  • A good man died in that house. Rumor has it that he ran himself to death trying to find a corner to pee in.

  • This was a GREAT video. I never heard of cord wood builds before. The beauty of this is that it looks like it can really be done just by yourself and your partner without the need for big machinery or other hands. Thanks so much, it has given me some great ideas.

  • tres interessant !!! bravo pour le resultat

  • how long ago did you build it is the wood holding up with the bugs an insects? what type of wood did you use? im think about doing a square verson of this. you did a great job looks perfect 5 stars

  • so you use fill for the center thanks

  • Heather and Gerald, we are WOWED by your hard work and vision on this. Gave us inspiration and a bit of knowledge to start with. So glad this is still on youtube as I see you built awhile ago! Hope your little cottage still brings you joy for years to come. vid and music were excellent! Keep living the dream :)

  • Wow! Beautiful and inspiring! Just purchased 10 acres and a stackwall has always been our dream. How much did this structure cost to build? thanks!!!

  • Very cool.

  • For the west coast, you could place vertical rebar into the wall perhaps anchored into the slab for horizintal forces from earthquake/wind.

  • beautiful, a complete wall that is simple and not too hard to build. cheap also. looks like it would make a good fence with a stucco coat to seal the wood. I guess a person could use any wood scraps inside the wall just so it is sealed.

  • excellent job man!

  • Thanks, koor23. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but your comment was marked as spam somehow.

    Gerald

  • Beautiful!! Thank you. That was very helpful for me.

    Peace.

  • Thank you, quantumsolutions! If you have any questions on the construction, etc please feel free to contact me at my channel.

    Gerald

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting this. Wonderful to see the whole thing come together ;0) Great work

  • incredible thank you for sharing. ★★★★★

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch and subscribe. : )

  • Very cool! *****

  • thank you!

  • Wonderful music; so peaceful. I am hoping to build a cordwood cabin someday. I attended a workshop and have started to process trees on the land that is to be the site of the cabin. Folks like you are a great inspiration.

  • Did you attend the workshop by Rob Roy in Plattsburg? That's where I went, it was great to have hands-on experience. When the time comes, if you have any questions, contact me at my GeraldBoyClassical channel. I'd be glad to help. : )

  • Thanks for the offer! I always try to listen to a voice of experience. I actually attended a closer workshop by Richard Flato in Minnesota last summer. I thought about making the trip for one of Rob Roy's, but it wasn't working out schedule wise.

  • u go guys! the world needs some get up & go like u both! xjoeyx

  • Thanks joey. There were times I almost got up and went, but I stuck to it! lol

    Gerald

  • Very interesting to make such videos during the contruction time. You have to show all the time something to children, grand children etc etc.. Danke schoen. P.

  • So cool!

I hope it's not impolite to ask, but can you give a rough estimate of what materials cost to build it?

  • Back in 1994, we would estimate about $20,000 CDN. That's the big advantage of doing it yourself - no labour costs!

  • very cool.

    :-)

  • why, thanks. : )

  • ^_^

  • :) :)

  • I bet the big bad wolf won't be able to blow this house down. Nice, solid foundation and walls and beautiful to boot. Thanks for sharing your project. I'll take a look at the Mag.

  • Yeah, he can huff and he can puff all he wants, but it would take a bulldozer to knock this place off its foundation. Probably more than one, lol.

    Heather

  • Very interesting vid. I really liked it. The music is great too, well done.

    Gordon

  • Thanks, Gordon. Glad to hear that you enjoyed Gerald's compositions. I tried to choose ones that went well with the photos.

  • My Father built his own Cabin in Mo with the help of my grandson last year. From ground up. U are wonderful! This is the best way in my opinion and heart /soul gets put into this.

  • Thank you. Yes, a lot of heart, soul and love was put into it - but you only get out of something what you put into it, right? : )

  • wow, cool job, vey talented you are.

  • Thank you so much!

  • It was a pleasure to watch, I would love to try my hand at something like that.

  • Very interesting , I bet that would hold up in a hurricane.***** :o)tm

  • I'm sure it will! With round walls, the hurricane will just swirl around it and move on. Maybe take the stones off the roof, but that's about it.

  • Wow, excellent video, it was great seeing how it took shape!:)

  • Thank you. I'll be posting the second video on this sometime in the next week, so keep an eye out for that.

  • this building will last for many many years, as so will this production...very interesting for those who did such work and for those who have not....extremely well edited and well married with proper audio...thanks for this.
