  • 0:00 hehehehehhahahehhehahehahe

  • the laugh always catches me off guard...

  • :) ... brings so much memeries and a tear to my eye

  • I loved this part! ^__^

  • this has me thinking "so what have you done with your life lately?"

  • 大龍貓!!

  • This makes me wanna become a volinist!!

  • I wouldnt be surprised if the violinist pulled out a gun!

  • 就這樣簡單的旋律, 以經溶化了我的心, 他的音樂真牛

    早就覺得他不是地球人了

  • The violin part is is so sexy. :D

  • Hey does ANYONE know where i can get the sheet music for the violin part i really love it!!! XD

  • epic violinist in fedora

    OMG!!

  • So lovely :) What makes music sound so Japanese? It certainly is unique and special in the world! Hisaishi, Kawai, Sakamoto! Please suggest more. Arigato.

  • una de mis canciones favoritas y la pelicula ni se diga una obra maestra

  • viola or violin? it's sound too deep to be violin...

  • @lieshbird1994 I was thinking the same thing. My bet is on a viola. anyone know?

  • @theMrJMC - i thought it was a viola at first because of how deep and rich the sound was in comparison to the violin but the last note threw me off (it's sad that i play the violin and i can barely tell) because i'm pretty sure you can only hit that last note on the viola if you tune it differently/manually. i'm pretty sure it's a violin (pretty sure.. hehe), and the notes sound a lot more rich because the soloist is playing in position most of the time.

  • @theMrJMC It's a violin, it sounds low cause he's playing in 5th/6th position on the g-string alot of the time. besides, that slightly fatter vibrato is typically used to give the violin a rounder and fuller sound, much like a viola. if you want another really sublime example, try listening to alexander rybak play "song from a secret garden", it's a beautiful mellow piece played in a similar tone to this one :)

  • My boyfriend and i were really sad today, because we missed each other and we are away from each other. I started crying on skype, and he sent me this song, i felt i missed him more and more each moment i hear this song. Never knew that he appreciated music, and thanks to him, i got to know about joe hisaishi. Such a talented man. I am touched by his music, and i really cannot stop listening to it.

  • @huiyingmoon

Yes it's beautiful, but pleeeeeeaaaaaase don't make it sound cheesy !!

  • Brings back the memory of watching totoro in threater. I remember because kids under 4 gets free admission, therefore, there were tons of kids sitting on the stairway while our parents sits comfortably in their seats.

  • :') I can remember watching Totoro when I was 2 or 3

this brings back so many memories...

  • ahhhhh!~ I want to be the vibrations in that violin..! Oh the places I would fly to...! o.x

  • question is: viola or violin?

  • ahhh!!! :D

  • his every track is amazing.... <333333

  • Do you know when and where he performed this? I would love to buy a CD of his live music or a DVD of his concert.

  • @Kashoma just buy the Ghibli DVDs, they have all of the soundtracks in them and you get to watch some of the best films ever by Hayao Miyazaki , trust me these films are amazing, with a combination of an amazing film director and an amazing music composer, nothing is better

  • @GimmeFoodYabitch Do they have the instrumental version on them? I have the normal version from the film. I bought it of iTunes, but I found no other version on there.

  • @Kashoma yeah i suppose the live version played by Joe himself is alot better but i just don't think you can get hold of it, really wish there there was a way though :/

  • @GimmeFoodYabitch Bummer, thanks anyhow.

  • @Kashoma When Donari-no-Totoro came out it was a mega hit and there were several soundtrack audio CDs marketed, but you will not find any being nowadays and the CDs are collectors items worth at least 4x the orginal price. I was one of the lucky few because a cousin of mine bought some in Japan and gave them to me as a brithday present. I'm taking them with me to my grave ;-)

  • @jtschau Damn I am so jealous.

  • Hahahahahaha, the laughing at the beginning scared the crap out of me. x)

  • this is how epic joe hisaishi is. Even his laugh is epic

  • The violin.. is a bliss... The piano is, too but the violin left a much greater impression on me.

  • I want this as a music box, so I can fall asleep to it every night.

  • @CrystalChord2010 Yeah I would want it as a music box too...but if they keep the laughing in, I'll keep waking up. LOL

  • I want to play as good as that violinist.

