I googled to find out the name of the person singing the song.....have to admit ....was surprised it was a black guy :) You would never know it by listening but because its a country song, its a little surprise :) Great song, he is a good country singer :)

PS i never new a black guy sang this (no efface) i love this song, Darius is amazing(=

  • effance? You mean offense?....Jesus effance lol

  • beautiful voice

  • Darius is NOT formerly of Hootie & the Blowfish. They have NOT broken up. They are still together. They are taking some time for solo projects but are still performing as a group. He lives in my hometown of Charleston, SC.

  • Um Shut up dumb-ass!

  • Umm, why should I? I'm sure I know more about him than you'll ever know. His country cd is one of the hottest around right now. The music is great and he's having a ball with it. He's always loved Country music.

  • Darius could sing the phone book and it would be awesome !! One of the purest talents of his time ! ( Glad he's gone country !!! )

  • wow, what an amazing song & voice

  • all I can say is "damn hootie"

  • Hes way talented I love this song it makes me cry everytime. And Darius sings with such deep passion . I loose it everytime he says the part about lifting the vail.

  • He has a sexy voice

  • This guy is great---he has a great voice, and I've loved him since he was "Hootie". What an awesome voice to listen to. I'm glad he's decided to go country!!! He's so cool!!!

  • Comment removed

  • darius is fuckin amazing!...by the way charlie pride was black and he was good also, my dad used to listen to him all the time

  • Another song with the same message is by Sawyer Brown, it's called "Ive been in your shoes." But it's about sons, this is about daughters. I dedicate this to Kisten and Alison. I love you both so very very much

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Is he the ONLY Black country singer? Just wondering

  • no he is not the only black singer...just probably one of the more famous, hence it only seems asif he is the ONLY Black country singer...

  • There are definitely others, isn't Cowboy Troy black?

  • Of course not, like classic said, probably the most popular...

theres rissi palmer. love her song

    "country girl" youtube it!

  • No, lori lynnette is a very good country singer who also happens to be black, youtube her she is very good

  • The second time i heard it on the radio, my brother in law and my niece came into my mind. i dedicate this to them.=] It has a message out for those dads out there. Too spend time as much as possible with your loved ones. Amazing voice. Gifted of course! Because when they perform live like this, their voice crack up like HECKA. Not his.

  • love this song and him he is so good

  • Incredible song. Perfect voice to sing it.

  • great song, great performer.

  • When I found out this guy was black, I gained so much respect for him. I like the fact that he is a civilized black man not making that rap (crap) junk.

  • i agree totally!!

    add plzz!!

  • your obviously a racist. There should be no reason to make a comment like that! ! ! What if he was white would you suck his dick cause he sung a GREAT song.

  • You gained respect for him AFTER you found out he was black?? What a stupid thing to say. Any reasonably intelligent person knows that all black people to do rap. How do you feel about white guys that do rap? You respect them? Stop putting people in a box!!

  • very well put

  • Hootie and the Blowfish was awesome but I LOVE his new country style :) Wonderful song.

  • i am getting married to an amazing girl in just 16 days....she has a 5 yr old daughter that is an absolute handful.....

I was having second thoughts until I heard this song, it made me cry thinking of what a mistake i would have made

  • my older bro almost did the same exact thing..i never saw him cry until he realized how much of a mistake he would have made..so good for you!!!

  • I cry every time hear this song. I gave my baby girl away to her husband this past December and saw my boy away on his deployment to Afgahistan as an EOD (bomb squad) technician in January. Finally, after 38+ years, I understand that look on my parents' faces when I told them that I had enlisted in the military while the Vietnam War was at it's peak. It's a pain and a fear that only a parent can know.

  • That should have been Afghanistan.

  • I cry everytime I hear this song as well, and I am not the "crying" type. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through, but because I have 2 small children, I am sure that in due time I will *sigh* ... I think when we become parents, something that we may have done to our parents comes back to us and never leaves. I hope your son returns for good & that you have a fulfilled life with your family :)

  • ok im not gonna be raciest but when i first heard this song i thought u were white great job dude=}

  • I never noticed how great his voice was till I heard this song. Ties in a lot of things in my life...soul enriching song really.

