That's not asking for too much of the player, because you aren't asking the player to do anything at all. If you can't see anything, then how do you respond. Video games are naturally a call and response style visual medium.
If there had been coins up in that portion of the screen, THEN that might make sense, but otherwise it is a really, really obscure secret.
@AGrayPhantom I disagree. What I see here is a well-timed cut and pure chance that it is at that point of the screen that he would bounce off, if any at all. I mean, we're speaking purely in hypotheticals here because this video itself is fake. If he had bounced off the other side when he recorded this, nothing would be different. Same as for if he didn't bounce off any side of the screen at all, the video would be nearly identical...

@Ludicrine This is a Super Mario World ROM Hack named Mario Gives Up. raocow made an LP of that game, but he never beat the key boss; since then a lot of people have been bugging him to do so. This is a reference to that.
