The dog was a stray that Guillermo tied up for two to three hours. The point of the exhibit was to make people realize that in the street, no one would have cared if the dog was starving; however, when the dog was being showcased, people's opinion of the site changed... significantly. The point of the exhibit was to recognize hypocrasy. It's a very human thing to experience, after all.

You don't understand. The starving dog (found on the street) was put in a gallery so that people are forced to react and eitheir feed it (the galerist was indeed feeding it) or adopt him. Someone freed it a couple days later and that was stupid as it's back on the streets. The idea of this art is: adopt this dog NOW. "You are what you read" in dog food on the wall was that people were supposed to take the food from the wall and give it to the dog. It was about helping the dog.

The artist was trying to make a point. It got radically skewed. She was directing attention to issues of overpopulation of dogs. Thinking about it your worries should go past this dog to others that are starving there and maybe you would try to help them.
