  • My imac g5 1st gen (without camera and powerpc processor) takes 60sec to startup.

  • @97pinedaHD Well that's the hard drive, hard drives get slower and slower over the years. Put an SSD like the Intel has. Boom!

Remember this isn't fair. The RAM and Hard Disc is really allowing the Intel to win.

  • I'm on an iMac G5 right now! And it is NOT that slow at starting up. The black screen does NOT sit that long and the white one with the apple shows for only seconds. I was wondering if THAT one ever would! I'm running on a fresh installation of Leopard, and I have many large games and apps installed and many programs that run in the background on startup (like dropbox and skype) so this is a poor representation.

  • I do not like that name

  • G5 suck I can't use garage band with g5

  • Mine does not have intel and it is not that slow

  • the g5 has most likely never been cleaned up since ever.

  • iFuck iNtel iNside a iMac

  • my imac g3 boots just a little slower than the one on the left. and its running tiger.

  • the g5 probably has a dieing hdd

  • 269 don't realize it doesn't mean a flying fuck in a rabbit hutch how fast it takes to start-up, but about what it can actually do!!

  • my goodness domething is seriously wrong with the imac g5 i mean i understand the intel at 45 secs but the g5 shouldn't take a minute and forty-five seconds to start up. my ibook starts up in about 1 minute to 1 minute 10 seconds and its running leopard but really an imac g5 shouldn't take that long

  • @trainrider110 indeed, my iMac G5 on Leopard takes about 50 seconds to boot up and display the dock. Heck even my 1 GHz PowerBook G4 boots Tiger in about 40 seconds.

  • my standard mac-book boots up faster than that xD

  • Are you kidding me? My Circa 1986 Macintosh SE/HD boots off of floppy into Mac OS 3 in 20 seconds! What is this?

  • my 700mhz 2002 emac boots in like 45-50 seconds

  • ...My Beige G3 w/G4 upgrades boots up like 2x faster than this...

  • my imac g3 boots faster than both of these and it is running 10.4

  • intel mac= now the same as your avarge pc

  • Fuck THAT!!! MY PERFORMA 638CD FROM 1994 BOOTS FASTER!!!!!!

  • How do you fucken load FL Studio, Pro Tools, or any music making software on this shit g5???????? HELP.. FUCK MAC APPLE FUCKS

  • @ZERO198033 No, you're just an idiot.

  • i have the left computer =)

  • The G5 for sure has something wrong with it! Mine is a 2004 G5 & starts much faster than that!!!

  • dang! the imac intel is much faster then the imac g5

  • holy crap that g5 took forever, I don't really like G5s though

  • Wow, what a groundbreaking experiment, so glad that you shared this with the world. Does Glenn Beck know about this?

  • macrumors sux!

  • like many people have already said that something is wrong..cause I have a g4 mac and it boots and the desktop comes up real fast..so I think that Mac there had an issue

  • def something wrong, that G5 imac was made in at least 2004, not 1997

  • umm there's something wrong with your imac g5.. myne doesn't take nearly that long! lol

  • you fuck :| a hobo ?

  • my ppc g5 boots fatsre than both of these. plus the faggots in the video sounds gay as fuck

  • @LOLOMGZZZZZ God, you're such a douche.

  • G5 on the iMac was such a fail cause of bad capacitors andit was so slow it rocked in the Power Mac G5 tho otherwise known as the tower but those had WC problems not all models tho i still want a imac G5 though

  • Wintel still sucks balls

  • That one on the right must be somehow screwed up or purposely downgraded in some way. I have a Power Macintosh 6100 with a Sonnet G4 upgrade and it boots Mac OS 8.6 much faster than that left one. Note: Mac OS 8.6 was the first ever OS used for the G4 processor. It takes only 7 seconds from power on to desktop. Mac OS 9 took 13 seconds. My iMac G5 RevA takes less than half the time than the right one did.

  • How many times is that fucking nerd going to say, "wow." Shut the fuck up nerd.

  • this is wrong… my 2002 G4 eMac is quicker than that in the right

  • Geez, my old PowerMac G3 boots up faster than that.

  • @Jesermay mine too

  • @supershadowaaron my g3 boots faster

  • @appleeimac thats sad

  • Sorry to say, but there both Intel's, the ppc ones have no iSight nor do they have front row

  • @Carbonized433 Actually you are 100% wrong. Because the 3rd and final version of the imac g5 does have and isight and front row. Please research before you state inaccurate facts.

  • @nathan8BIT Whatever -_-.

