Alright people sometimes don't know how to listen to a horse...it's EXTREMELY hard to heal an injury like that...a shattered cannon-bone is almost impossible to heal once broken...and even if it does heal the horse may still never walk again.

There are special people who coe from the humane society to help and make sure no animal is hurt. It is illegal to tie a rope to the animal's feet then pull on it, making the animals fall.

Well it's harder to heal a horse's broken leg. Really hard, actually. Some horses, like Barbaro, even develop laminitis. It's sad but unfortunately it's very difficult to heal a broken leg on a big animal like that.

@RuffianQueenOfRacing ive known loads of horse's to get drugged , not just racehorse's you know. you need to come to the real world of horse's. and as for them to be put down if they loose a race then actually yes they can be put to sleep!! and you want to no why? coz they are some stupid idiots out there that only race and push horse's to their limit (even over that) is for the money and if those horse's dont win then the owners dont see any point in keeping it alive if it doent make money!

@ilovehorse1100 and @RuffianQueenOfRacing both of you are right--I have two ex-racehorses, one who was starved and one who was treated like the king that he is. It depends on their owners, trainers, and the money that they bring in.... Unfortunately, many horses are abused daily, not just racehorses, but all breeds. This is why we have so many rescue systems for retired racehorses around :) And people should always look into adopting a racehorse first, because they're all very talented!

@marblerox When a human breaks a leg, we do everything we can to get them back on their feet..Yeah, its agonising having a broken leg, trust me I know, But just because I was off my leg for a few months..Doesnt mean I lost the will to live..I bet if you broke your leg..You would want to live? And you would want all the help you can. But horses cant say "please don't put me down" We just do it because we think its "best" for them.It is horrible that people put horses down for a broken leg.

A horse is a beautiful animal that shears it's gifts with us making as fly in a jump, making us part of the wind when we gallop or canter. They shear their whole heart with us.

I love just being around them and THAT is what it's all about. I wish more people could forget about the races (which I refuse to take part of in any camps, or shows) and just realize how truly wonderful they are

I saw that movie and despite it looking totally real when her leg broke I don't understand how anyone could think they would really do that to her! I really would like to learn how they train stunt horses as it's amazing to watch the end product.

@Krrosec i was talking about the gelding that played Ruffian in the movie, actually 4 geldings played Ruffian, i was just impressed with the stunt horse that did the break down scene, it must have taken a while for them to train it to do just that scene.... I watched a small video on youtube of them training the stunt horse that played hidalgo in the movie, it doesnt look like much, but im sure there is a lot more tough stuff going on when the camera is off
