Maslenitsa is a ancient pagan celebration for the glory of Slavonic Gods, but changed by Christians for the glory of Christ. Has plenty customs, songs, games, dances and plenty special food.
@Ejeska Great tradition. I am happy you still preserve it! In Slovenia we have also "pagan" remains - we are chasing away the winter in February with Korants or Kurents - (probably comes from "kurit" - "to burn" - probably related with Ogenj (Aganj in Russian) - "fire" (Sanskrit's Agni), as mythological figures - demons, half gods that are calling the spring and chasing away the evil spirits and are bringer of fertility
@VendPrekmurec it comes from the word 'maslo' which means 'butter'. The thing is that this Maslenitsa is followed by the Lent (it lasts for 40 days) so Maslenitsa week is the last time till Easter when you can eat butter, milk and fish.
@dissolveANDcollapse Thanks. We say maslo also. This is another proof that Jews adopted in fact many original, native Slavonic "pagan" traditions, nothing strange their 1. Torah was written in 11th century AD (Leningrad Codex) in Byzantium (with help of Greeks, who were always in wars with old Slavs). Old Slavs knew Vedas ("knowledge") before Torah, Bible and Kuran
Гениальный фильм , так по русски !!!!
