  • @davidandhisguitar: It's from "Saint Mary of the Woods".

  • Cool. This isn't from the live in aught 3 album. Where is it from?

  • Didn't Ray Wiley write Choctaw Bingo? Ray, REK, and all those Texas cats are good.

  • I hate Robert Earl Keen. Talk about one of the most annoying voices in music history. How dare him cover McMurtry. Same goes for Ray Wylie Hubbard. Talentless hacks that have somehow hit it big for years.

  • @thamuddler i guess playing with guys like jerry jeff walker and willie nelson among others like guy clark isnt enough recognition. talentless huh? get out of texas you idiot

  • @Rynot11 alright i retract the talentless comment. overrated? yes. ill stay in texas though :)

  • @thamuddler What an idiot! REK's version is much better in so many ways clear down to the back up vocals. This can't even compare.

  • @BrentMichaelStangel Idiot? That's like, just your opinion, man.

  • @thamuddler

chill, guy - James gets royalties, keeps his cash flow up so he can afford to stay in the music business, show up on tour.

That said, covering James' songs is like versioning Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing. Fatalistic cynicism needs to be authentic. Someday we'll hear versions covering CHOCTAW BINGO, or PAINTING BY NUMBERS, and as long as James gets his skim, fine by me, I just won't be th one rushing out to buy them.

  • Duh!!!!!@!

  • THIS IS MOST DEFFINATLEY FOR YOU

  • What album is this from? I know it says the Live in Aught Three album, but I have the album and if you listen to this track on it, it's definitely different. His singing sounds slightly different on this one.

  • @RedShipsofSpainAgain

It's on Saint Mary of the Woods from 2002. I know because I about wore that CD out traveling cross country in 2004. :D

  • Makes more sense knowing that McMurtry wrote it... definately more his style than REK.

  • Really truly wonderful, from England from the place that brought you the x factor shit and simon cowell god help us, all you wait till you gey jedward.

  • I appreciate this so much...being "out here in the middle". Somehow this songs makes it seem a little better.

  • this was one of my favorite robert earl keen songs..... when i found out James wrote it ( i apologize for not knowing ) it moved up several places..... great song by an even greater singer/songwriter

  • To my friend Jessie,

    Thinking of your pretty smile.

Enjoy the concert. Wish I could be there with you.

    Mike

  • Finally!!!

Someone put some james McMurtry on with some decent sound..