  • @Carbonized433 False. My last one was a ppc and owned iSight. Get informations before talking shit

  • @BobbyBaloney who was asking you? dip shit. Anyway, are you such a prick that you cant see I've already been corrected?

  • Intel rules...jajajajaj

  • what the FUCK have you fed to that Imac g5? mine is ready to use in 20 seconds

  • Does it really matter? lol the iMac G5 is a good computer regardless its just older and has a single core processor. I just don't see why this is so shocking it only took the g5 a little over a minute. But i guess some people just need/crave the newest and fastest thing out there.

  • Oh I also own and use a g5 dp1.8g, Intel duo core 1.8, p4 2.4 and a quad zeon 3.4

  • This comparison is way off. First off, they are imacs. Both are made with laptop components.

Intel is a dual, g5 is single.

G5 is 600mhz FSB and there is no telling if the Intel is a 663 or 1066mhz FSB.

And yes hard drive failure is very possible when your hard drive is no bigger than a credit card.

  • NERDS

  • @rameenafshardotcom

Your definition of nerd is horrible.

  • idc who you are intel blows dick regardless.

    overpriced.

    all about the name

    made in fucking india.

    AMD - mostly cheaper.

    just as fast

idk where they make there chips but fuck india.

  • Simple minded apple fags refuse to believe an Intel processor is way faster. NEWS FLASH. G5 IS OLD TECHNOLOGY. Why do you think they switched to Intel?

  • g5 fucking sucks. nuff said and proven here. Intel Dual Core is WAY faster.

  • No way my system statrts as fast as the intel this is a sales ploy. Wankers.

  • xD

you can win ipods, imacs and many more products just by watching videos through a website. Its free.

You can visit my video for more info!

  • '

both imacs are make in asia,,,

    not american make it

  • My g4 imac boots faster than that g5 imac. Seriously.

  • @beingwon My G4 boots faster too. The one in the video must have a failing hard drive or something.

  • something not right there. my 2000 iMac G3 boots up in 49 seconds. there's no way it should beat a G5

  • True, Mine is the new Aluminum with a white back case and it boots up in 20-25 seconds, tomorrow apples computers will boot up in 1 second.

  • @Coldacre I think the computer in the video has a failing hard drive or something.

  • hey description: WHICH ONE IS WHICH??

  • @willprich if you listen he mentioned it, the left one is the intel one

  • somethings wrong I got 20" G5 that boots way faster than that

  • the iMac on the right

  • the iMac on the DX has got some problem!! my FUCKING Windows XP booting up faster then iMac on DX

  • @RangeTDV6 what is DX?

  • @mrwireful10000 in the right

  • He probably loaded up the G5 with a load of crap, or someone totally abused it beforehand!

  • How many programs run on startup for the G5? How much ram do they both have? What is the clock speed for both of them, comparing a 1.8ghz G5 to a 2.4ghz Intel Mac isn't fair. Whats the hard drive speed on the G5? Graphics cards? The lack of information makes this comparison UTTER SHIT, and should not be taken the least bit seriously.

  • the experiment was only to show how fast the intel is to the G5

  • UNTRUE!!! iMac g5 (power w/o cam) works fine :). Mine starts much faster.

  • This video is completely inaccurate. I syncronised my iMac G5 boot with the video, and, it finished at least 15 seconds sooner.

  • Faulty G5. Get a working one and do the test again.

  • my 3 year old out of date pc is way faster than that g5.

  • It depends what g5 are u talking about?

  • Its a mac.They are really fast.

  • There is something wrong with the g5 mac you show, i have just done this test and my g5 boots slightly faster than my intel imac....very little in it but my g5 has a new 500gb harddrive fitted.

  • thats not true i want to see about this mac

  • i just upgraded my g5 to 2gb ram and leopard recently, and it seems at par with that intel. idk wtf they did to that g5 to make it boot so slow...

  • Did someone sabotage that poor G5 or something? Mine beats that one by at least half the time! This initial switch on time is accurate though.

  • the g5s preformance was a lie

  • That G5 is slow even compared to my old TiBook! My Aluminum 1.67 G4 w/ 2gb ram boots up in 10 seconds to Leopard.

  • impossible.

  • thats not impossible. If you maintain your system well.

  • do sombody hear bout ram?

  • my emac g4 is faster than the imac g5 lol

  • IKR, my Powermac G4 is faster than the G5!

  • you suck

  • THANK YOU

  • Woah, that G5 fails. Mine boots up A LOT faster.

