I always thought the voice over that explained the blinking light was just for stupid American audiences. I love that the Japanese guy explains it also!
I use to whatch ultra man as a kid. Was telling some friends about it and they never heard of him. I thought I was weird or something thought I would loookon youtube and here he is....great
@jamespercy100 My friend is totally into pokemon and she does not understand tokusatsu. One day I showed her a picture of the Gomora statue I wanted; the one in which he destroys the castle. Well of course she looks at me and says "Oh, it's like a pokemon." Yeah love to see someone walk up to a Kaijuu and toss a pokeball, nevermind trying to pit Charazard (sp) against anyone of them.
@carletealves Indeed - Gomora is a very potent monster - in a battle of sheer strength and durability Gomora would EASILY deck out many Showa monsters - he'd even probably stand agood chance against Ghido '64 not counting any gravity beams. Gomora would also give Gorosaurus, Angi, Baragon and surprisingly King Kong a very good run for thier money. Besides I'm sure you've noticed Gomora seems to know some tactical moves; 0:36-:037 instead of a head long assault he uses his tail to knock Ultra
And fairly tactical/smart in his moves; 1:31 he elbows Ultra, followed by a swift kick and following powerful tail strikes, giving Ultra only time to barely defend himself - at the limits of his power :) The only Toho Kaiju to stand a chance against Gomo would be Titanosaur (even thats debatable), Gigan, MEgalon (but if Gomo thrashes him pretty badly and uses the oscillorary beam Megalon is screwd) and SIGH Hedorah Showa haha.
@hoodaxelboy Yeah it is vice versa as well. Godzilla is actually Gojira in Japanese. They changed it to Godzilla in America because the distributors thought it sounded too foreign and that was back when a lot of people were racist.
'This story is almost as sad to me as King Kong, the idea of the monster being tranquilized and kidnapped by irresponsible people (at least it was scientists this time) and then when it escapes frightened and confused it gets attacked and mutilated and killed. The only thing that makes this not quite as sad as King Kong was that Kong proved himself capable of feeling affection.
The red light means his energy (which comes from the sun) is almost used up. He had to retreat and recharge. I remember seeing the English-dubbed version as a kid; U-man gets a second crack at this bad boy and destroys it.
This episode even as a child did not sit right with me. Gomora was a VICTIM, like King Kong he never should have been kidnapped from his home by irresponsible people, of course he was frightened and traumatized being kidnapped and dropped like that. He was not evil like the Zetton he just wanted to live and not only did he have to be killed but he had to suffer horribly being attacked by the military and having his tail blown off, it was just sad and tragic.
He couldn't go after him. He had to retreat as his energy was running out. All ultra-beings can only stay on Earth for 3 minutes. That is why his color timer is there to warn him. If he had gone after Gomora his energy would've been depleated and he could've died. Hope this helps.
I watched this on channel 17 in Philadelphia over 30 years ago.A guy named wee Willie webber had a great lineup of shows which included ultraman, speedracer, marineboy. It looks kind of silly now.
as a child i felt sorry for Gomorra, it was not his fault the nosy scientists awakened and frightened him, he was just an animal who wanted to live. He was not evil like some of the monsters, he could have killed ultraman but instead of finishing him off he just went away and he also could have killed that stupid kid but he did not. the whole world was trying to kill him, and it really saddened me when his tail was blown off, it was just sad.

i wish i could see the scene where gomora gets his tail shot off, i remember that as a kid it was freaky the tail was still alive with muscle twitches as it bounced around.

@godzillafan451 Would be nice if Gomora was related to Goji but given Gomora was a prehistoric dinosaur 150 million years old whilst Goji was a mutated Godzillasaurus I doubt if they were exactly related unless Toho wanted to make some storyline they were from a common ancestor. Well in terms of King of the Monsters there really is a tight decision to make but for the time being one competetor save for the most powerful Goji's (Meltdown, GMK 2001 and Final Wars 2004) could be indeed Gomora :)
Actually, "The Monster Prince" (a.k.a. "King Creature" in the US Version) is the kid in this episode, who happened to be a monster fanboy. As for Gomora himself--that's HAROU NAKAJIMA ("Godzilla") jamming with Utlraman--sorta a "rematch", because the actor who is "Ultraman" was also "Frankenstein" in "Frankenstein Vs. I respect Ultraman but it doesn't change the fact he got his azz kicked in this scene. Instead of retreating he should have went after Gomora.

This was the best fight of the original series. When I was a kid in the 70's and 80's Ultraman was super popular on U.S. tv.
Gomora was actually called Gohora in the earlier versions. great video; best fight.
