    I added the description.

  • fantastic, 5stars!!

  • "It ultimately got too expensive."

THEN CHANGE THE FUCKING DESIGN!!!!!!! Seriously, if you know that an aesthetic decision is going to hinder your overall vision, why sabotage yourself by keeping it?

  • Agreed.

  • Well, maybe it was too late by the time they realize that it was too difficult to make more robots.

I mean, wouldn't changing the design and adding more robots based on the modified design cost more??

  • It wouldn't have cost more if he wasn't so quick to throw his original vision under the bus.

    BAY:

I want to have 20 Autobots and have them speak at least twice as much as the humans.

    ILM:

But Mr. Bay, these designs you gave us won't allow for that kind of budget. :S

    BAY:

Fine. Make it 5 Autobots and give them a page & a half of dialog. Problem solved.

  • I can see your point.

But still, I preferred the movie's design to the original one if someone actually has to put those robots on the screen as if they are real. They are living things, just extraterrestrial, so they were needed to be life-like, and needed to look as if they are trying to disguise as the human's machines.

To me, they are "robots in disguise" after all (pretty much like human soldiers wearing cow suits to disguise as a part of the cattle herd during war).

  • Alien technology doesn't HAVE to be unrecognizable to human eyes (like the galaxy far, far away where the Star Wars saga takes place), and Cybertronian tech always looked very similar to our own.

Whether something is life-like or not all depends on the animation & voice acting, which was too minimal beyond giving exposition and setting up for the next explosion or bullettime kung fu move.

If Alternator toys can realistically & simplistically transform into Earth tech, so should the real TFs.

  • Star Wars doesn't have to be unrecognizable... yeah, I agree with that.

Well, in my point of view, in the movie version of Transformers, Cybertronian had to disguise themselves in order to hide themselves from people... like Sector 7. So they had to be unrecognizable, that's what I think...

Okay, maybe I am just a guy who loves to watch small metal parts and devices move around inside metallic robot or robotic organism. Plus, the robot design in the movie was something new for me. Sorry, man

  • Yeah, that's what their Earth modes are for. But their tech (as seen in robot mode) is supposed to be very recognizable to us, almost as if we could build something like them in the near future.

Seeing all the little bits WAS interesting, I'll give you that, but it was simply not congruent with anything Cybertronian we've seen for the last 24 years, and it was too expensive for the story that needed to be told. We're supposed to love these character for who they ARE, not what they're made of.

  • Man... I am amazed by the passion you have.

I can't say anything at all, because you said "We're supposed to love these character for who they ARE, not what they're made of."

Boy... you taught me something very valuable today.

    Thanks a lot, sir Bobzeaux!

I better move to IRON MAN now.

  • Yes, DO move on to Iron Man! That movie is everything that the Transformers movie SHOULD have been; respectful to everything before it to keep the fans happy but still appealing to new audiences, updated enough to not be a silly literal translation from comic to screen, and above all, keeping the focus on the CHARACTERS, not the action. A brilliant piece of filmmaking, Iron Man. :)

  • It's not like they were tunning around on cybertron with truck headlight tits, man.
