whats the purpose of this trial ? will it go anywhere ? will the UN get warrants for bush and blairs arrest and trial.....No? nothings been done...what a waste of time...if your going to have a trial then for gods sake go through with its verdict immediatley and do something....actions speak louder than words and all i seem to hear at this trial is words.....sad..patheitc and usless....

@lector0003 No Saddam wasn't good and neither were his sons but the US constitution does not give the government the right to declare we are unless attacked. This is part of the reason why the country is going down the crapper from the massive debt accumulated by going to war.

@thowdy The UK and US launched the invasion of Iraq on the basis that Saddam had WMDs capable of strikes on US and UK soil within 45 minutes. This was a lie, and many many more lives were lost in Iraq due to this and the ten years of embargoes that preceded it. Saddam was a brutal dictator, but he kept some semblance of control. Iraq is now fucked and so dangerous that natives don't even dare to return to renew their passports.

Some "semblance of control?" Yeah, all he did was fight a decade long war with Iran and launched a war against Kuwait, not to mention what he did against the Kurds and the moslems in the south. He ran a brutal, miserable regime.... what a muslim hero he was. And Iraq is so dangerous for one reason: Islamic fighting. Period, end of story. I thought the war was a mistake, but the way the Leftist around the world reacted to it was hideous.

What principle are you arguing for, that it's wrong to impose regimes through violence? Look at the history of the super powers. @Valelacerte What regime did the US impose upon Iraq? And after the initial short period when the coalition took out the Saddam dictatorship, all violence was caused by muslim sectarian fighting, as clannish hostilities which were bottled up by Saddam's iron fist were let loose. I won't argue about how wise it was for Bush to think he could both take out Saddam and impose some sort of peace between muslim clans, but I know it wasn't the evil thing that the Islam/Left Alliance made it out to be

@thowdy You're forgetting that the population of Iraq has been suffering from bombings and sanctions since 1990; half a million children were dead by about 1996. The history of the US' involvement in Iraq is filthy: they supported Saddam's actions against Kuwait over a border dispute, as they did for his actions against Iran. When their complicity became a public embarrassment, then they feigned outrage and attacked. The US happily supplied arms and stirred up Sunni-Shia animosity.
