapart i got the dvd a few months ago and the practice techniques he teaches have help me a whole creatively as a drummer, he amazing, is there anything he cant do!?!?

  • i love the song at the end.

  • Then you must hear the soundtrack from the movie "Underground" by Goran Bregovic!!!

  • damn i wanna be a fucking hippy drummer!!!!!!!!!!

  • he's an hippy!

  • bad grammar

  • His native language is German. I would say he has very good grammar considering how hard of a language english is to learn.

  • yeah, 'cause english is his second language

  • i meant flippaton

  • an hippy that kicks ass lol

  • that kit sounds stunning

  • what kinda snare is that, i love it !!!

  • sonor 13 inch

  • i just saw him live

  • lol last song. benny rules period.

  • Whoa lol... Lovin' the stacked dark crashes he is using as a HH @ 1:44. One of my favorite drummers when it comes to pure groove and feel. There are so many small things you can pick up in benny's vids that are easy to do and make your grooves sound amazing!

  • uh well you know those are not crashes..... they are the unique Paiste anniversary cymbals ... with a metallic finish lol but other i agree with you you gotta love them and benny

  • there meinl cymbals not paiste

    hes endorsed by meinl

  • whoa! its jesus! go figure he'd kick ass at drums.

  • he is a master of the drumset i jus got his dvd today and some of the exercises were a challenge he understands the technical theoretical view of the drumset He is AWESOME I plan on masterin his DVD by the end of this summer

  • oh shit you are the master

  • who's toms actually sound that good !?

  • Sonor toms. They usually sound pretty amazing...

  • Benny, Jojo Mayer and even Steve Smith use Sonor, and I recognize those drums are sounding just great under all circumstances and aspects and throu the different styles... They at Sonor almost got me convicted, the only trouble they have with me is that I still prefer the sound of my old vintage Ludwigs ;D

But again, full respect to Sonor

  • And Danny Carey!!

  • Don't understand why thumb down, really.

I did not mention Danny Carey along with Greb, Mayer and Smith because in my opinion he's not at their heights, but saying this I just mean I don't like him that much, not that he's not that good... it doesnt make any sense this way. Likes matter you know

  • OOHHHH MEIN GOTT die DVD ist hammer !!!!

  • I saw him live and I got to meet him :]

He is absolutely amazing, so glad I took the chance to see him.

    :3

  • what is that like a 16 inch hi-hat? (1:42)

  • THis hihat is nothing else two Meinl dry dark crashes 16" on a hihat-stand...

    sounds amazing...cool efect!

  • actually, they are two 18" crashes stacked. he uses the 18" thats above his rack tom.

  • like thomas pridgen.

  • Damn! What a groove!

  • The DVD is great!!

  • Benny Greb; GrooveMaster..!!

  • good fucking sound sonors are beast

  • Yep... that big snare in the beginning sounds so wicked. Go sonor!

  • What?

  • pearl?!

    hahaha

  • This DVD is one of the best out there. Learn how to play music, not licks.

  • i reckon 18" thats mad

  • 1:50 hi hats are hugeeeee 16"??

  • That are 2 crash cymbals as hi hat

  • yeah I have this DVD XD in that bit he talks about hi-hats and says he likes to make "crash hats" and uses his two 18" crashes as hats, and then does the same with "splash hats" XD using a bell and a splash as hi hats, its really funny :D

  • Yeah, I was gonna say...mine are 15", and those look a hell of a lot bigger :P

  • Just got this DVD the other day in the mail. There are ridiculous technical drummers out there like Thomas Lang that can do anything with any limb in combination with any arrangement. This is my response: who cares?!

This DVD will cement Benny in the minds of anyone who watches it as one of the most intuitive and muscially-talented percussionists out there. As a bonus this DVD delivers a very simple message with a very powerful implication - trust me...it's worth buying.

  • You just sold me...I'm ordering it now! I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees through Mr. Lang!

  • that groove at 0:36!!!!!!!

  • mi porfesor tiene ese video

  • i agree!

  • Best DVD of 2009 for sure.

  • are you taking john blackwells new dvd into acccount? that thing is off the hook

  • best drum dvd ever made! :D

benny is the most amazing drummer i ever seen. not the usual iper techncian, but groove, feel and passion for drums.

definetely love his way of playing

  • I totally agree with you there buddy.

Too many drummers are only looking to play incredibly technical things and forgetting about the groove, and musicality aspect of drumming.

I could listen to Benny's laying all day.

  • I want to see him and Victor Wooten play together, 2 groove masters.

  • hey does ne1 noe the first song played in the trailer?