  • True, My PPC was boot more faster than some bad optimised intel. This iMac need a re-install or hardware repair

  • And how to we know which one is faster? The intel one could be newer, more ram, faster ram, faster hdd, ect.

  • That can't be! My G5 is really a lot faster!

  • lol the right one is super slow!

  • why compare? i can care less about how fast it is as long as it can suit my needs.

  • Wow. My G5 does NOT take this long to start up.

  • I can't remember that MY G5 takes 1:40 mins to boot!

  • My G5 1.6GHZ Boots in like 15 seconds.

  • that ppc is sl;ower than my one

  • lulz my PowerMac g4 933 1.5gb of ram boots way faster than that on leopard implus...

  • yeah but the isight g5 might be packed with software cause mine takes a while to boot cause i have so many programs and stuff on the ahrddrive compiared to my powerbook with nothing on it booting way faster

  • iSight G5? My 4 year old iBook G4 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, running Tiger 10.4.11 boots faster than that G5, and that's saying a LOT. Jeez, that thing took like 5 seconds to turn on the backlight and it hung FOREVER at the grey apple. Mine seems like it takes a while at the grey apple, but then there's no loading time for the "Starting Mac OS X" screen, it just flashes, then disappears.

  • Leopards alot more complicated than Tiger though , I used both Os's on the same Macbook and the Tiger was faster but again iMacs G5's were made for Tiger and Intels were made for Leopard ,

  • Not true. Tiger had only been out for a year when Intels came out. Also, the first iMac G5 came with Panther...

  • Both computers are intel. I have both a G5 and intel imac. the g5 does not have an isight. So I am sure if this is typo.

  • The later revisions of the iMac G5 came with an iSight, my friend has one.

  • my athlon x2 6000+ with vista is faster than both lol

  • haha, vista poor bastad!!

  • dont care i start my computer anyways only for gaming

  • Comment removed

  • "I'm gonna post this up on the web. Right away."

Why? There's clearly something wrong with the G5.

  • The one on the right needs its PRAM reset. My Dual-867 MDD boots faster than that.

  • My G3 IBook 600 and G4 Emac 1.42 boots up a whole lot faster than that.

  • powerPC sucks, good job intel because powerPC is unable to handle what intel can

  • PowerPC does not suck but is unfortunately a victim of anaemic development and neither Freescale/Motorola nor IBM can compete with Intel's development speeds really.

But this video is quite extraordinary, I've never seen a Mac take that long to boot. My PowerMac G5 boots about as fast as the Intel on the left. If the iMac G5 really does always boot that slow it really must be proper turd...

  • They should have repeated this test actually, to see whether it's some caching going on.

  • well at a point in time ppcs were way lower speeds than intel but beat them out but that was with all there horrible processors up and lastly to the p4, (mhz myth)

  • fuck u

  • There's something wrong with the G5. It should be booting much faster than that. 30 seconds tops!

  • powerpc 4-life!

  • that one on the right must be fucked up. my g4 boots up quicker than that.

  • I'm really more of a PC guy, I haven't really owned a mac, but even I can tell something is more than likely wrong with that one lol.

  • Is this what nerds do with their spare time?

  • yes

  • That G5 is setting up some Cache kexts and the like. The Intel obviously already has those setup.

One minute boot to pass the gray screen is SLOWER than my G3 300 running 10.1 and 10.1 is slowest OSX of them all.

  • my iMac g5 with isight boots up in 20 seconds!!!

  • WTF my iMac G5 boots up in about 40 seconds, it is a non isight 17" 1.8GHz iMac G5. There is obviously something wrong with that iMac

  • i agree.

  • I noticed something. I have a first generation G5 1.8ghz 20" and a second generation (isight) G5 1.9Ghz 17". So i noticed that the 20" is faster booting. The second generation needs a lot of time for the initialization.

I think i gonna make a movie like this whit both my iMac's :P

  • Dude I swear that my G4 is a lot faster at least booting up than both of those not trying to sound cocky or nothing

  • your iMac G4? same here mine boots up in like 30seconds all together sometimes earlier

  • if im right that test was not fair because the g5 is not the new one so might have a lot more programes on it so that could affect the boot time lol

  • wich is one?? fuck! why you does not identify them ;S

  • The left one is intel... He said that.

  • that was tooooo slow

  • i'm watching this on a G5 PPC 17inch and it sure boots up a hell of a lot quicker than that one.I think there's something wrong..

  • I agree im watching it on a dual 1.8GHZ G5 PowerPC Mac and its a shit load faster then that... no more then ..15seconds.