Wishes, hope..the fight of the darkness and the lights in my life. (niece and nephew) *This phase is going to fly by if you can just hold on* tc all. Thankyou for putting this video up btw, love the in studio bit. think it makes a bigger impact for his voice as well. try 2 enjoy what greatness you have or make in life ,another year passes & U wonder where its gone

  • DarkLordHawk... You won't be 19 for long; enjoy it while you can. Again, sorry for being a horse's ass.

  • I think this song is very well done he wont have a sing this big for a long time

  • Cool. All day yesterday I was bugged by my words to you and knew I had to apologize. Just not like me to do that and I was pissed at myself that I did. Sometime email, IMing, and this type of communication is a good thing, and sometimes it's just not wise to hit "send"! I do know when I f-up I have to admit to it, and I did and I am. Have a great day.

  • p.s. I bet you don't hear this song ever again and not think of me! ;-)

  • Truce, DarkLord Hawk. I dont' know your situation, you don't know mine and we all have our feelings and opinions. I apologize for this getting into a fight; it was lame of me and pretty immature on my part. Keep doing your community service as an Eagle Scout and enjoy being only 19. Life doesn't get any easier. Again, sorry for the diarhea of the mouth and my hollier than thou attitude.

  • But it's ok for YOU to call me names?

I'm not a liberal, I'm a human being who happens to care about people. I volunteer for Hospice - people who are dying - no matter what their "color" is. What do you do to give back to the community? Just give it up. Even your name is sad and pathetic.

  • and you're a DICK

  • NPR SUCKS! Darius is the dookie though!

  • This guy is amazing. Probably the best country singer in the world. My dad showed me this song, and he was right. It's meaning is so strong.

  • ok so he is hottt as heell =)

  • i thought this is going to be the best song that he does for along time.

  • I just saw him in concert! hes so great and Id love to tell him that hes the one who inspired me to write my first song! Now Im working on a whole collection and my goal is to make it big someday! Darius, If you somehow get this, THANX SO MUCH!

  • I just love this song so much! He has a wonderful voice!

  • I love this song!

  • This video is sooooooo good.....I love this song so much I am lookin for the CD if any of you where I can get it.

  • I like Darius Rucker, pretty good singer and his songs seem to have a pretty good message judging from this and his other single. I'm a minority, not black though, Asian, but still curious about minority country artists, and Cowboy Troy was such a let down, seem to cling onto the whole black people and rap stereotype by doing rap/country songs, total garbage.

  • pretty good singer??? darius is a very talented singer who is also a natural for country music ... very talented ... great voice. and the song is beautiful . i have a little girl who happens to be my life. anyone dad who does would certainly love this song. keep making great music darius.

  • Who cares if it's a "black" man. Hello? We're in 2009. Listen to the words.

  • @anniem28 Exactly my thoughts. It's pathetic the comments I've seen on other videos of the same song. People need to wake up and see that it's not okay to be racist. Just because he's african american doesn't make him less of a good singer as a matter of fact it makes him better because he's overcoming all the people who judge him because of his race.

  • Darius Rucker is amazing! This song is so true....LOVE IT!!

  • Not a problem, wasn't trying to single you out from the group.

I knew what you meant in your first statement, and was just reflecting on it.

  • it's not the matter of his skin that makes this song.

What matters is the fact that it touches people both Fathers, and families.

It's life in general.instead of the usual bullshit that comes across the airwaves now a days.

Refreshing to hear something that is true and meaning in this crazy world we all live in.

  • I can't help tearing up every time I hear this song...even though I'm only 15 my little cousin is 3 and Iove her soo soo much and can't imagine her growing up and same for my little sister (8)...

  • What a tear jerker! This song is awesome. Thank you, Darius, for reminding us to cherish our children and not get overwhelmed with life's little hiccups!

