  • Thanks a lot for the video. It was a big help. Can you send me a copy of the message you sent the guy asking how to reinsert the pinion? I'm going to try to get this pig out of the garage and get it aligned today. Thanks again!

  • i'm replacing the rack on my 99 voyager and it seems to be identical to yours. the only problem i'm having is that damn roll pin won't come out. thanx for posting the video, better than a shop manual anytime

  • @2000darren . thankyou.. Make sure the steering wheel says in the center position.. you will damage the clock spring and its sensitive components if you overturn that steering wheel.. make sure you lock it into position.. The roll pin is easy, Just get the right size Screw driver and dont be afraid to hit it hard.. good Luck..I have a 1998 Caravan now thats very similar to our third gen vans..Check out my other caravan videos. I like to hear people doing their own work

  • @2000darren By the way, Nice Third Gen Firebird.. I once had a 1990 and a 1988 GTA..R.I.P

  • @905speedgta than mine is an 87 GTA has the digital dash t-tops and the 350 chevy motor and really gets some attention here in the uk, thanx for the advice with the voyager we eventually got the roll pin out and the steering wheel was kept in the centre position so the replacement rack will be going in tomorrow

  • Thanks for making the video! I just had to do the one on our 2005. It went well but it was very hard getting the hoses loose and I had to get them loose before I could get a wrench on the large nut above the rack near the steering connection. Not sure what wrench would have worked better but at least it didn't cost me $800 at the repair shop! Also I loosened the nuts on the tie rods first. After that they came off easily.

  • @daspicsman your welcome.. Subscribe to my channel because I always work on these caravans lol..I just took a alarm system out of one today

  • you would probably have to do one if you moved the steering wheel out of its original position while the rack was disengaged from the steering column.. if you keept he steering wheel in place during the rack replacement its fine.. you dont need to reset the clock spring...do yourself a favor.. throw that haynes book away, and go on ebay and get yourself a shop manual ..clear direct directions for your specific car

  • Did you have to re-center the clockspring mechanisms at all? I have Haynes repair manual for this car and they say you have to do it if a new rack - pinion is installed. I wonder if this can be avoided somehow.

  • Overall, I found this to be an informative video. I would, however, offer a couple suggestions to possibly make the job a little easier. First, tape the steering wheel to the steering column to keep it from moving. Before removing the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles, I would pre-loosen the nuts holding the tie rod ends to the rack and then remove both tie rod ends before removing rack. I would also pre-loosen the hoses where they attach to the rack.

  • Found this video informative. I have a 2000 Grand Caravan and just had the rack and pinion replaced. Now I have a leak in the flexible part of the crossover exhaust down pipe. Could it have been damaged by the mechanic replacing the steering? Kent

  • @fototalk No i dont think it was because of him.. it really depends on how he did it

  • Thanks man. I really appreciate you doing this. I am strapped for cash this Christmas and this is a life saver.

  • @TheGuitarbenji your welcome man. I still have the car so if u would like subscribe to my channel, if it needs anything new ill post a video on here

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • @twain55 your welcome

  • What could it be

  • @SMAN873 hey that could be a loose front end.. inner or outer tie rod ends shot.. maybe even the steering box.. im not sure if that has a steering box or a rack and pinion

  • Hey my dad has a 98 dodge Durango 4x4 and his wheel has about 4 or 5 inches of play before the wheels start turning

  • what causes no power steering bad leak and no dry pump noise?

  • Hi,

I'm trying to get the push pin out to detach the pinion from the seering so that it lets the Rack & Pinion fall out but its not moving a bit. I put a phillips screwdriver in but all it does is get the screwdriver stuck with the pin. Any advice?

  • @775jc hey, get a smaller screwdriver.. if it dont work use the special tool, But just get a different size screw driver

  • Hey I need some help!! After I replaced rack and pinion and the pump, the steering feels loose. Now the wheel moves several inches from side to side before it ingages

  • @DRkangyo that sounds like a Faulty Rack and pinion... ive never heard of a rack do that..Ive heard of steering boxes that are SEVERELY warn out do that..I suggest checking to make sure you bolted and torqued all the bolts down properly.. if you did you got a bad rack... a really bad one

  • hey buddy please help me i can not get the rack nine off.

  • @adi11010 hey sorry i was busy with my 1998 caravans brake lines in Pennsylvania.. i got stuck out there for a week..Drop your cradle if you cant get them.. i needed to drop the aluminum suspension cradle to make room for getting my hands in to loosen those lines.. watch my video I tell you to lower the cradle.. good luck.. E-mail me at X905SpeedGTAx@aol.com I get email right to my phone

  • thanks for responding. i got that box moved. but now i am having trouble

removing the 2 lines. i am trying to see what open sise ranch fits and i

guess i might need a ranch with long end so i can open those lines. please

help me in regards to those lines.

