The origin of Capoeira is actually unknown. It is very educated-ly guessed that Capoeira was a fighting style developed as a dance by Afro-Brazilian slaves to hide its true intentions from slave masters. Not only that, but the meaning of Capoeira has changed over time referring to classes of people, the dance, the fighting style, and so on. Feel free to share your opinion but don't fight for it unless you know its 100% true.
your an idiot music capoeira is a fighting style the slaves were forbidden to learn to fight so it was invented b/c it looked like a dance so they could train and not be punished.......dont be stupid
gosh non of u really understand what really is capoeira...It's a game, a martial art dance..A martial art that has a game and it was designed to look like a dance too fool slave masters. it is a martial it's not for u to just play like a jackass so i dont know what u ppl are saying but it's just a game...Ppl just dont trust it enough to fight with...But as they were saying on this modern marvel show that it is the most dangerous martial.. one move ends a fight just try to figure out which one
My partner won't show me her capoeira, I think its cause she's super bad ass. and she knows I do BJJ and have an interest in incorporating the two and doesn't want me to go do something stupid to by self, haha.
This is very well done and answered an idle question that needed a response. From what I have read (if I recall corectly), the performance of the players can also be dependent upon the pace of the berimbau's tempo. Was I right to see that example here?
i dont kno why people get all up set over this comment when it's true. capoeira is a game/dance to hone skills needed in a fight not an actually sparring match like tae kwon do and jiu jitsu.
the jogo is the game not Capoeira. In or out the roda your still using Capoeira so to call it just a game would be incorrect. It can be used to play, it can be used to dance, and it can be used to fight. It can be all, or none of these things.
@musicismyheart56 you are dumb......capoeira is incredible martial arts.....the gracies added true capoeira fighting with jiu jitsu to create Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you watch Fight Science you will see that Capoeria fighters supercede all the other fighters in strength, agility and balance....If you are gonna try and sound smart, you should atleast study what you are talking about first,
But if it's to hone skills needed in a fight then technically it is martial arts, because thats what karate or kung fu or tar kwon do etc etc are, they help hone skills needed in fights or self defense...
@musicismyheart56 They get made because they know youre not a Capoeirista if you can say that capoeira isnt for fighting with when most of us have the wounds to prove otherwise. If youve never been in a roda, how do you know its not sparring? Granted there are a some schools that teach capoeira as more of a dance but most good capoeira academies laugh at them lol.
@musicismyheart56 I think, you're right. I believe, the best categorisation (if any) is of a game. You can play it hard, or soft. If you play it hard enough, and train your self to it, you'll gain martial attributes (speed, power, etc.)
@musicismyheart56 sorry to disagree, I am not upset, but I will take exception to that comment. if you tone down the dance elements and emphasize the striking, Capoeira can be as devastating a martial art as any. take a look at this clip.. you can see him in the dance aspect doing tricks, etc and then you see him striking, which shows a harder, more combative, striking ability.
@musicismyheart56 You don't 'hone fighting skills' without fighting, that's marketing BS. Doing acrobatics makes your an acrobat; fighting makes you a fighter.
@musicismyheart56 I totally agree. Capoeira is a game, it's something you play, not fight. Rodas are all about strategy and quick thinking while you're playing. It's also a ton of fun.
@musicismyheart56 They get upset because it's like saying TKD is not for a real fight, that it is only used in simulated combats where points are used, I'm shure if one of these Capoeira practiosioners kicks someone or hits them with a reverse fist blow they will go down or atleast get hurt by the impact just as with any other style of martial art, and no I my self do not practice it but I have seen it used at a fast pace wich is when it does most of the damage
@fushigilady You go girl...I am da only CHICK in my class also but that aint stopping me from goin da next day, or da day after. It just makes me stronger to fight and more determined to believe in ma self!!!
