Hey! great videos, really helping me i wnat to play this song for my dads birthday, i made some changes for playing it with a bass and a guitar, one is that i begin by only playing the "a" note (not the complete chord), it sounds a lot more like the song
You have helped me a lot with this tutorial (and the others).
Learn through your lessons has been incredible.
I mean, I started to playing the keyboard the last year with no faith in my ability, without a experience, only wanting to play something and now I'm playing Beatle's songs, dude.
John, what can I say, I play Martha My Dear on the piano now thanks to your tutorials, thank you. If you can, I would love a tutorial of Heart Hotels by Dan Fogelberg, Ribbon in the Sky by Stevie, and I wouldn't mind playing Breaking Us In Two by Joe Jackson, if you have the resources handy.
@nostalgicmalcontent Wonderful songs, all.. thanks for the suggestions. Breaking Us In Two is especially fun to play - Joe Jackson always includes great piano parts in his songs. Glad the videos have helped you!
@aranurland I don't have a tutorial on that one yet, but when I do it, I'll let you know. Or, if you're a subscriber, it should send you a notification automatically.
I love what you're doing with the free videos. I know how much work goes into it. And for you to volunteer your time to share the love of music is very admirable. Thank you.
If you mean to arrange the song to sound well on piano then good job. If you're trying to play the actual part accurately then the intro already has way too many notes and sounds cluttered. Nonetheless, Keep it coming!
no offense but that eric claptin part was way off i dont even know where you made that up from. its supposed to be like 14 notes or something. not 3 that sounds weird. any idea what the actual notes are?
Amazing paino playing and a great teacher. I've learned more in the past few weeks that I have in the past 40 years. Your chords are so complex & complicated. I'm getting about 60% of it. i wonder when you get time could you teach us the song 'Georgia" in the key of C. I'm not good on the flat notes. maybe you play in simple & then with all those great chords. Many thanks for sharing all your great songs which is very much appreacited.
@tubber83 Glad you like the videos, and that they've been helpful to you! I usually play four-note chords, which can be a stretch for some people. If they are too challenging that way, you can always leave either the upper or lower note off, depending on what the melody is. Re: 'Georgia,' I had hoped to have a video done on that one by now, like so many others.. I'll keep it in mind, though. I appreciate the comment, thanks!
i use to be so conscious about me playing the melody and the chord, and still it doesn't sound as good.now i realize thanks to you that bass line on the left and chord on the right.wow thanks for the enlightenment.
Where online can I learn the letters you're talking about? I have a keyboard, but can only play by watching hands. I'd like to be able to read and play.
@SamKhan95 I think any basic piano teaching website should be able to help you there. Once you know all eight white keys, the black ones should come fairly easy.
thanks alot, but its very frustratin at 8:00 + when you play the song with completely different inversions and even add some melody to with yr pinky finger
im like . WTF that is not how you explained it! :///
John, you're the man! Your tutorials are really good and they help me a lot! You're my official piano teacher!
BTW I have a suggestion: Could you make a quick tutorial on how to use the sustain pedal? That's the only thing I can't quite get from watching your tutorials. Sometimes, when I use it, the song sounds awesome but some other times it sounds crowded and noisy.
Yes, in fact I'd meant to do a mini-tutorial on that at some point a while back.. Part of the problem with doing a video on the pedal is that I don't have the correct camera position to show both the pedal and the keys. But I'll keep the suggestion in mind!
Yes, the original just plays the single A note on the piano part, but I add the chord to the intro because it's missing the guitar, and the rest of the chord should really be included.
Awesome video. I was wondering if you could please do a tutorial for Meatloaf's I'd do anything for love. I havent found any on youtube. and i really need to learn for a performane. if you could respond that would be great. good job too.
Yes please, I second that request for I don't Like Mondays. I worked out that in the intro use only black notes in the beginning - is this correct? Also, if poss, could you record some tutorials for Carole King songs too? Thank you.
i would suggest that the intro is just played in octaves. like a octave beginning above middle c. it sounds better than chords and more like the original.
The original intro is played with just octaves on A, you're correct.. But without the guitars to play the A minor chord, there is something missing, so I play the entire chord on the intro. You can just play the Am chord once and then play octaves (with the pedal), but the chord is necessary there at the start of the song.
Yes, the chords are the same across the board for most instruments.. The bass line runs downward.. it's just a matter of playing the notes in a different order on the piano than you might with the guitar.
This has eluded me for 30+ years. Just one point - I tried the very first rapidly repeating A min chord as just a single note A, rather than all 3, and it seemd to sound a bit more like the original,
Yes, and thanks, hellpmaboab, I should have made that clear.. You're right. The A octave is the only piano part that's played on the original song. I add the other notes in the RH to establish the Am chord where the guitar part would be.
In actuality, you could play all the notes just one time, hold the pedal down, and then repeat the single note A the rest of the measure.
Thanks for noting that! I should have explained it better or at least played it that way on the video.
The video is very good and useful. You are invited to Subscribe to my ChannelI have a feeling that you will like my piano tutorials. I also upload new videos often on my Channel.

Highly informative, but you should probably stick to calling notes how they exist in the key (stop calling it Ab and call it G#. Makes more sense that way). Ab doesn't exist in the key of A. G# does.

Ah!!! You are incredible!! I've been trying so hard to find Beatles sheet music for this song, but it's not easy to come by and when I do manage to find some, it isn't very accurate.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!! :)
