I'm sure this show is great. All the clips I've watched have been excellent. Too bad it will forever live under the shadow of it's brilliant British counterpart. Whenever I get the inkling to sit down and watch the US version, I figure... meh. I'll just watch the original again.
Life on mars brings back memories, I think they should have just made the story line more simple by having Sam warp back in time for the whole series, with no aliens or space crap and hearing voices - it ruins the show. The only parts I liked were when Ray Carling had a rant or when they were in the interrogation room. This show had the potential to be sooo much better, who wouldn't want a Law and Order 70's style? + Law and Order 2010 is shit now that Goren has been killed.
One of the best shows to come to American television since the great police shows from the 1970's. But this one had a real interesting twist. However ABC decided to cancel it. One of the biggest mistakes ABC ever made in my opinion. Thank you to the BBC for developing a the great TV show, Life On Mars! Sadly missed!
Michael Imperioli as Ray is the best thing about the American LOM. Could take or leave the Sam, Chris and Annie characters. Harvey Keitel is Harvey Keitel, and always worth watching, but Philip Glenister is Gene Hunt. Do enjoy American Ray though.
You want an alternate ending? Here it is: Sam wakes up in 2006. He's fine. Except life sucks. So he jumps off a roof, lands back in 1973, marries Annie, and gets killed in a car wreck in some godforsaken British city in 1980, leaving Annie a widow, and Gene acts like a slightly less jerky bastard in a sequel series with a female lead who ain't no Gretchen Mol in the looks department -- or even a Paige Turco! How's that?
Ah, it's very sad to see this show go. My parents and I enjoyed it a lot, it was really the only show we'd all hang out with eachother to watch..*sigh* oh well, i guess i'll have to wait for the DVD. and Pray for an alternate ending.
When filming this scene, a crew member mentioned to Rosenberg the writer/producer, about how well Imperioli performed the text. Rosenberg responded "I love writting for him."
I watched most takes. Imperioli was in the zone and nailed it every time, from every angle.
I haven't been able to find a clip but essentially it turns out they were all on a space mission in the future to find 'life on mars' gene hun is really major Tom, hunting for genes and I think possibly some relation of Sams. they tried to put Sams mind to our time to pass the flight but accidently made him imagine the 70s. No joke. Although anyone feel to correct me add anyhing, thats just off blogs I have read
Major Tom is Sam's father. Sam's mind was not moved in time. It was essentially him in an interactive video. He chose 2008 as a cop, and a glitch switched him to 1973.
word. i don't understand why everyone praises harvey keitel's performance. i know he's a good actor, but for this show he just showed up for the paycheck. the whole chemistry in the british version the happened between sam and gene happens with imperioli and omara in the american one.
I love Ray's rant. And I'm one who actually thought the end of the ep (series, *sniffle*) was ingenius. It reminded me of the Red Dwarf "Back To Reality" episode.
I LOVE the American version of this show. So thanks to the UK for making the original. |D Haha.

Proof that Michael Imperioli was the Philip Glenister of the US version. That man could teach a class on how to deliver a scene.

What was the song that played at the end of the finale? While I thought the show was generally pretty awful I really liked the ending.
