I actually saw Johnny Cash in concert in Chicago ILL when I was only 8 yrs old. I will never forget that very 1st concert....The train (on the big screen..heck this was back in the 70's) yes and the fact that Johnny Cash was this individual who went through hell and high water with his alcholoism but ended up helping others. I don't think JC would mind at all!
This is some good old white boy music!!! No matter if it's Johnny's version or Whitey's!!! I love Everlast and wish more people would recognize his talent!!!
I love ol' J.C. and I think this tribute is one of the best Cash covers I've ever heard. It's new and creative and at the same time honors the original song in a way that few artists today are capable of!
I love ol' J.C. and I think this tribute is one of the best Cash covers I've ever heard. It's new and creative and at the same time honors the original song in a way that few artists today are capable of!
Johnny Cash is the original gangsta rapper and Everlast woulda made him proud. Only 2 J.C. covers have ever been respectable... this one and Social D's Ring of Fire.
@one1human this is taking a classic and putting some hip hop beat to it and its horrible, he took a good song and knocked it down to his level, i thought it might be good when i clicked on it but then i heard it get pissed on and lost a little more respect for whitey ford.
to dogdogcatful would you please back away from the keyboard and keep all thoughts to your self!!!! this is not Sublime but like the title said it is Everlast. please keep all comments to your self if you do not wish to look like a fool. thank you have a nice day. :)
I think a lot of people commenting on this video forget that Johnny Cash was the king of covers and, arguably, nobody in the history of music appreciated the cover song more than Johnny Cash. He did hundreds of covers in his career, and not just from his contemporaries. Danzig, Beck, Sheryl Crow and Soundgarden were all covered by Johnny Cash. It is the height of ignorance to say that Johnny would be pissed just because someone outside his genre (respectfully) covered one of his songs.
@kyle9494 Everlast often tells the story of how he recorded this song, and then mailed a copy of it to Johnny Cash's family and told them if they didn't like it or didn't think Johnny Cash would like it then he'd never release it and they said Johnny would love it. If his own family thought he'd like it, who are you to say he'd be pissed?
Back in the late 70's/early80's George Thorogood recorded a Hank Williams song: Move It On Over. Back before the genre's took over there were fine lines between country and rock...Bottom line is these two 'genres' are what made American music...
Everybody always said Johnny was like Elvis, he could play any song and make it his own. Trent Reznor said Johnny's version of Hurt was better than his own. Many people today do not realize that Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis, and many others share in the honor of being in both the Country Music and Rock-n-Roll halls of fame...This video is, what I believe, a testament to their influence.
Info only to all...I personally told Eric Everlast the Valley Kid to sing Johnny Cash and this was done under the 6th Street Bridge in Downtown Los Angeles with Scandolous and Cartoon.
Props to Everlast for covering this song with great respect towards Johnny Cash. Most Rappers just shit all over songs that they sample/cover and give no props whatsoever to the original artist. Everlast showed class which is RARE amongst the thieving Rappers/Hip Hoppers and many others who cover songs and dont show any respect towards the original artist
i honestly wish this song had received more radio play, or even the album for that matter. I think Love, War, and the Ghost Of Whitey Ford, was his best to date, has something for every emotion.
