Playing with the color tone is a great idea!! And yes your voice is too soft for the lyric so it's better you just rap it this way. It really makes the lyric stronger. Now for technical editing, I would prefer the "playing guitar" you keep your mouth shut through the whole song, and adding another layer of a closed-up face straight "singing" you on the right-hand side only when lyric comes in. Add in a little emotional "performance" could make this even better. ;) Keep on your good job!
