speculation about? the african origin of canarios? the term canarios comes from the Canary Islands, which lie off the African coast, which became settled mostly by the Spanish but which had previous native populations. I've read in many CD inserts that, according to period sources, the dance was represented as being one from the islands' natives. Whether this is true or not, who knows. Google "granada doaba flamencologia" and the 1st result gives some relevant info, chapter 1 paragraph 7