Its beautiful as water flowing down a creek

  • brilliant !

  • He's a God!!

  • ah! that violin :D

  • i dont understand why i can't stop shedding tears. too beautiful for words.

  • Choice: Become a multi-millionaire and be famous or being in Joe Hisaishi's shoes for a day (thinks for about a millisecond) Joe Hisaishi's shoes

  • JOE HISAISHI IS AWESOME

    IL ETAIT FANTASTIQUE

    沒有比校!

    es impressionante!

who has the piano cover sheet music?! pls pls pls pls pls pls!!!

  • One of the most beautiful compositions I've ever heard - I could listen to this for hours.

  • Incredibly beautiful, but I believe it would sound 10x better if it were a cello and piano duet instead. :)

  • yea the laughing at the very beginning scared me for a sec XD

  • this is SO beautiful!!!!!!! love it <3

  • ahhh!! so beautiful!! omg!! i seriously want a music sheet for this one!! (violin)

  • Les 14 qui n'aiment pas doivent être sourd

  • @hamsterdj78 Non, j'habite en Basse Normandie ^^'

  • I can't even begin to explain how Hisaishi's music makes me feel.

  • im sure he will make a great piano player one day - with a little more praptice

  • joe hisaishi is a genius

  • I am sitting in front of the computer watching youtube videos about Joe Hisaishi sama right now

and suddenly I remember that and he is having a concert at the same time in HK (where I am...)

Damn! I wish I were there! Why don't they sell more tickets?! :(

  • @Jceoleung SAME UGH IM FROM HK TOO. The tickets were sold out on the FIRST DAY (Oct 1) i was so bummed out.........

  • @youjeanzord

I was queuing in that early morning,

and the first one who queued who bought 4 tickets then we were notified that all the tickets were sold out X(

Then I heard later on that 60%of the tickets were for internal sale only....

Thanks to this, I believe those who really love Joe Hisaishi have no chance to see such wonderful performance or we gotta pay much more.....shame on them

  • Those first three seconds startled me when I had my volume up at like 70%

  • which concert/dvd is this from?

  • @Mikey4life I think it's the PIANO STORIES’99 concert, can't find DVD though, pretty sad

    PIANO STORIES’99

    Ensemble Night with Balanescu Quartet

  • lol at the first like 3 seconds of the video xD

  • this dude and yuki kajura should get together and compose some music. i bet whatever they make will be awesome!!! XD

  • This song is beautiful. I have never heard anything so touching like this.

  • He has to come to the U.S!

  • Wow, that is beautiful.

  • omg i love this song! i've always loved it!

Hisaishi Joe is amazing! his music is so touching.

it goes right trough your heart! <3

  • did the laughing at the beginning freak anyone else out? o.O

  • @theorangeeggplant yeep. Always does.

  • @theorangeeggplant

    Totally caught me off guard!

  • @theorangeeggplant

I'm glad he's a very happy man inside. This is the only way he's able to delve into the mind of a child this brilliantly...the world of dreams, imagination

  • @theorangeeggplant Absolutely :D but it was certainly good to see him smile!!

  • @theorangeeggplant Yes, oh my god, I was ready to hear perdy music and then "HAHAHA!" Not that his laugh is bad, but xD

  • @theorangeeggplant big time

  • @theorangeeggplant yes. especially since the volume on my headphones was turned ALL THE GODDAMN WAY UP in anticipation of some fine Hisaishi lovin'

  • I want him, here in italy !!!! OMG !!!!!

  • Joe Hisaishi has always been a legend :)

  • @lavenderlufer will always be the mozart from then now and japan

  • awesome

  • I love what the Violin player is wearing

  • he's a living legend

  • Everytime i play it back to the begining when he's laughing i can't help but myself! =D

  • beautiful!

  • Has anyone already transcriped this version, cand find it so far?

.... gotta do myselft? ok i right start :)

  • @Menrathorgan i've just transcribed the violin part (fresh from the oven :D)

  • reminds me of when i found a wounded fox on the road.

i took the fox home and nurtured it with dog food.

after three days, the fox had recovered and i set it free.

    i miss that fox.

