  • Definitivo, el yngling es mi clase!!!

  • Definitely not 40 knots of wind, more like 20. That boat would be totally over powered even with reduced sail at 40 knots, and the sea would be much larger.

  • erm i hate 2 break it to u mate but there is something wrong with your windometer if it says that is 40kts

  • actual sailing in 40kts (double-reefed main and half a jib was too much) take a look at my "video response" or search "high wind sailing knockdown extreme squall intense heeling sailboat wet wild 11/11/11 "

  • c'mon! i've almost sailed with 35 kts, air was not air but was just water in the air, it was really difficult to breathe...

  • oh! with 40 kts you can't sail, you can't do anything! these are maximum 28kts...

  • @chopperita7118 Of course you can sail in 40 knot winds - done it. It is difficult to tell with a video, but it would not surprise me at all of these were 40 knots.

  • After 1:00 comes beautifull manuever 40 knots or not.

  • I guess 40 knots wind not boat speed!

  • But 40 sounds better lol

  • not even 15 knots

  • this is more like 50 knots

  • Yeah if that's 40 knots that guy has forearms like treetrunks and weighs a good 600 pounds.

  • A fine 'Training Only' video; keeping a course in boat critical waves

  • I'm photoshopping an image of this video and titling it. NOT 40.jpg

  • This is definetly not 40 knots. The ship is not surfing.

  • this are max. 12 knots !

  • This is definitely below 20 knots. I'm guessing about 14-16.

  • and our bavaria 30 cruiser makes 30 knots. Haha, this are 10

  • the main would be constantly flogging in 40knots... it barely flaps

  • come on guys. this is about 28 mph. I live in Greece and sail hard all year round. We know what gusts in meltemi mean. It is something you could never forget if you experience. BAsically if the wind was more even the inflaable could not approach the yngling, anfd the person speaking could not even speak to the microphone. Also note that the sail IS NOT HARD INN as it should, via the boom vang.

  • this is 40 knots. This seems less cause of camera poor resolution.

  • not even 20 prob 15-18

  • oh, come on! I live in mallorca too, to the south in sa rapita and that is no way near 40kts. Try around 20kts. I've sailed up to 30kts here and waves build up quickly.

  • never 40 hard at the wind...never

  • The guy says in swedish that its arount 17 m/s or 33 knots. Hard to tell. I have never sailed Yngling and you cant judge by the waves if you have never sailed in the mediterrainan.

  • its windy but more like 22-26

  • 10+- mehr nicht ihr wollt mir doch nicht erzählen dass die mit der nusschale schneller als der riesen gruopama-tri oder?

  • 23 knots +/-

  • hahaha, 20knots x 2 sailor :) soling can sail on 40kn but not whit that sail, and 2 slr...

  • No way 40 knots!!!! lolol

  • max 8knots this boat is 7 meters long... so the hull speed cant be more than that!! anyways...screw you, got better things to do

  • @Stahbilus The wind is suposed to be 40 knots not the boat speed.

But the wind speed is probably only about 30 knots or somthing like that

  • @herregud2 wind is scaled in bft ...

  • @Stahbilus Wind can be at least scaled in bft, mp/h, km/h, knots and m/s. Knots are usually used internationally, because they are way more precise than beauforts. Beauforts are usually used when u cant get accurate wind speed, they are scaled by effects on nature.

  • maximo 20 knos

  • looks like my grandma does 40 knots to the supermarket

  • that isnt even close to 40 knots 25 max, if you knew anything about sailing you would know you would never hold the main filling in 40 knots, you would be spilling it like there was no tomorrow and finding it tough to hold her with the jib.

  • @peadar104 not even 15

  • @peadar104 Can yngling's put reefs in? Hypothetically if this were actually 40 knots, surely they would have 2 reefs or even 3 and a storm jib? I'm a dingy sailor myself so I don't really understand much of how keelboats deal with these type of winds.

  • Hi, that's not 40 knots of wind........at one point the guy says 17 mtrs/sec - that is 33 knots. I estimate it to be around 30 knots of wind, maybe gusting 32/34.........otherwise; nice video!

  • @norbratraveller Yes almost everyone on You Tube mistakes Knots for miles per hr. Much easier to use the Beaufort scale . This is about a force 6 . In a force 8 they would have to reef.

  • This is not a 40 knots friends. Come on...

  • I don't know... I've sailed catamarans(supercat 17) in 30 knots and it's pretty scary, boat becomes almost impossible to handle.

  • That is NOT forty knots. This is 25 knots, maybe gusting to 30. Sailors always exaggerate. IF that was 40 knots, you would see many more and bigger whitecaps, with the foam getting blown off the top to create a what looks like a constant sheet of mist above the water. That being said, the Yngling is a good boat in 30 knots... but not in 40. For that you need a 7'11" sinker sailboard with a 3.0 sail.

  • WOW!!! COOL!!!

  • the designer of all boats thats end of "ling" is the brither of Martin Linge, who died i Maaloey (Måløy) of the west coast of Norway in "The World War ll". He was the onliest norwegian guy who died in the war in Maaloey

  • It was designed in 1967 by Jan Herman Linge; received ISAF International Class status in 1979 and was chosen as the Olympic Women's Keelboat for 2004 and 2008. Linge wanted to build a keelboat for his young son, and thus named it Yngling, the Norwegian word for "youngster".

  • these state suggests to me around force 6 max..

  • Soling ? :)

  • kriskk007: Yng Ling,,,same designer. I sail one on Lake Michigan, out of Milwaukee.

  • never 40 kts

29er is max speed 30 kts

  • Windspeed dude! but I dont think its that either.

  • It's always pretty hard to tell from videos though. There is quite a lot of spray of the crests of breaking waves there

  • I agree it can be hard to tell in videos. But for sure thats 28 knots average. Just look at how "full" hes sailing.

  • hi how fast is 40kts by miles

  • 40kts≈46mph

  • the most 20-30 knots of wind I agree.

  • Yeah , very good sailing,

    But probably more like 30 - 35,

    well done

  • Comon its wery close to 40knots = 15-18 sek/m so give them a break

i would like to see you guys in a Yngling do the same. I know that boat and its not as easy as it looks to be. sadly i dont sail anymore.

  • Well, the first time I helmed a keelboat on my own was with a yngling in a 15 - 20 breeze. For a beginner quite something. This boat isnt spectacular and it isnt fast. But for my opinion, its not necessary. It is very well constructed. Its so easy and smooth to handle and to steer. you get a feeling for the boat very quick. Amazing....

  • haha cool vid. i would have loved to go out and do shy reaches in that breeze, oh yer check out my vid when i was doing shy reaches in 30kts but only in a sabot but i capsized in the end and wen they stopped filming it got up to 40+kts and i was fanging along. and lost a batton... type in EXTREME SABOT SAILING and there should be me n a mate below me. Thnx n great vid

  • I would say 40 knot gusts but its a 35 knot breeze

  • My first thought Are you crazy

but then all Yngling sailors have at one time done this.

    Great boat handling

  • Thanks!!!

  • i would say this is close to 40kts. at least gusting to 40kts.

  • agree, this looks close to 40 kts, good job,

    been there, done that...

  • umhh..wind speed 13m/s boat speed 8knots

  • 40 knots wind you dumbass!

  • not 40 knots :S more like 15

  • that is not 40knots

  • Good Clip

  • ye like a bad jibe or tak

  • Nice sailing, you can not aford to make any mistakes in that wind.
