True to a point. Only the tower generation of Macs were upgradeable, and that is only if it was Mac compatible device. Yet as we know it, 95% of all Macs have no upgrade options. Unlike on most PC or laptops you have options to remove part of the casing to upgrade the ram or hdd. So if you wanted a larger / faster hdd or more ram in your all in one mac / monitor. Good luck finding a way to open it up.

not true. the powerbook G3 (2000) was upgradable to leopard (2008) when a G4 proc card was added. and mac's are supported VERY well with software updates
This is preposterous, installing Vista on an aging XP machine is like giving it AIDS and cancer at the same time. At least my Mac can die with dignity when I finally have to put it down and upgrade. People that honestly think they can keep upgrading a 5+ year old machine to keep it current without spending MORE than a whole new computer are either stupid or only kidding themselves.
1. Vista, at least for me, does not include any productivity improvements.
2. Vista still does not remember desktop layouts when going between resolutions. If I connect an external projector, my 2560x1600 neatly layed out desktop is destroyed to fit the smaller projector res. When I switch back to 2560x1600 it remains screwy.
3. Vista does not have IP configuration memory. I connect my laptop to a few networks. Some have DHCP some don't.
@Musiphonix4. Aero Glass provides a few UI improvements, but chews up heaps of battery, CPU and memory.
5. 2GB of RAM is barely enough to run Vista with some big apps or games. Going 4GB waste RAM because 32 bit OS cannot address it all. And 64bit OS has limited drivers and supported applications. can tell even more fails but im tired now.
I remember when I tried "upgrade" my xp to vista and then to 7, after that my all programs has died... cool "upgrade" have pc... on Mac I have upgraded from Tiger to Leopard without data lose and later when I bought a new computer and install Snow leopard I have copy all my data and setting with one click... so I still think that Mac have better "upgrade" system.
@SpideYDxB just buy the card and replace it... btw drivers and other shit things not needed, it's already installed for all supported graphic cards with system.
@f937r Yeah, I don't really get it. Upgrading is like the exact same process on both OS's. I used Mac OS 9 for 8 or so years, XP for 8 or 9, then OS X for about 4 now. They both have their advantages...but I can say that upgrading is just about as easy on one as it is on the other. Not too difficult either way.

@MrSquishles, Playonlinux simply implements following features, that are of course do-able via terminal: run wine apps physically separated(prefix stuff), preconfigured setup(mounting disks, getting and appying patches etc), setting wine version per-application(this one is tricky to do manually), dosbox integration. Matter of choice.

2. Vista still does not remember desktop layouts when going between resolutions. If I connect an external projector, my 2560x1600 neatly layed out desktop is destroyed to fit the smaller projector res. When I switch back to 2560x1600 it remains screwy.
3. Vista does not have IP configuration memory. I connect my laptop to a few networks. Some have DHCP some don't.

@Musiphonix4. Aero Glass provides a few UI improvements, but chews up heaps of battery, CPU and memory.
5. 2GB of RAM is barely enough to run Vista with some big apps or games. Going 4GB waste RAM because 32 bit OS cannot address it all. And 64bit OS has limited drivers and supported applications. can tell even more fails but im tired now.

I remember when I tried "upgrade" my xp to vista and then to 7, after that my all programs has died... cool "upgrade" have pc... on Mac I have upgraded from Tiger to Leopard without data lose and later when I bought a new computer and install Snow leopard I have copy all my data and setting with one click... so I still think that Mac have better "upgrade" system.

@f937r Yeah, I don't really get it. Upgrading is like the exact same process on both OS's. I used Mac OS 9 for 8 or so years, XP for 8 or 9, then OS X for about 4 now. They both have their advantages...but I can say that upgrading is just about as easy on one as it is on the other. Not too difficult either way.

But for all other oses, you either reinstall from scratch or get pretty much messed-up system. Imagine two-headed pc guys, sorta such.
Even linux,like ubuntu, does not upgrade flawlessly. The only ones seamlessly upgrading are rolling distros, like debian testing/sid, archlinux or gentoo. But never the less on linux you have massive superiority: You just need to copy your /home/ dir and all app settings are saved.