  • hey buddy nice job. i have been watching the video you have posted and also i am trying to replace the rack and pinion my self on a dodge grand caravan 2006. i am having trouble removing the lines and the big bolt that is next to the line. i am using an extension and socket but i cant get the socket to fit on top to hold the nut because the nut keeps spinning. and i cant get the open ranch there because there is not enough room at the bottom. there is some type a box blocking my view please help

  • @adi11010 hey i sent you a msg before I dont know if you got it.. but that box in the way is the charcoal canister for your emissions system ( gas vapor )...do yourself a favor.. if you take that down, replace the hoses that are attached to it.. those vans are prone to havving cracked emissions lines and will throw a check engien light..let me know how your project comes out..as long as your van isnt the AWD model my procedure will work.. good luck.. let me know how it turns out

  • hello, I'm having a problem droping the rack & pin cuz the drivetrain is in the way, the van is a 3.8 awd plz help

  • @twgracia hey sorry i didnt get to you sooner I dont have it programmed to my cell phone to give me updates on my channel...listen you have AWD and i think there is a unit thats in the way of getting the driveshaft out.. I think this procedure is a bit more involved on the AWD models..Check out I belong to that site and i think you can find some usful info on there.. Im sorry I cant give you any advice other than the AWD device being in the way ( i think).. good luk

  • Thanx for the video, it is much more helpful than any manual. my leak turns out to be the 2 small lines that stay on the steering rack, aka "gear fluid lines" all else is all nice. a $30 repair but the work is almost what you needed to do. the rack needs to drop far enough to reach on top of it to change these lines. ?? How did you say u removed the 2 big steering lines from the rack ?? i cant find a way to reach them well enough. be well and mechanically sound my friend.

  • @oceic People Like you are the reason I make these Videos, Hope you found my channel helpful, and Please subscribe to my channel.. I removed the lines by dropping the engine cradle a few inches. If I were you I wouldnt try to use a line wrench, unless u have stubby ones. I used two standard wrenches the top was 18mm i think. Make sure its just the line. these racks in the 01-07 caravan are known for failure

  • How much for the new R&P? Did you buy new, used, or re-man?

So basically an 18mm socket, hammer or mallet, and a phillips head screwdriver? That's all you need? Just curious cuz the R&P is leaking like a siv on my wifes '02 Grand Caravan...I'm not VERY mechanically inclined, but I might give it a shot instead of bringing it in and paying over a grand to get it fixed.

  • @ph4ntomlord Hey where do you live?.. cause over a grand your getting ripped off.. it should cost no more than $550.00 and I live In long island, NY.. the part I purchased was Remanufactured and cost me $75.00... Rack and pinions new and rebuit range from $75.00 to $200.00 ...If you have patience try it out.. use my video..I still have the car, so subscribe for future videos.. good luck

  • @905speedgta I live in north east Minnesota, just found one at a Napa for $150.00. :)

  • @ph4ntomlord good luck.. hope the video helps.. dont forget to get a alignment after your done

  • I have a question I was told my rack and pinion was leaking is that mean I have to replace the whole rack and pinion pls advice?

  • @357sombra id look into where its leaking..maybe its leaking from the lines.. theres only a few places on the rack in which it can leak from ..and thats the left and right book and the two lines...if its leaking out of the boots, its time for a rebuild.. the factory racks from these cars were shit.. Subscribe to my channel i might of some future videos to help u out with this car

  • Clock Spring is the word you were looking for lol

  • Great video.... Is the procedure the same on 1999 mazda 626???

  • @dob62163 No idea.. i dont know the car.. some racks ive seen mounted on the firewall

  • you can condense some of the stuffs. not a newbie

at 10:51 This is not a project; it's a replacement of parts

  • @hom2fu Im not to sure how to respond to this, But yes it is a " replacement of parts' .. however, it is a project, a "how to" project...anything that involves research, material and Labor is considered a project.......

  • wow woww wwoo wht the fukt is it called??

  • ok im removing a broken rack from a dodge neon that was in a minor wreck.i removed everything already,im just having probems with the roller pin.my roll pin is thru the outside.any advice will help

  • Im having problems reinserting the pinion in the steering column. how do i do it?

  • @jpalencia1983 I sent you a msg check your inbox

  • how you put the 2 lines to the rack back

  • @jpalencia1983 Lower the engine cradle some more...you can drop the whole cradle if you need to, but remember, disconnect anything thats attached to it.. I believe for mine wich is a 2003 had a ABS solonid or some sort of device attached to the drivers side cradle

  • So how did you get the nut off that long bolt??? Its a lil issue for me.

  • @MojilesMusic Drop the cradle alittle but, you can access that area with a vise grip or a wrench

  • Great video. I have one question. How can I get a wrench on the top nut of the large rack mounting bolt on drivers side? I can't seem to get enough room to get up there. Thanx

  • @Jetjock101 I didnt have any probs with those bolts. You might have to drop the cradle alittle bit, the shop manual I left really didnt help much. good luck with the two lines running to the rack they are hard to get to without lowering the rack alittle bit. remember those lines are 18mm, dont use a line wrench you will be there forever. btw I think I used a socket and breaker bar on that nut on top. I really didnt have any probs with them. let me know how it turns out.

  • @Jetjock101 i got new videos comming out on my caravan, so if you like subscribe to my channel
