  • Thank you! I can't believe I hadn't found this before as a subscribed fam. What a brilliant and accurate execution of one of Russ' party pops! I couldn't hear any difference at all - thank you for keeping him alive.

  • @david1972a I really appreciate your very kind remarks and your enthusiasm for a style of music that seems to have disappeared into the past. I'll do what I can to keep it going, though!

  • One party medley down - about 10,000 to go (ha-ha)

Nice one Mike, although I always thought 'All the Way' was a strange one to give this treatment to. But then what Russ says, goes I suppose.

  • @IVORIESMAN Russ seemed unqiuely to be able to encapsulate emotion even in his honky-tonk piano recordings. He reckoned it was because he was always thinking of the words, but of course there was always more too it than that. He had such well-developed musical instincts and skills. Sadly, my old honky-tonk piano is long gone, so there won't be any more from me quite like that medley.

  • nice to hear your different style here (and see you still around )reminds me perfectly of russ' playing which i used to listen to yonks ago .. talk again another day

  • Yes Mike, the piano sounded great . Just like the 1957 - 1960 Abbey Road original Conway piano. I can't really believe you parted with it!

So probably no more gems to find re the old camcorder... pity.

    Cheers Mark

  • @MarcusTomatos I've found versions of Side Saddle, Roulette and Rule, Britannia! played on the honky-tonk piano, but they're already well represented amongst my YouTube videos. People will think that's all I can play! It would be easy to re-create a h-t piano again, should the need ever arise and the space exist. Sadly, our mutual friend with the rather nice Steinway Model K has not yet been persuaded to lacquer the hammers...

  • Wow Mike, the monkey gland injections are working a treat, you look about 35!

This is a brilliant performance, so why have you kept it under wraps for so long?

'Party Pops No.2' part 2 of course, with the middle tune being 'I'll Buy You A Star', for those who want to know.

Really like the right hand work towards the end - fantastic as always.

    Cheers Mark

  • @MarcusTomatos I had to laugh at the 'monkey glands' reference! More worrying is the fact that I've aged so much in only 15 years. Thanks for the info - I did finally overcome my laziness and do some research myself. Glad you like the performance. I've been checking out some old camcorder tapes and came across it the other day, and found my treasured old honky-tonk piano (now sadly no more) recorded for posterity.

  • @MarcusTomatos Thanks for the info on the middle tune - I had never heard it before and now I suppose I'm gonna have to learn it

Meanwhile I can't help wondering just how many pianos Mike Thompson has got through .There are at least 4 different models in his videos.- probably more!

  • Thank you to those who have posted such kind and helpful comments. Mike

  • How nice to find a new upload from you! Wonderful performance!

Thanks for sharing and thumbs up,

    Lilly

  • Nice one! That's an assortment I've not heard before, particularly not in Russ-style... the first one I recognise as "All The Way", the last one is "My Special Angel" but what's the one in the middle?

  • Jolly Good ! =;)

  • Piano Pops No 2 Part 2.

    Outstanding Performance Mike! :)

  • When somebody loves you is the first one, not heard the others before

  • very good my friend