  • What would a Miyazaki movie be without Hisaishi? The beginning is so delicate such a beautiful duet.

  • is that a violist or a violinist??? does anybody know?

  • @herrokate I believe he's playing a violin since violas can't go that high...

  • @YukixHeart you can always shift on a viola

  • @TheEarthbenderToph I believe it's a violin rather than a viola, the lowest note is Bb below middle C, the highest note G6 is 2.5 octaves above middle C...

  • @herrokate its a violin

  • ¿¡Por qué no hay uno de "Me encanta" en vez de "Me gusta"!?

  • fourteen people have missed the "like" button.

  • Here's another version which I prefer:

    watch?v=zlrwJjnkpSw&feature=related

  • On the contrary, I like the deep mellow voice of the violin; it gives off a tone that I recognize in ancient Asian instruments like Ajeang and etc. It also fits the mood of the music. The scratchiness comes from the quality of the video I believe as the high notes on the piano sound quite harsh, too.

  • OK Im going to go watch Totoro now :D

  • Truth be told, this violinist could've lightened up his bow a little so that it wouldn't sound so squeaky and "greasy." Honestly it kinda made my feel uncomfortable. This song is beautiful and the violinist didn't really do it justice. But still, it was amazing.

  • @HonNhi The violinist gor replace...fufufu

  • @HonNhi

Well, I really thought the sound gave it a bit of soul.

    I didn't really notice..hm.

  • that guy with the hat looks cool

  • Same

  • i could listen to this for hours over and over again

it makes me remember memories sooo well

    beautiful song

  • When I'm feeling heartbroken I listen to Joe and cry it out. He feels like a father to me through his music . . . it comforts me.

  • Totoro is a Chuck Norris to me :D

  • te llega al corazon!

  • umm...violinist slightly out of tune? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • wow~ when he started playing the piano, i could actually vizualize totoro running thru the tunnel...O.o

  • Gorgeous composition, as always with Hisaishi-san. It's a real shame the violinist did not do this piece justice. The guy can't even play in tune. He plays with no feeling, just saws away at his instrument. I wish Hisaishi-san could have found a better violinist to play this stunning piece of music.

  • wait. I know this is my 2nd comment, but why was the violin slighly OUT OF TUNE AT THE END?? My ears are begining to ache.

  • I was like HUH?? Then suddenly I heard the piano. Then I Lol-ed

  • i hate thhe violinist.can he take off his hat?and he keep showing off how special and how unique he is.then his intonation .....

  • This piece really gave me peace....

  • Thank u i needed tat for a music project of mine...!!!!!!!!!! (justgettingolder)

  • just asking who the guy wearing the black suit tats playing on a violin....!!!!! must know his name!!!!

  • @shippou32866

    Alexander Balanescu

  • wow.

  • This is good lol

  • The little piano intro thingy gives me an image of Totoro tip toeing around collecting those seeds and nuts...lol

  • This song is like that "imaginary" tone that resides in dreams. It's so solemn, yet happy. It has that amazing feeling that makes you know exactly how to look straight. And, like great dreams, no matter how much time passes you never forget it.

  • @fiyrdragon5 : agreed totally.

  • hhaahhahah *PAUSE* song starts playing =.=

  • lol i wasent expecting the laughing part =.=

  • this is nice but i would prefer the cello version more

  • @jacksona333 you are so right. This version with violin is a bit too "greasy" - its kind of disgusting. A cello or an erhu would be better...

  • Joe Hisaishi+ Hayao Miyazaki= Greatest damn thing to happen to the world.

  • @HappyApe Agreed.

  • @HappyApe I agree entirely

  • @HappyApe I agree with you, but Nobuo Uematsu could shoud be a great choice too!

Nobuo and Joe are my favourite compositors!

  • I vote for Jesus saving the world on the cross as the greatest thing to happen to world.

Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi is pretty up there though. Two of my favorite artists for sure!

  • @Touchdown32 Amen.

  • @PseudoChat I believe he orchestrates everything himself :)

  • Beautiful...

  • this would perfect for a romantic sunrise, as corny as that may sound

  • it sounds like something

  • holther, espero k te guste... al oir el violin piensa en mi. ;)

  • what's with the begining??? other than that, it was briliant, unlike my spelling