  • It's a beautiful thing when music changes your life...this song does that! My daughter is now 7, and I needed a fresh perspective--something different from the constant nagging and correcting. I am enlightened! Thank you Darius!

  • Amen to that. I have two girls, 17 & 8. Definetely learned the hard way on the first daughter. Hate to see them go...

  • My sons are 5 and 4. It seems they were just babies, but time flys. I'm practicing and signing them up for baseball now when I used to be able to hold them both in one hand.

This songs brings this all into focus. Hootie and now this...awesome!

  • Darius Rucker is amazing! This song is so true, it made me cry! I was always daddy's little girl and still am even as a junior in college. This makes me think of all the great memories and time spent with my daddy and all the memories and time I have to look forward to.

  • good lord he has a sexy voice

  • I already dug the radio version of this song, the unplugged radio spot just shows just how talented Darius is. Great Groove.

  • LUV IT

  • Amazing voice, amazing guitar. Perfect song.

  • It hurts how fast our kids grow up and songs like these remind us how every moment we have with them is a blessing! Enjoy every moment you have

  • thus song is so great my mother and father both remind me of this song i love my family!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG... DON'T YOU...

  • For the first year of my daughter's life, she went to bed everynight listening to Hootie & the Blowfish. My husband had dicovered that first week we brought her home from the hospital, that it was the only thing one night that made her stop crying. Now she is 13, and this song makes me cry! I love it!

  • he is ahmazing!

  • amazing

  • "Golden Pipes"

  • Wow...Blown away! LIVE!

  • Omg!!! he is so amazing. This is my Favorite song now. lol I LOVE his voice. And it is one of those songs that u really understand whats he is saying. It just so beautiful

  • i hate country music slightly less now.

  • I agree this is a great song

  • This Song Is One Of My Favorites Because It Has Along Of Meaning For A Father That is In My Shoes With His Kids

  • This is a great song, he has a warm, mellow voice that I love, but I can't agree that this is this generations Cats in the Cradle. That wonderful song is about a father with no time for his child and his regrets that his child grew up with no time for him. This is more of a trying to hold on to the precious moments of baby and childhood that go by all too fast.

  • Amazing talent works because it's amazing. Call him Darius, Hootie, Country, Pop, Soul, but whatever you do don't forget to call his name for album of the year at the ACM, CMA and maybe a Grammy for Country album.

  • I love this song. its my favorite. and I love how Darius made the transition. he's an amazing singer, no matter what genre he sings.

  • not really into country music, but this is great music.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen welcome Darius with this song as this generation's Cats in the Cradle.

  • any Mom or Dad can relate ...

    sweet,and so very true.

Darius Rucker is a Class Act.

    Love this Song.

  • my keyboardung teacher heard this song and couldn't not figure out who it was by or what it was called and she found it we were literally dancing in class and jumping around and screaming. i was so excited she found it because she had been talking about it for like two weeks and then we found. me and all the other kids couldn't wait to here it and we all decided that it was officially our calss song and we all really liked it. it is the most amazing and you can tell he poured his heart into it.

  • OMG...Heart & Soul ..

love...love...love it and really anything he sings. he truly is in his element here...

    the Best.

  • Simply put......It's real.

  • wow. they sound great.

  • I'm a hardcore gangsta, but I think I just felt something tickle my cheek. Great song!!!

  • gangsta lol wigggggaaaaaaaa

  • this song is great it reminds me of my daughter and how much i love her

  • Awesome. Simply Awesome. I loved Darius as a part of Hootie and the Blowfish, but I must admit that with country music--I think/hope he has found his calling. I echo the sentiment of Elneilo and wishes he stays on the country scene forever.

  • Wow. Listen to the harmony on that song!!

  • wow, this song really hits home for me, Welcome to Country Music Darius, please stay for the rest of your career

  • this guy is one damn good country singer keep up the good work

  • When u think of his past works, country seems to have been where his heart always was....I'm glad he's *home*.

WTF would someone like ME know about it, u ask? *lol*

Raised in TX, I endured my own country music phase for a year or two.
