  • How about Cibola County in New Mexico?

  • Couldnt agree more. In the uk it is likely the planning laws rather than building codes that will restrict earthship opportunities. Functional building codes are increasingly administered by forward thinking surveyors who can embrace this form of construction e.g check out the LABC registered solutions for uk wide systems approval.

  • I was on board completely until seeing this video. I understand the need for green sustainable building.. but codes are a minimum standard set to ensure the safety of occupants inhabiting them. This means structural and fire safety as well.. I would like to know that my home meets the codes, I would be a little afraid of what could happen if something bad happened in the earthship.

I would have more preferred to see that he is working to change the codes, not finding a way get passed the code

  • @envyintrigue "A penny wise and a dollar foolish"...."oh the codes, the glorious codes, and the government can do no wrong", i hear you loud and clear...this bureaucratic crap is exactly what is ruining our civilization.

  • @envyintrigue some codes go beyond the minimum. example if your building a off grid home most places require a electrical permit. In many areas they require 110v electrical wiring for things like lighting which is ac current.. in a off grid home you have some items you can run off 12v dc

this is what many codes want:

to run a led light bulb you might loose 20% of the generated power just from wasted power conversions to off set this loss you need a larger battery bank and more power

  • Study Common Law and Trust Law to learn that we don't have to be controled by all the Codes, Permits and Regulations. Learn about your Sovereignty and Freedom to do what you want. Learn about the Freeman Movement, it will help everyone who just wants to be left alone to live in Peace.

  • We live in a very regulated world. There are as you say just a few pockets of freedom on Earth. Sadly that's the way it is. Good luck finding those pockets of freedom. You are true pioneers.

  • I hate regulations. Their primary purpose is just to keep the barriers to entry high and thus eliminate competition to the established corporations and increase their profits.

  • An unorganized township as is called in Ontario would be a "pocket of freedom".

I think everyone who feels screwed by building codes from doing something good need to let their local political leader know what you think about this serious roadblock.

  • He is a role model in a world of super models.

  • The ONLY reasons there are so many Codes & Regulations is to PROTECT the BANK'S investment to ensure they will get their money back if you default on your Mortgage & for Local Government (Councils) to be able to sell your property easily if you fail to pay your local rates & Taxes etc... The other reasons is to ensure everyone gets a slice of the pie = more people employed to control you & what you do & this increases the costs of building your home = we are the biggest losers & we get fleeced

  • Bureaucracies are not keeping up with people's changing housing and energy needs. One big reason--lobbying by buildng supply and energy corporation$.

  • @Damis10001 old money wanting to keep their money and profits...

  • where are the pockets of freedom?

  • If one watches Michael Moore's movie entitled "SICKo" shows that money and insurance control that industry and congress has let them. The "public servants" that we call politicians get paid so much by the commercial entities that they don't want us to evolve past their control pennywise for EVER. When earthships were first developed, this guy should have been applauded but instead had to fight with the state legislature for 3 YEARS! I want to do this, today.

  • Ok so all of this is great. Here is my problem. I cant move and I cant build where I am. So what can I do to my existing home to make it more carbon friendly? Short of adding insulation and putting plastic on the windows I need more ideas. Any ideas would be welcome. Lowc23@yahoo.com

  • @lowc23 Move and build. You are free even if you are stuck in your recent life. You can free yourself and your living area.

  • I love these earthship videos! Great work. The epidemic problem with constricting regulations isn't unique to the building sector. North America is trapped in a litigation-based mentality that has become solely focused on covering one's posterior with regulations ad nauseum! Innovation is hindered in every way by this legal disease. Keep fighting this good fight and thanks for posting these great videos.

  • @geojibby No only are Americans trapped in legal litigations - the Inspectors have the FINAL auathority - too much power - and often their intrusions aren't for 'best interest' but for their own 'job security.' Also, another problem getting past litigation is the big oil / electric companies don't want us to go off the grid.

  • what if theres some one that buids a bad structural house! and falls on the people that live in them>>? those are the permits for and y agree that housing needs to be changed to help the planet

  • @ingesumadre then they don't know how to build a house.

  • cool Michael Reynolds! Earthships! I built one right in the heart of Albuquerque and I sure am proud of it. Snuck rite by em too with permits an everthin just so and inspections to boot! Caint hardley believe it to hear you tell it but i did have to say she was a shack but there she sits passive in sun and pnm pays me for the voltige!!

  • I would like to know if there is a list compiled that you can find "pockets of freedom" on which to build your earthship. My husband and I have been looking into what it would take for us to build an earthship. We want to build an earthship to retire in.

  • @ChawampaTuU2009 earthship,com/pockets-of-freedom Hope this helps

  • Love the Earthships and the concept of zero carbon living. I'm English and now live in Borneo where I have just bought some land with no restrictions to build and plan to build such a structure. Thanks Micheal I will be contacting you and your web site very soon . yours sincerly David.....

  • my husband and i have been discussing what kind of house we want to build for a year and a half now. we both agree we want to use alternative building materials, and integrate sustainable energies in to the home. we started out looking into straw bale houses, but we are leaning more and more towards an earthship. keep the videos coming! fascinating stuff!

  • It's amazing how many idiots like odin422 and mattandpatti222 there are on youtube.

Every nationally and internationally recognized scientific organization agrees that climate change is happening and w/ near certainty that man is the cause.

  • google: climate change on mars, and venus, and every other planet in this system.

yes, the climate is changing, but something bigger is going on

    :P

  • @dancidelics, if you do google that you'll come up with a laundry list of misinformation and disinformation. Those variables were thoroughly considered by the IPCC and others and found not to be significant.

  • Sorry bud! I like the ideas of these healthy homes, but you do not know what is coming on the horizon do you? I did not think so! Why does he say a matters of months? he knows! we are toast! move out of U.S. is my best bet.

  • southwest Kansas is another free zone. Anything west of Dodge City in Ford County

  • @cvrnut09 i'm from garden city

i don't know if it would pass in holcomb

my family couldn't build a normal house when we got here

but maybe thats just because the mayor didn't like us

i think that's all cleared up now though

just thought I would throw in a tidbit

  • PERMITS=FEES

    PAYOLA at work

  • CLIMATE CHANGE!?!?!?!

yep changes EVERY MINUTE, DAY, HOUR, WEEK

    now POLLUTION, THAT"S a problem

  • Ya, the New world Government will take all this away from us. U.N. and lucus trust go check it out! U.S. is toast! the whole world is under the Jesuit order!

  • Very well spoken. I hope someday I can work with you building an Earthship where I live.
