when u take a electric fly racket/swap thingie apart. whould that be enuf amps and voltage and stuff? and what is better to use steel wool or aluminium foil??? PLS ANSWER!!!
And such electric fly swatters don't have enough power for this. They have less than 1 joule of energy, because it should only kill flies and it should't be dangerous for humans...
But you can get a suitable capacitor at Ebay. A capacitor with ~500 joules will cost less than $10, I think.
I used a simple mechanical switch. Not very efficient, but it works. I also have an SCR, but this is such a "hockey puck" type: You must mount it with ~2000 to 5000lbs of force, else it gets destroyed while switching. So first I need to get some thick metal pieces to mount it.
If you want extreme velocity from your gun, make an electromagnet around the barrel. Of couse the field would have be exactly centered. You could actually make a minigun out of this concept. Make a bunch of 30 cal cartriges (copper jacket with water + aluminum in the base and then the bullet sealed on top). The receiver would have bent contacts displaced the length of the cartrige from the barrel and when the bullet are feed in the loading mechanism would push the bullet into the barrel firingit
How did you estimate the muzzle speed? Ballistic pendulum? Or did you find just the right barrel length which absorbs the flash without ruining muzzle speed, so that you can read it with a Chrony?
The obvious solution for small ETGs would be taking readings outside / far from the muzzle to avoid blinding the Chrony, but airsoft rounds slow down too quickly for this to work well.
No, much simpler. But this only works for this speed: With a little less energy, the shot is much less loud. So I think the speed of the bullet must be a bit higher than the sonic speed (loud sound when something moves with supersonic speed). This is also realistic by the depth he bullet penetrates in wood. So I simply said it is 350m/s. But it could also be 335m/s, 370m/s or something.
I don't know how many watts flow through this while shooting. But I think it is at least 1 megawatt. This power is delivered by a capacitor, only for a very short time(<0.001 seconds) of course.
Several 1000 amps.....................Wow several 1000 people believed that uneducated guess.

@drewsisely dude, an educated guesser would guess the same. it is definitely several 1000 amps

@ENNNNN It's only there for a micro second. But yea I guess it still is

Is aluminum foil the ideal propellent? This almost seems too good to be true.

Thanks for explaining what it is ;]]]

how many volts does your capacitor bank have, and how many microfarads? I need to know because I'm building one at the moment.
Tdog283 2 years ago
The capacitor has 450V and 4200µF.

O damn man! That's a lot of power.

Nice! What are you using to switch/trigger this? SCR?

what kind of capacitor would i need and where could i get it?

The capacitor used in this video is about 4050µF/450V
