It is really terrible of what the Cold War did to Europe. Because the United States and the Soviet Union had problems, they split Europe into two..\ A city was divided in half because of two superpowers that were thousands of miles apart!

@traindude80 Yes. But grow up, I mean the Soviet Union was hell on Earth. The US just did its duty in aiding the halt of that empire. If you read Wikipedia, they say that the GDP in the Soviet Union 1989 was about half of the GDP of USA but that's BS. I have russian friends who are 40-45 years old and they said they don't remember ever having toilet paper during Soviet times. Soviet Union = total shit.

@MikaM75 People below the poverty level in the USSR in 1989 was 0.2 % of the population. People had homes, people had jobs, people had education. Even though the USSR turned to a dictatorship when Stalin defeated Trotsky in 1927, some part of the basic communist ideology remained however, which meant that people were guaranteed their basic needs by the government. In the US if you don't have money: GO FUCK YOURSELF. Sad but true.

I had spoken to my boss today, and he told me that he was actually stationed at one of the break points. He commented that it was one hell of a site to see. Some Germans, and even Americans were all there hammering and hacking away at peices of the wall trying to get it to come down faster. I consider myself lucky enough to be alive to watch it on TV.
