  • This is such an energetic dance, haha... So beautiful :) I had forgotten how fun and diversed Filipino culture was... Gosh, it's been a decade since I was last in the Philippines. I was going to apply as an exchange student at a Philippines university for one semester, but their semester dates are different from U.S. universities and it'd be difficult for me to adjust my schedule according to... so I ended up going to India as an exchange student instead... which is also as beautiful.

  • This is a RIP OFF from SPANISH AND MEXICAN folk dances... Filipinos never danced like this before being ruled by Mexico City for the Spanish Crown.

  • HAAA? Oh Really? where did you get that information? What is "Sibot" or "Pasigin?" LOL. Think twice before you leap!

  • Give me a break... That's just this video.

The moves might be called that now, and yeah, I'm sure some of it's native, but too bad they had to try to make most of it look more Western, but that's nothing new from Filipinos.

  • Delusional! no wonder why everybody hates mexicannibals.

  • @DonMiguel1810 True, but where did you get mexican? actually, the mexicans experienced the same situation, some explorer came thinking he found the place and discovered, and has the right to rule it, so i don't really know why you mentioned mexican.

  • I still remember this beautiful folk dance danced by a certain group of Grade Six pupils during our Field Demonstration Day... This dance is.. well, EXCELLENT among the others... I love this!

  • hahaha so cool seems they are playing in the sea sides huh? awesome

  • Thanks for the informations posted here. do you mind if I copy them for my personal note?

Please? That will save me from searching. hehe

I am compiling a Filipiana for my personal use to share to my daughters.

  • umm..do u know where i can download folkdance songs?cuz i need it for a program in our school were in an international school so we need to show other countries what pinoys can offer.(:

  • this dance was created by our mentor Prof. Cisostomo Barrera when he was with the Bayanihan, and was later on popularized by the group for West Visayas State University Panayana-Kalingawan Dance Troupe. I see that the concept of the dance remained somewhat the same although some steps and sequences have already been altered or stylized. At any rate we of the Panayana/Kalingawan is very glad that this dance has started to become other peoples dance as well.

  • This type of dancing(sayaw) of our Filipino culture derives from the nature of fishing. As you can see the guys using nets(pukot) to capture

the girls. Like the whole idea of courtship- boy chase girl. You have to be fast and energetic to

perform. Just don't hurt the ladies. Good times when i tried back then. Just don't hurt

    the ladies...

  • lol ;)

  • I'm a Hawaiian born Filipino and never realized the diversity and the many types of Philippine dances besides the usual tinikling. I think a compilation DVD would not only make for great viewing, but also a great educational tool for us second, third & future generation Filipinos born abroad who are interested in our cultural arts. Magnificent dancers and spectacular videos! Bravo! Thanks for taking the time to upload and share your vids!

  • Thanks for a very kind comment. Hawaiian dances have influenced Philippine dances too. The PASTORES BOOL, from Bool town of Bohol province is of the Spanish Villonsico tradition but the music utilized is believed to be Hawaaiian! Small world!

  • Im Hawaiian, Filipino, and Spanish I was wondering what is Pastores Bool... Is that a traditional dance... I've never heard of it... do you have any video clips of the dance... it really interesting how hawaiian/hula.. has an influence on filipino culture... as for me i dance hula and tahitian but never got the chance to really dance tradtional filipino dances im really interested but havent found a group or ppl who dance really...

  • The music used in the Pastores Bool is also a popular melody in the Hawaiian Islands. The dance steps are however, traditional to pastores dances in Central Visayas.

  • i thought this dance was very cute...im am a half filipino and mexican and i hadnt realized the similarities in the dances and culture..u did a great job in representing....=]

  • Hello -

Our culture is much appreciated! I would like to congratulate this dance company for truely capturing the essence and the traditoinal aspect of the Filipino culture. It's been a pleasure going through some of your videos. It's definately a rare find.

I would like to get in contact with the group/ choreographer. I'm currently compiling traditional dances and would like some guidance.

Thanks in advance and Happy holidays!

  • your paaiguin is great.... nice one.. you justify it....

  • Yehey! (Palakpak ng malakas!)

  • Ang saya maging pinoy!! kakaiba ang feeling pag may sarili kang Culture

  • That's right! Now you understand why some people have lived defending our culture. You dont need to do the same. Simple appreciation and preferential treatment over foreign culture will keep our culture (and soul?) living.