  • my ibook g4 boots faster than my aunts aluminum imac. i think you get more for the money with powerpc than intel. same true with my mothers 2.33ghz dell. my 1.42ghz ibook is way faster than that. pathetic.

  • i have been running vista on my intel imac for months.

it even updates with no problems at all. the downside is that it wont let me reboot os x tiger on it. the reason i ended up running vista on it is because lost installation disk & have downloaded endless tiger restore disk & so far none have worked. any 1 got any ideas . much appreciated.

  • yah, that guy below me is right, something is definately wrong with the g5.. i just booted my 1.9ghz g5 powerpc to your video, and it was only around a 10-20 sec. difference. i'm not biased, because i own a 24" intel as well. i know it's reasonably faster, but not that much

  • You guys suck!

  • My imac G5 is an older model than that one and it boots a lot faster than that one. Something wrong there.

  • the left one is a intel...

  • How full was the hard drive on the right side?

  • Umm dude my G3 iMac boots up faster than that G5...somethin isn't right.

  • I'm with you, my G3 400Mhz tower boots faster than the one on the right, there must be something wrong. I'm not saying it will beat a dual core, but it's not like that one on the right

  • wooow. apple used to make fun of intel....pff OWNED

  • DDAAYYUUMMM!!!!!!!!

  • i think that guy in the background who's saying that his dual core G5 boots faster needs to realize that intel is better then power pc... i hope that all mac fans who think that ppc is better then intel have opened there eyes by this point.

  • Why? the ppc can handle more memory than most 64 bit systems, It also handles office tasks faster and the only reason mac switched to intel was to run windows, which sucks anyway. From this we can assume ppc - AWSSOMEEE! intel - lol

  • not true. the only reason apple switched to intel is because the G5 uses too much power. search around on YouTube and find that video where Jobs announces the switch to intel. They'll explain everything.

  • Jobs could say eliphants could fly and people would throw them of buildings, regardless the PPC is by far the better chipset, that and a lot of servers use the PPC chip still, just because of the memory (Flash, RAM, HDD) compatability. On top of that most Linux based companies still use the ppc for similar reasons.

  • look all i know is that my intel MacBook is a hell of a lot faster then my friends iBook G4. Im not sure about the G5 because i don't know anyone who has one. but i mean there is a video on youtube thats ^^^^^^^ right up there that shows how fast the G5 is.

  • That video "^^^^^^^" right up there is between a 3 year old G5 and a brand new intel. The guy during the vidio even says "Well thats not fair" that and my old G4, which i keep clean and do checks about once every 3 months still outperforms my dads 2gig intel duo machine. Ive even got a "New World" machine running Ubuntu and its by far one of the fastest at my workplace all on a ppc chipset.

  • No, they switched to intel because Intel got their act together and created a great cpu. It runs much more efficiently and performs tons better. Instead of assuming things, how about you go read up about it and check out some benchmarks. Intels new processors are great, I was shocked as well to find Intel finally making great processors.

I ran benchmarks with my 2.4ghz Q6600 Core 2 Quad against a 2.6 ghz G5 Quad Mac Pro, and my Intel scored much higher, it was a big difference.

  • Hi, dual core will always be faster than single core. When will people learn that PowerPC was 128Bit whereas idiots at Intel are still working on 64Bit? Dual G5's with lower clock-speed will kill any dual-core Intel outright. Learn your computer architecture please.

I've seen a 900MHz G4 iBook kill a 2GHz Pentium 4 Vaio desktop. Know why? They were both single-core processors.

  • i know that, but the g5 is a dual core processor (at least it is in the mac pro, im not sure about the imac) and so is the intel in this imac. they're both dual cores.

  • Imac has duel core 2.8 ghz mac pro has 8 core 3.2 ghz.

  • yea i made a mistake in there somewhere... i honestly dont remember my thought process that day.

  • I thought the number of bits defined how it saved data types on the RAM? and how fast it did so

  • Macs suck

  • Just like ur mom.

  • I bet you don't have one...

  • GOD my g4 boots way faster then that g5.

  • i still prefer the G-series PPC chips over the intels. The PPC architecture is still used in servers, clusters, and supercomputers, most notably by IBM... there must be a reason.

the PPC arch. is alos used in the PS3, and Xbox For the cpu. (wii is prolly some type of ARM or something) I am not a fanboy or a hater, but PPC 4 Ever! Nice vid... but i don't think the experiment was set up using the full scientific method to prove validity.

Did they have the same clockspeed? Ram? HDD speed?
