To be honist, I never use the modem/router that an ISP provides you, 99% of the time they have been packed full with there own firmware, witch disables half of the router functions, Makes the internet disconnected ever few days. (In my experience), I have been using a Netgear router now for the past 3 years with 3 diffrent providers and it has never let me down. :) Mind you for the past few months i have been trying the BT Home Hub 3 and its been great :), Not once has it dropped out or reset :)

correct nightmareofkaitos...the box is indeed on loan and never becomes the customers property. Have you tried cancelling your subscription pedromanyana? They will ask for it back and place a charge on your account if you can't send it.
ok i'll clarify again.... the box is YOURS after 12 months - you are paying for the box as part of your monthly subscription...i canceld my contract with them after 18 months and i WAS NOT charged for the box.

I have a live box, and Yeah it drives me Nuts, when it goes wrong, we dont get the bloody thing fixed for about a month, the cables are loose so if you tap the thing it resets making you wait 4 hours.... But.. when the thing is working It can reach some Good Speeds!

If u check the terms its Upto 8 mb.......it depends of Ur BT exchange if you are capable of that speed.......U get 4 Mb and 2 mb thats great according to what You pay..U wanted a cheaper broadband...so 4 mb and 2 mb is good speed for a cheap broadband
I must be the only person in the country with good orange broadband. The livebox is absolutley wank but buy a Netgear DG834g. Whereas on the livebox I could only get a connection for four hours without a drop, the netgear hasn't dropped in 6 months. I can get 6mb aswell.

I have I am glad that I did they lied to me over the phone that I was only getting 2meg, but I checked with oBT they said I should defiantly be getting atleast 6.7. Just to set the record straight for the people who keep saying the same thing...The Live Box becomes yours after your 12 month contract, you are paying to rent the box, then at the end of the contract then box becomes yours - I have canceld my subscription with orange and i can catagorically confirm that i was not asked for nor charged a £100 fee for the box.

About the Livebox, I get it by chance in January 2005 (it had just been released) and discovered his fuckin Installation CD and his "richess": internet (micro)cuttings, Livebox freezes, access blockages to the Livebox firmaware, unlimited phone service that became unusable by moments... I had to change it 3 times (the last has been toasted during the night without storm...)
It might be easy to set up if you are on XP Service Pack 1. I'm, oddly enough, on service pack 3 so the install disc won't even load. The Livebox is literally 3 feet from my laptop and it is "out of range". Just gone back to using my Sagem modem which works just fine.

the livebox is good, its just not for idiots, the livebox is really adaptable and works with nearly anything so its more likely something you havent or have done thats made it not work, I have my wii DS and two computers all connected and still get 6 mbps internet speed on all of them.

hi, im using orange starter pack broadband at the mo seems fine to me, i tried to switch to aol earlier in the year cos my modem broke and the guy in the orange shop said phone em and they send a new one, hell did they, all i got was "is it pluged in, does it work on main phone socket, uninstall, re intall" over and over. went to aol cudnt ever connect so came back as new orange customer and now im fine

Another thing. Orange STILL aren't up to date with Windows Vista Home Premium. Their installation cd-rom is an old one, only usable up to Windows XP. I had to pay £69.99 for an Orange recommended company (Microtechs) to come and manually install my livebox for me, and have a £90.00 phone bill, from calling their useless foreign technical support staff. I'm tied to a contract (which they never tell you is about to expire), and will migrate from them ASAP.

If u check the terms its Upto 8 mb.......it depends of Ur BT exchange if you are capable of that speed.......U get 4 Mb and 2 mb thats great according to what You pay..U wanted a cheaper broadband...so 4 mb and 2 mb is good speed for a cheap broadband

I must be the only person in the country with good orange broadband. The livebox is absolutley wank but buy a Netgear DG834g. Whereas on the livebox I could only get a connection for four hours without a drop, the netgear hasn't dropped in 6 months. I can get 6mb aswell.
Good decision to smash the livebox up though!

livebox sucks so does the indian line, strange you dont get an indian person when you cancle with them. I have I am glad that I did they lied to me over the phone that I was only getting 2meg, but I checked with oBT they said I should defiantly be getting atleast 6.7. I have tried every trick in the book.

Just to set the record straight for the people who keep saying the same thing...The Live Box becomes yours after your 12 month contract, you are paying to rent the box, then at the end of the contract then box becomes yours - I have canceld my subscription with orange and i can catagorically confirm that i was not asked for nor charged a £100 fee for the box.

haha will it feel better when you get charged £100? i think not. if it didnt work, then fine but returning equipment that isnt yours is required. would you smash up a mates games console if it didnt work on your tv or whatever? i think not because its just common sense. if its not yours, and it doesnt work, return it, dont destroy it. a clear increase of IQ points and reading skills are required here

La livebox je l'ai eu en janvier 2005 alors qu'elle venait de sortir, et j'ai alors découvert son CD d'installation de merde et ses "richesses": (micro)coupures d'internet, plantages du modem, impossibilité d'accès au firmware, téléphone illimité hors service par moments...
On a du la changer 3 fois (la dernière a cramé pendant la nuit alors qu'il n'y avait pas eu d'orage...)

