I can do anything about scratching but I got a problem with the transformer and crab. I practice this everyday and its like never going to happen. I'm really down right now. You're a girl and you can do 1000x better than me.
Im more then a beginer...more of an amature, but for some reason this is the hardest stactch for me to pull off. Even though it seems simple enough, when I watch you, its like you get the fader to spring back. I can do that, I have rather large hands and cant figure out how to snap the fader back, so I just end up grabing it with my thumb and pointer finger and sliding it back and forth as quick as I can. It sounds like ass. Any tips on how to get it to spring back as you you do?? thank you
@DruSk33t hey its really just practice. try the movements slowly.i make my fingers push constantly against the fader to close it again. the thumb kinda taps the fader in but the fingers push it closed again after. experiment a bit - i am sure you will get it!
@studioscratches ok thanks for the reply, yes I do have an innofader in mine. I would like replace my DJM909 fader with the pro x fader, I just haven't tried one. Leaning toward innofader though.
U show it rite but u say it wrong. transformers is about timing. that is what you cant learn form youtube. Learn how 2 count. make you transformer constant 4/4 or 4/2. and listen to yourself. record your scratches. goodluck whit that peace
Is it true that the early transformers used to pull their phono leads out the back of their mixers and then tap them with a finger to get that on/off cut sound?
Thank you studioscratches for anwers my question!! i have a stanton mixer, and stanton tables, im doing everything you said in the video, (or at least i think im) and i dont hear any difrerences on my scratch. what do i have to do to curve adjustment my cross fader. thank you so much again for helping me, and ill be waiting for your anwers!!!
@myluisino hello! the crossfader curve adjustment needs to be set so that the fader has a very sharp / fast cut in - so as soon as you move the fader it turns the sound on. For more help please take a look at the studio scratches members site on the website.
@myluisino its better to have a mixer with a good cross fader for scratching. e.g. something by vestal or rane. The cross fader needs a curve adjustment so you can get a sharp cut in.
Back in the day everybody used a record by DJ Juanito. It had all the standard cuts for scratching. The way the cuts where arranged on it made it the shiatsu. You can pretty much go from one sample to the next never lifting the needle. If you see one, even used... I'd grab it!.
Mine got "Cracker Jacked" meaning it got "Jacked by a Crackhead".

i was kinda iffy on getting a dedicated scratch deck (i already have a mixing controller for software) but this video convinced me to get one. THANK YOU!!
Theres'a an important thing about transformers that helps getting it right. Try to eliminate the ghost clicks completely, just like you would when you chirp. That way your transformers will sound much cleaner and you'll also learn scratches like swing flares more easily later on.
i think somebody should do vids applying scratch techniques to actual dj's sets. otherwise it's kinda abstract. if i didn't suck at cutting i guess i'd post one myself..
@bobbyho0064 its just like skateboarding regular or goofy i guess. Flares are easier hamster I think. Regular is easier for transforming in my opinion.
@bobbyho0064 the reason it started was because back in the day, some mixers didn't have crossfaders, so people would scratch on the up faders.. so when they came to a crossfader the motions were the opposite way round... so some creative person (one of the invisible scratch piklz crew i think) wired up the decks to the opposite inputs, giving them what they called 'Hamster style' this way it was like the up fader in its direction. then technics made a switch after it caught on...
@jimmyrich1 Great info. It was dj quest from the bullet proof scratch hamsters who coined that term. Quest said it was a mistake. Love that mistake! Qbert made it suer famous.
Hey im basically a beginner im up to transforming now just practicing amap.. I find im stuck running the same patterns over because they were the natural ones I learned and am finding it difficult to come with new ones when im freestyling.. Whats the best way to learn new patterns? cheers and great vids!
Hey, theres a few things you can do, listen to other scratchers freestyling. Or copy drummers patterns. Listen to music that inspires you. Don't be concerned about the sound you are making, just be free to experiment.
you could also try replicating short-e's Q&A section at the end of this vid. what she does, repeat back. it will open your mind up to new patterns, and you can do it with any video you come across.
What sample vinyl do you use?

Do you have an Innofader on this mixer or is that a standard one?? The Nob is different from the upfaders, thats why I asked!

@kizo12 it is a pro x fader in that mixer. i changed it. You could also use an innofader in that mixer too.

@trooperJac No they used to use the phono line switch instead of the crosffader. Because the cut in on the faders back in the day were shit.

Is the right table playing the background?
And why is the left open when u move to the right?????!

@ArchetypeDubstep beat is playing from an internal source (serato). the fader is reversed / hamster - it feels better to me!

so, how are the flare and transformer different? seems to me the flare is just a transformer with two clicks. no?

@skyvanburen hey , the difference is that transformers start with the fader closed. Flare starts with the fader open and one click makes 2 sounds.