About the Livebox, I get it by chance in January 2005 (it had just been released) and discovered his fuckin Installation CD and his "richess": internet (micro)cuttings, Livebox freezes, access blockages to the Livebox firmaware, unlimited phone service that became unusable by moments... I had to change it 3 times (the last has been toasted during the night without storm...)

It might be easy to set up if you are on XP Service Pack 1. I'm, oddly enough, on service pack 3 so the install disc won't even load. The Livebox is literally 3 feet from my laptop and it is "out of range". Just gone back to using my Sagem modem which works just fine.

have had no problems with orange, been with them since freeserve and setumy livebox with no trouble on old laptop only a week ago and setuo livebox on the new laptop easily days ago. it isnt rocket science put the disc in and follow the prompts. jeez to destroy a livebox like this is pathetic, i hope you have fun explaining to orange why their box is in bits, also you should expect a hefty bill in for replacement of that product

I to have been with Orange since the Freeserve days & the max speed of my line was 56K! and then along came Wanadoo & a 2mb adsl connection helped along with a Speedtouch 330 adsl modem & that worked trouble free until Orange took over & then I went from a internet connection that rarely died to a connection that has never worked properly since & that`s after the phone line has been renewed & I was told that a Livebox would cure my problems! Bullshit!

the livebox is good, its just not for idiots, the livebox is really adaptable and works with nearly anything so its more likely something you havent or have done thats made it not work, I have my wii DS and two computers all connected and still get 6 mbps internet speed on all of them.

no no, i am an it technician, i know my way around a router thank you very much...the reason i smashed it was becuase orange knocked me offline for over a month while they performed an upgrade of my line...which actually turned into a downgrade. i got fed up of calling them every day to hear the same shit excuses as to what the problem was.....so i lost my rag and smashed the box to shit!!....and then i felt much better

I got one of these shitty liveboxes today & what a piece of shit it really is! Wireless connection, bollocks & it took me ages to get it connected via the ethernet port. I now wish i`d gone for Tiscali or Be Broadband instead, but no I thought i`d be loyal, because i`ve been wih them since the days of Freeserve. I`m glad i`m only renting the livebox & didn`t have to buy it.

hi, im using orange starter pack broadband at the mo seems fine to me, i tried to switch to aol earlier in the year cos my modem broke and the guy in the orange shop said phone em and they send a new one, hell did they, all i got was "is it pluged in, does it work on main phone socket, uninstall, re intall" over and over. went to aol cudnt ever connect so came back as new orange customer and now im fine

I have Orange B/B, the service is fine (once I got my linksys). Death to the Livebox. But you do know that orange hire it to you for £1.98 a month, and they want it back when you leave them. I was thinking of strapping several cans of WD-40 to it and putting it into a fire. Kaaboom. Any one beats me show me.
To state again. The live box is rubbish, so is the home hub. Any ISP giving you an unknown Hardware (ie homehub, livebox) say no.

Lol, I got cut off from them no warning because I was downloading too much on my "capped" unlimited service... They say nothing has changed since they became Orange but their service became shit overnight almost. And having somebody in India who doesn't understand your accent trying to diagnose your problem who all they can say is "yes we can help you with that" every two minutes is not what I paid £20 a month for!

Daniel you are exactly right - the problem with ISP's is when a company takes over that does-not and has not ever been an ISP therfore they dont know what the hell they are doing - Freeserve= Pure ISP (connection fine)....Wanadoo= Pure ISP (connection fine)....Orange=MOBILE PHONE NETWORK (Connection none existant!!!!!)
ISP's Should be ISP's and nothing more.
Orange, stick to what you know, and please KEEP WELL AWAY FROM WHAT YOU DONT!!!!

Another thing. Orange STILL aren't up to date with Windows Vista Home Premium. Their installation cd-rom is an old one, only usable up to Windows XP. I had to pay £69.99 for an Orange recommended company (Microtechs) to come and manually install my livebox for me, and have a £90.00 phone bill, from calling their useless foreign technical support staff. I'm tied to a contract (which they never tell you is about to expire), and will migrate from them ASAP.

I asked them 4 times to cancel my contract but they refuse on the fact that it is a free service they provide and are not obliged to supply it - I am now taking them to court and sue them for £5000 worth of loss time.
